Established in 1914.
San Diego Shade has been helping San Diego home owners and businesses alike improve their quality of life for over 99 years. In 1914, the year the Panama-California Exposition debuted at Balboa Park, John Alexander purchased the entire stock of window shade materials and related equipment from Holzwasser’s Department Store in downtown San Diego for the sum of $ 82, and opened San Diego’s first exclusive window covering company, the San Diego Window Shade Company. All these years later, the tradition of providing great value and service continues.

A San Diego resident for the last 20 years, Bill honed his customer service skills early on in the restaurant business, where he managed various family-style restaurants for a living before jumping into the corporate world. After more than 25 years working for large companies, like Qualcomm, SAIC and Hughes, Bill decided to venture into the world of small business. San Diego Shade had a great reputation of providing value and service along with the opportunity to update the business for the 21st century. 100 years old and going strong — that’s a testament for any business.
