I say dont even bother with them unless you want to waste your time with having to respond to lengthy email questions that you have to answer anyway in the interview with them. Then the end of the interview telling me my expierence isnt recent enough! They knew the dates. Frustrating and a HUGE waste of time.

I absolutely love this company! Not only am I lucky enough to have a job through them, but I now use A-​Star to help me find the most amazing individuals to be a part of my team. I have worked with Diana for several years now and have grown to really understand the passion, love, and devotion she has for her work! She is a true gem and so is the rest of her team!

I applied to a job ad from Craigslist and was contacted back by this agency (fall 2013). I was interviewed over the phone and in person very quickly with the agency, and then again with the client company. I was hired right away and started working in a matter of weeks.
They do send emails to check in on you, which is great, makes you feel cared for, but the reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because they really don’t care about you at all.
Three months into my job I contacted them to tell them I was very unhappy and wanted to be placed elsewhere. I sent them weekly emails for about 3 more months asking for a different job and they always replied saying that there was nothing available or anything they could do about it. One morning I woke up and sent them an email saying I was not going to work that day, or ever again, and of course they start calling me and emailing me like crazy asking why… After that, they were very rude over the phone, obviously, they stopped making money off of me.
In case you’re wondering, it was a call center job. Not once did they mention it was a call center, them or the client company, and I was too naïve to ask (lesson learned!).

I like others was surprised this agency has decent reviews. I can’t not recall who I met with, but she made me seem like I was qualified enough for the pay I was asking for. I was laid off in June 2013, but had 3 degrees, 2 being graduate level prior to coming to them. The representative had me make tweaks to my Resume and take an additional set of testing when I got home and she did not not even had the decency to get back to me. I am very disappointed in the way the run business. I did not even take the time to reach out to them because why would I would to put business in their wallets.

I had a great experience with A-​Star. The company the placed me with decided to to hire me on after my 3 months. A-​Star does seem to keep it professional, and friendly. I recall them even asking how my first day went, and if everything was to my expectations.
If you’re looking to get placed, and have the skills they are looking for, A-​Star seems to get you to where you want to be.

I am surprised at the positive reviews for this staffing company. While yes, Diana is quite personable, the staffing company just doesn’t have the corporate connections to place you in any positions besides «puppy mill» positions. Think call centers and low level administrative. It doesn’t matter what your skills are, your industry background is, this is what you will be offered positions and for very low wages. Don’t even think about a self respecting position to be offered. And the most your will be offered is an hourly wage below $ 16/​hr. Amanda did place me and offered me a few options, none worth my time or resume. Once I made it very clear that had monetary expectations and wasn’t just going to settle for anything, Amanda turned into quite a rude character. I chose to go find a real full time job on my own and got the salary I was asking for! It was far more than A-​star offered. I have several other former A-​star placed co-​workers that did the same thing. If you are desperate, without a degree or any experience, A-​star can help you. Otherwise stay clear, you are better off at Robert Half. At least their salespeople lose their jobs if they don’t meet quotas.

Great communication, unlike many other staffing agencies. Friendly service and quick job placement.

Having not only been employed by staffing agencies but worked hand in hand with them at the Dept. of Rehabilitation, I can say first hand, that A-​Star Staffing is one, if not THE BEST staffing agencies in the county of San Diego. They partner with some of the best employers in San Diego, get their client competitive wages, and have an extremely professional and approachable staff who’s number one interest is their client.
I HIGHLY recommend them to all who are looking for a good solid employment. I almost forgot to mention, they pay weekly and offer Direct Deposit.

