How can a community college district located on the coast of California with two major bays not offer any course for sailors, mariners and fisherman? I have to drive an hour and a half to Orange Coast College in Newport Beach to take classes that should be available in San Diego County. They might think about forming a partnership with the folks over at Fiddler’s Cove on the Strand or at the MCRD. Both offer non-​accredited courses which are of no use for someone pursuing a nautical career.

San Diego Community College District (San Diego City College and Mesa College) will invariably schedule classes you need for a certificate of performance or a degree in such a way that they conflict, or at different campuses on the same day with half an hour so that you cannot commute from one class to another. They do this even though those classes are taught by the same department. It will take you years to get to employment in the field you want to work in.

My review is intended for those who are Veterans considering this school for your benefits. I attended the Business Information Technology course at the Educational Cultural Complex on Oceanview Blvd. I found the class to be below standards. I was placed in front of a computer with no lectures. There was no course outline or syllabus, or instruction of any kind. The San Diego Community College District reported to the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Labor that the course could be completed in 414 clock hours. The SDCCD website states that it takes 514 hours. The admissions staff at ECC stated to me that it takes 600+ hours. So, your Veteran’s benefits will run out before you get your certificate… period! Since the classes have no Course outline or Syllabus, finishing the course is contingent on your relationship with the instructor (s). I was never given a indication of what was next in the course and I was only instructed on how to pass the online tests that were so subjective that you could pass or fail by as much as a random keystroke. Until the SDCCD gets its act together, avoid this course if you are a veteran!

One of the most awesome community colleges in America. From the absolute best city in America. This is where the transcript office is located at. Walk up the stairs from the parking lot and follow the sign.
Best Direction: from North, best way is to take the 15 south freeway, exit onto the 8 west ramp, stay to the left and exit camino del rio south. Turn right at the T-​intersections, go a quarter of a mile, it should be on your left. If you hit qualcomm way, you went too far west.
