Rosas Tailoring Shop

I have been going to Rosa for 6 years now, and I will follow her wherever she goes. She has worked out of a couple different locations and is now working out of her home. Her work space at home is clean and professional. She always does a great job with anything I bring to her and she is always on time. Rosa is super sweet and makes you feel like family. Don’t be scared away by the fact that she works from home. You will not be disappointed!

I absolutely LOVE Rosa! I started going to see her for my tailoring needs when she had a little shop in North Park. I was devastated when I saw her shop close, so I called her up and she said she’s still taking customers. THANK GOODNESS! She works out of her home, but it’s a proper business, with a work table, work bench, spools of thread all along the walls, and all the trimmings befitting a proper business. And the best part? Because she’s working out of her home now, she can accommodate business pretty much anytime! (Well, any reasonable time, of course.) I’ve always been really, really pleased with the work Rosa does. And I’ve handed her some doozies! For instance, the shorts part of my very, very FAVORITE skort (shorts with a skirt on top) got caught on the central agitator of my washing machine, which totally tore a huge «V» on the underside of the garment. Rosa handled what I thought was a total disaster with and gave them back to me as if they had never been attacked by that devilish machine. I got some amazing t-​shirts at Comic-​Con that just didn’t look right on me because the collar/​neck opening was too high up. I was really sad — I wanted to wear them out in the world. So I brought them to Rosa. She consulted with me on which of the t-​shirts would look good with a V-​neck opening and which would look good with a boatneck collar, and when I got them back they were ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! She works on my professional clothes, too. I’m fairly short (5’5″) and manage to find work slacks that look good on me except for the fact that I need to be 6’2″ in order for them to fit right. So I take all my hemming work to her. And, on the rare occasion that I can buy something «off the rack,» the hem will inevitably loosen. She fixes that for me, too. She’s just wonderful. Seriously, spend about 5 minutes on the phone with her and she’ll put you totally at ease and give you the confidence to know that she can help you with what you need. She’s kind and sweet and just a lovely person to be around. I can’t say enough good things about her and the work she does. Please go see her! I really want to see her business thrive. :)

I recommend this tailor shop because it gives high quality work for an inexpensive price. The owner Rosa has amazing costumer services and the work done fast. I absolutely loved the dress she fixed for me, it came out perfect. This will be definitely from now on be my go to tailor shop

Rosa is a very sweet lady, I love her work a gave her a couple of dresses and she had them done within days. Im definitely going back!!!

I must say that Rosa is a life-​saver! I needed my patch sewn onto my blues and I couldn’t find anyone else to take me on a Sunday. My husband found Rosa’s shop on Google and we decided to give her a call. She took me in right away and I had my uniform back within the half hour. Rosa is very friendly and has very prompt service. I will be going back, especially with a tailoring emergency!

Rosa is so sweet and just a pleasure to bring things to. She is a local specialist in working with leather (I found this out when I asked a tailor if he could alter some leather gloves, and he directed me to a shoe repair shop because they have experience with leather. however, they did not have the right machine to do fine detail work with leather, so they sent me to Rosa, who does have the machine). She had just moved her shop to the Wabash Ave locale, and it’s kind of a mess inside but in sort of a comfortable way :) doesn’t make sense, i know, but I just like how casual and «mom and pop» her shop feels.
Anyway, she finished the gloves and even called me when I didn’t make it in on the day we had agreed they would be done– she said she could bring them to the neighborhood where I live because she was coming that way! I was so surprised by the offer, but I said don’t worry, I’ll come on another day.
I was very happy with the alteration of my gloves– it was a bit more expensive than we had agreed on, but she had to hand-​stitch part of it. everything was perfect, and she had taken great care with the measurements so that they would be right.
I would recommend her, especially for leather products– if you are worried about a special piece of clothing, just take the extra time for her to measure and make sure she knows what you want. She is absolutely willing to take the time to help you get it right.

My wife and I brought her wedding dress to Rosa to get altered. Rosa is so friendly and kind, we just love her. This was my first time visiting a tailor and our first time trying to get a wedding dress altered. It may have been our lack of experience in this type of situation or simply miscommunication, but it took several visits to get the dress altered to a point where we were reasonably happy. The first time we told her how many inches we wanted off the bottom, and how we wanted the tail to be short enough so that it isn’t dragging. When we came back, it didn’t appear as if it was done the way we wanted it. We were scared to confront her on this because she is such a sweet person, but later, when at home, we realized this is our wedding dress, and we have to be happy with it. So we brought it back, and asked her to cut the tail as we had described previously. She said this wasn’t what she understood the first time, and that it will cost more. We gave her the extra money and left it with her. The third time we came in was a week or so later and she hadn’t done anything. She seemed scared to cut it as we asked her to, but we reassured her it will be ok because it is how we want it. The last time we got there the front was a bit too short, but we were happy the way the tail was cut. I think it just came down to Rosa being a bit old fashioned (couldn’t imagine cutting a beautiful wedding dress’s long tail off), but my wife is much more practical than traditional, and didn’t want the tail dragging in the dirt and getting all dirty (because she was going to have to wear it several times). In the end, I would still take my normal clothes to Rosa, but I wouldn’t recommend taking a wedding dress there… just too complicated :/

I find that I’m starting to think about the world and my shopping habits differently. When some of the teeth fell out of the zipper on my favorite pair of Levis my immediate reaction was to toss them out and buy a new pair. But then it occurred to me to take them to Rosas and have them fixed. So a few days and $ 12 later I have my jeans back from her with a genuine Levis zipper effectively saving me $ 43 and a little space at the garbage dump. (Though I probably would have sent them to textile recycling…)
I’ve also used her services before and was especially impressed when she shortened a pair of cargo pants that has some particularly fussy sewing at the bottom. She actually recreated the pattern so they didn’t even look like they had been shortened.
She’s also very very pleasant to deal with and I will be using her services and recommending her again.

If you bring clothes here to get altered, don’t expect to get them back in any reasonable amount of time. I brought a few things in to get altered, and when I would return to pick them up on the date I was told, nothing would be ready. This happened several times, combined with showing up several times when the shop was closed during posted business hours, before I realized five months had gone by and she still hadn’t found the time to finish the work. I had been more than understanding as she gave me a sob story every time I came in, but this women is just unprofessional and lazy. I must admit, when she actually does work (which is rare) she does a pretty good job. In the end, I just took my clothes back and finished getting it altered elsewhere.

Reasonable prices –great work. She corrected a bad tailoring job done at another shop and made it look like brand new! Brought in my stuff, my husband’s stuff –she does really good work, on time, and very friendly.

Rosa is a very pleasant lady. I took some pants to get them hemmed, I needed a 2 day service so the price was $ 12. Regular 3 day service is $ 9, in my opinion its a little too much, but, since she’s down the street from where I live, its very convenient. The actual work was ok, I will definitely go back. she was very nice and I like to support our local businesses.

I have been to Rosa’s many times, and she does a fantastic job. Sometimes it takes a little longer, but the price is right and all my jobs have been done great! The shop hours are limited too, a slight downfall, but love her. Very sweet and great service.