I have been meaning to write a review on these guys for awhile, and then today I was quickly reminded how much I miss them due to my current sh*tty staffing agency who fogot to pay me for a weeks worth of work!!! (and NO, this wasn’t the first time either) This is THE best staffing agency I’ve ever worked with (I’ve worked with quite a few here in SD). I know I’m not the only one who believes so, because most of the temps here came from A-​Star and also have had nothing but great things to say about them! I found them through Craigslist, emailed them my resume, they called me within a couple days and I went in, went through all the necessary steps, and they found me a job within two weeks (which I currently still at)!!! Not just any job, but a good job with one of the largest medical groups in the US. I’m surprised by all of the negative feedback on here, because I experienced nothing but POSITIVE things from them. Amanda and the rest of her staff were always very helpful and there for me to answer any questions or concerns I had. They are very personable, and they always went above and beyond they’re duties to help me out with certain situations I came across. As long as you do your job and show up for work, they won’t bother you! For the people saying they sent they’re resumes in and never got calls, well it clearly states on they’re craigslist ads and website that IF they are able to find something suitable for you they WILL contact you. Isn’t that is how MOST employers work?! Unfortunately, the contract with the company I’m with ended and I believe A Star decided not to renew with them (reasons unknown), so now I’m stuck with a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE staffing agency that I was transfered to, and I can’t wait to get away from! If I ever find myself unemployed again looking for work, I will definately come back to A-​Star!!! THANK YOU A-​STAR!!!

I have used A-​Star to acquire 8 temporary employees and for all those where positions became available, we made the decision to hire them — they handpick the best! Amanda and Diana are very professional and friendly and work hard to take care of all the details so you don’t have to worry. They listened to my needs and found me who I needed. I’ve been in a few tough spots and called Amanda at 3pm and had someone in my office at 8am the next day.
My interaction with other members of their staff has also been pleasant. The receptionist and payroll staff are also quick at responding to e-​mails, answering questions and very friendly.
It has been a pleasure to get to know them and I will keep their info in my personal contacts so that no matter where I were to go in San Diego, I could call on them to get me the quality people I need. These ladies know what they are doing and it shows. I trust them 100% to follow through and deliver and do what it takes to help me with each any staffing need I might have.

I’ve worked with Amanda and Diana at A-​Star for about 10 years now, across two different employers. Some of the best talent I’ve ever found has come from A-​Star; hard-​working people who have climbed the ranks. Many who were hired at an entry level have now moved on to supervisor, manager, and even senior management. These ladies work hard for me to find a perfect skill and personality match; they don’t just send resumes my way when the skills come close to what I’m looking for. They take the time to interview me and EVERY candidate to see if there is a match. There is so much more to recruiting than doing a word search on a resume.
I must admit, I have strayed a few times. Other staffing agencies would come to me with what appeared to be decent candidates at a lower price than A-​Star. Let me tell you, I’ve regretted it every time. Candidates from other agencies just don’t seem to pass muster in the long run, and when things don’t work out, other agencies aren’t anywhere near as supportive of A-​Star when I find the need for a replacement.
I’d say I have an 80% failure rate with placements from other agencies. With A-​Star, I’d say I have a 90% success rate. Bad candidates just don’t get through A-​Star to me. I don’t spend a lot of time reviewing resumes or interviewing candidates — that’s why I pay them. With A-​Star, I might look at 5 resumes and have 2 or 3 interviews to fill a position. With other agencies, I often wonder what exactly they’re doing for me other than forwarding along resumes.
I can’t believe there are any bad reviews about A-​Star here. In 10 years, I can’t think of a single time I’ve had a bad experience with A-​Star, and I’m not the easiest client in the world to please.
I can’t say enough good things about this agency. I don’t go anywhere else to fill vacancies in my Customer Service Center. Even with a very specific set of requirements to fill my vacancies, A-​Star does it every time.
As an employer, you’d be insane not to give A-​Star an honest chance. As a QUALITY job-​seeker, you are guaranteed to find a long-​term happy placement with A-​Star. If you’re a slacker, don’t bother; you’re not going to get through their screening process to be placed with one of their valued clients. Maybe the bad reviews here came from people in that «slacker» category. Like I said. .. 10+ years and never a bad experience, but then again, I’m no slacker.

this place is not even accredited with the bbb (better business bureau)… and there is only one explanation for that.
they are the worst staffing agency around. if you want to work for a crappy company, then these guys will set you up.

