San Diego Public Library – Clairemont Branch Library

This library is rather small, however, costumer service had passed for pleasing in the past. I’ve been coming to this library for a few years now and costumer service has been slowing declining from pleasant to just plain rude. The Manager at this branch needs some serious training in communication. I’d say only two employees are helpful and don’t make you feel like you’re under a microscope. The manager here kept walking around telling people to be quite even at those using a whisper to communicate with children or other adults. This same day, I happen to answer my phone and was consciously aware of my voice level, as to not be loud or disturb anyone. By the time of said call, the library was empty, except for one other person on a computer (I hope he wasn’t typing too loud…) Then the manager has the nerve literally 5 seconds into the call to tell me to «step out side, please». I was a little taken back by the request and stared blankly at him for a second, and he then continued with «are you talking or listening to voicemail?» This leads me to believe that he wasn’t bothered by my «voice» level but the fact that I had my phone to my ear… If you can’t hear the persons voice and obviously are not bothering anyone, what the heck is the problem??? Seriously a power control freak. I would have been just fine if he had approached it differently and if I was actually being loud. But honestly the employees at this branch are all going down the same path, they are definitely not as friendly as before. Could be this manager is setting the tone for everyone. Too bad.

I’m a little biased in this review since this was my childhood library in the 1980s & 90s. I have fond memories of my weekly trips on Wednesdays to check out the maximum number of books. I remember begging my mom to take me on Monday since I had finished all of my books, but she was tough & stuck to her word. Just once a week!
Currently this branch library is doing pretty well. There are plenty of times when the parking lot gets FULL… I really love that their online reservations are kept out on the floor instead of behind the desk like other branches. I figure it’s easier for me to find my name & item since I know what I’m looking for!
They have LOTS of used books for sale for $ 1 and some of them are even 5 for $ 1. It’s amazing to me that so many newer books were for sale and that’s due to all of the awesome donations from patrons.

Love this place for the Story time! I have to say this is the coolest place to walk to with my kid. We love the clean and friendly staff. Enjoy the time here with cool wi-​fi

Basic neighborhood library.

I’m sooo glad that the the Clairemont Library [
still stands in the neighborhood, despite citywide budget cuts that have reduced library operating hours. Through the support of caring individuals and community involvement, the library can provide fun *free* family events to raise awareness (as well as funds) from book sales to be fiscally prudent. Dolla dolla bills, y’all.
Saturday was an open house and book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Clairemont Library. Refreshments were donated by Keil’s, TK Donuts, Starbucks, and Friends [

. There was also live music playing on the lawn and an inflatable bounce house for kids to jump around [
. I didn’t partake in any snacks and had to reconsider the bouncy action since it was brimming with joyful toddlers. That was a neat little brunchtime diversion in between errands.
I fully support what the Clairemont Library is doing for its patrons and if you’re part of the neighborhood and haven’t stopped by in a while, then you should reintroduce yourself sometime, especially if you have younger ones:
Tue 6:30pm-8pm: Homework Help (Grades K-​12)
Wed 6pm-​7pm: Story & Craft Time (Children all ages)
Thu 10:30am-11:00am: Storytime with sign language (Children 0 – 2)
Thu 4pm-​5pm: Game Day (Board games, Children 3 and up)
Fri 10:30am-11:30am: Preschool Storytime (Children 3 – 5)
Through continued support of childhood literacy and education, the Clairemont Library and other the active branches can help our future Unilocal writers post some killer FUC-​able reviews. I’ll post this now before I start ranting on about grown ass adults writing Unilocal reviews at a K-​6 grade level.

The Library itself is fine. It’s a small, neighborhood branch. They have kewl childrens groups for reading-​time which is wonderful.
My review is more about the public access for internet. I have been there at least 30 times for my children to find books and they usually find something they want to check out. (4^th grade and 6^th grade level).
I have also been there about 15 times to use the internet access. The basic rules apply with all of the libraries but the general public at this library seems to ignore people waiting for the time limits to expire and re-​log-​on, or use the 15-​minute computer while waiting for the 60 minute computers and then just bump the waiting people outa line.
I have tried 2 times to get the staff to inforce the internet time usage but they really don’t want to get involved. I don’t blame them. It’s a smelly, aggressive, bully-​ing group that use the computers there.
Yuk. The place smells when you go in. Salt of the earth needs a bath. And some lessons in courtesy and sense of entitlement.
I have found the people at the library across from the new Albertsons a lot more respectful, still a bit smelly, but they follow the rules.
