If you are a do it yourself type of person this is a great place for you. They have a lot of unique items. Lighting, paint, paintings, area rugs, bathroom and kitchen counters along with knobs for dressers and handles for doors. My last purchase was a ten gallon Emerald green paint for my outdoor fence. It was only $ 10.00. If you have never been here you should come check it out. Parking is a bit crazy and might be a challenge driving up to the parking lot if it is busy. Just keep your eyes open

If you like to offer your time and skills to help others, Habitat for Humanity is a very good organization that help build the dream houses for many who could not afford unless they had volunteers that will make the costs of a house really affordable. I got to know them through a volunteer campaign at my work place and was very excited not only about the possibility of helping others, but learning new skills on the process. So we went a extensive group of colleagues and in our case we were all taught how to put windows(so now I consider myself a windows expert!). We were all working in a couple of houses in Imperial Beach, so I got as well more acquainted with an area that I don’t frequent very often. Lunch and drinks were provided by the organization and our company and we all had a good time and the satisfaction of doing something really for… humanity. I will volunteer for them again in the future.

Civics and economics. At my son’s school a big part of passing that class is to reach out to an organization that they have never volunteered for, volunteer 10 hours and write a report about the organization and their experiences. After a few weeks of research he selected Habitat for Humanity. We went to the pre-volunteer orientation and got to hear about the history of the organization and the people that work there. The best part was seeing a young family with two young toddlers and one on the way speak about their new home they were moving into and how grateful they were for the chance to have a home. My son worked in the re-store store and at a site in Carlsbad where he got to haul stuff, climb on a roof and help where needed. In both locations the people he worked with were kind, encouraging and appreciative that he was there to lend a hand. We are looking forward to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity again in the future.