Honestly, I am shocked at the reviews for A-​Star Staffing. Shocked.
Two months ago, my fiancé and I submitted resumes and cover letters through the website’s suggested email address. We assumed it would take around 24 – 72 hours for a response, but after a week, I emailed again to make sure our resumes were received, and followed up with a phone call, just in case.
The woman who answered the phone, although polite, was completely unhelpful. She couldn’t find our resumes, and suggested we re-​send them. I asked if there was a way we could bring them to her in-​person, as we live in Hillcrest and their office is apparently just down the road in Mission Valley. Alas no, we would have to re-​send them, and we were assured that a confirmation email would be sent.
So, I played along. I re-​sent mine and The Boy re-​sent his. Four days later, still nothing. We decided to try and stop in, to be proactive and talk to someone in-​person. Unfortunately, navigating the endless office suites along Camino del Rio South is a tricky endeavor, so The Boy called the office to ask for specific directions.
Another woman, possibly the same as before, informed us that we would not be permitted to walk in without an appointment. The Boy tried to make an appointment, and was told that he should send in his resume via email before attempting to do so.
Ignoring my overwhelming sense of déjà vu, which was now giving way to an extreme sense of frustration, we turned around, went home, and I called A-​Star myself. This time, I informed the person on the phone of our situation, the fact that we had sent our resumes in *twice* and had now called *three times* to try and set something up, and I was promptly put on hold for seven minutes. I counted. Seven. Minutes. When someone finally came back on the line, I was asked a series of questions and told that I would be receiving a call «soon.»
You can probably assume how often I’ve heard from them, but just in case you’re unsure, the answer is «never.» I called back three weeks after speaking to someone, and I was told to – you guessed it – send in my resume, again, and make an appointment.
Look, I want to support a woman-​owned business, and I want to support a local business, but this was an exercise in futility and a prime example of how NOT to treat a potential client. I gave up. I went elsewhere.

As far as a staffing agency goes, A-​Star is by far the superior staffing company of San Diego. Not only are they incredibly helpful and prompt at placing you, they also add the personal touch in checking in with you from time to time once you have been placed to ensure that you are happy with your position.
I have been helped by both Emily and Amanda and they are both wonderful!
I can say hands down that they are the superior staffing agency, because I have dealt with many others in San Diego, all without any luck. You go in, waste your time taking all of the redundant and mundane tests and then get a promise to hear back from them and then are never contacted again. This will never be the case with A-​Star. You actually deal with people not computers.
If you are in need of a job, do yourself a favor and make this the first, last and only stop on your journey to employment!!!

It’s Unilocal,and writing about staffing agencies is hardly as exciting as reviewing a rockin’ new bar or a food joint. But let’s face it, without a job, you can’t afford to go to those places, anyway. See? Suddenly a staffing agency review is hip and cool, right?
A-​Star is a local San Diego business. That means a lot to me. They are also woman-​owned, which is really just an interesting factoid. Mostly, though, they are committed to getting people working. They treat potential employees with respect, work hard to find the right position for you, and are passionate about taking care of people. Ok, maybe that is the woman-​owned business influence. Still, it makes a difference.
Thank you, Diana Barnes and team. You can’t work miracles, I know, but you sure seem to make ‘em happen, anyway.

I tried a few staffing agencies and A star had the nicest and most professional staff compared to the others. Probably because the place is run by all women :) They really tried to help you find jobs that you would like and didn’t push the junk jobs I did not want. If I had to use a staffing agency again I would definitely go back to them.

I’ve been to several staffing agencies, and A Star really has the «WOW» factor– they’re professional, personable and really went the extra mile following up on employment opportunities for me. Less than a month after walking into their office, I landed a great job. If you’re interested in working in an office environment, this is the place to go– Andrea is the best! :D
