Ralphs

Last night we picked up two bouquets of flowers from Ralph's at Del Mar Heights in San Diego, for $25 and $50. It was around 8 pm and we did not look carefully at the quality of the flowers. When at home, we found that 3 of 3 calla lilies, 3 of 3 big roses, 2 of 3 hydrangeas, and 1 of 3 small rose bunches had already turned brown. The only healthy looking flowers were the cheaper flowers like the mums and carnations. When i bought them back to the store for exchange this morning, they did not have the calla lilies nor the white roses, and the salesperson was trying to make us accept other flowers as exchanges. We refused and were only able to get a refund for $25. So we ended up paying $50 for a half-size bundle of low quality flowers like mums and carnations.

Selling nearly dead flowers is not a good business practice. Refusing to honor their fresh flower guarantee is egregious.

There’s nothing better to say about this location. Everyone is SO helpful and kind. Food is always fresh and stocked. You can tell they have a solid team that’s working so efficiently. One time they didn’t carry an item that I wanted so one of the managers went over to Jimbos to grab it for me for free. We just moved to Torrey hills and will continue to drive over to this location because of the great service.

Lived a block away from this store, I shopped here every week. One night the cashier pulled a 12 pack of beer out of my group of groceries saying «I’m not selling this to you» and proceeded to ring up the other groceries. I shows the manager my id but she said she has to stand behind her employee. The next day I went to talk to the owner but he said there shouldn’t have been a problem. No apology no nothing. Just a cashier being a dick. I haven’t been back since. Bond is around the corner

I am rating the customer service of this Ralph’s. We had an issue with gift cards and the customer service over the phone for the retail store was less than desirable. After 3 weeks and 11 calls, They told me to go back my credit card company and dispute the charges. I decided to come back to Ralph’s. The manager took me right away and helped me in between helping another customer. Another manager came over within 2 minutes and immediately took over.
She was excellent, they are resolving my issue and were so kind. This is the customer service I expected a month ago from Amazon. Thank you to the great Ralph’s workers. You just made your store my top grocery store. I will be a loyal customer! Thank you again.

This store is very nice!!! Amanda in the cheesemonger of the year. She is so sweet an awesome ! She is my new best friend, she knows her cheese. Her recommendation where so amazing. The Holy Cow cheese with the chocolate cover almond and saying hi to Amanda, ask her cheese questions and leave with amazing cheeses!!!

Chris R in Produce was beyond helpful, with excellent customer service! HIGHLY SATISFIED and we will be returning. Love all the samples! Wanted to give feedback on kroger, but there was no code on the bottom of our receipt? So Unilocal will have to do! :) Until next time.

We recently moved out of the area, but for years the Ralph’s at Del Mar Highlands was our family’s go-​to grocery store. As a Ralph’s Fresh Fare, it has more of the higher end product lines than a typical Ralph’s store. Ralph’s caters to its more price-​focused customers with its Food 4 Less brand, it has Ralph’s in the middle and Ralph’s Fresh Fare focused on the higher demographics areas. This store’s deli area is bigger than other stores’, the sushi is made on-​site and the wine section is particularly robust. Pretty cool, right? This Ralph’s is hooked up.
This Ralph’s also benefits from the recent renovations to the Del Mar Highlands Town Center. The palm trees at the main entrance dress the place up, as do the new common areas and shop building facades. Sure, I wish it were easier to park at peak times, and traffic can back up entering and exiting the center, but that just means other people want to shop there too.

WOAH. Nicest Ralphs in San Diego, for sure. Definitely come check this place out for lunch. They have a deli counter, a cold food bar, salad bar, sushi bar, hot food bar, and another prepared food bar. Want a salad? It’s here. Want sushi? It’s here. Want fried chicken with some potato wedges? It’s here. Want some Asian styled chicken (teriyaki, orange, and general tso’s)? It’s here.
Huge area of prepared food, bigger than any Ralphs, Vons, or Albertsons in the area. Come here and you’ll find something for everyone.

Wholy s#*+t! You take your life in your hands just trying to get in the door! Some of the rudest customers I’ve seen!

There are four grocery stores in this vicinity and this is my «go to» grocery store. Great deli counter, produce selection, meat counter, wine selection and more.
Okay, I know it’s a grocery store and there isn’t much you can say but I’m hoping the people who manage this store will take a few things to heart:
— like just about every store, they served broiled chicken but they also served turkey breast. The problem is they only cook a couple of the turkey breasts and they are gone by middle of the day. For those of us who are working and aren’t able to get to the store until 5 or 6pm, they are ALWAYS gone. Now it would seem logical to me if they are running out everyday, maybe cook more? I’ve been told that I can order one but I typically don’t know day to day if I’m going to go to the store. They always have plenty of cooked chickens but never have any of the cooked turkey breasts
— while the produce selection is abundant, quite often they are trying to get rid of spoiling or about to spoil produce. I am a HUGE mango fan and would say that 50% of the time when I buy a mango I get home only to cut it open and find out it’s rotten. For those who aren’t familiar with this store, the parking here is an absolute nightmare. You might want to take a valium before trying to park here, so for me to go back because the fruit I just bought is already spoiled, well, it’s a tough choice and usually I just decide to throw out the rotten fruit. And it’s not just isolated to the mangos. Strawberries are another of their famous culprits they sell at a discount when they are rotten. Some might say, «you get what you pay for…» but not in a supposedly reputable grocery store. I shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not I’m getting quality just because the food is on sale.
— I’ve read reviews about how friendly and helpful the staff are and I would agree. But excessively so. Yesterday I was getting some apples when someone wearing what looked like a hat with bananas on it kept asking me if there was something I needed or was looking for. At the time, I was actually putting the apples in a bag. I looked at him and looked at the apples. Not sure why he couldn’t see that I had found what I was looking for… the apples. Today I was walking from the produce section over to the deli section and I don’t think I could walk 10 feet without someone stopping me to ask if I needed anything. I appreciate the helpfulness but it’s overbearing. The answer is «yes», I do need something… I need to walk from the produce to the deli. There isn’t anything they can do to help me with that. It’s like walking into a retail store where the second you enter the store you’re attacked by the people who work there about helping you. Rarely do I go to the grocery store and not know what I already need and this is probably the same for most. Again, it’s nice that there are so many people who can help but would it kill them to just wait to be asked? I mean if I even looked like I was lost or looking for something I would understand but I’m filling a bag of apples. Just like in a department store, I don’t want to have to explain every other minute that I’m fine and I’m just looking. So what I’m asking is if the employees could be less intrusive and just let me do my shopping.
— The parking here is nightmare. Parking here is like parking at the shopping mall the day after Thanksgiving
— loud; there is a cheese bar with a wonderful assortment of cheeses, but they are also playing music louder than most clubs. Most of the time I pass by the cheese bar because the music is playing too loud. Maybe I’m getting too old, but when I go into the nearby Vons or Jimbo’s they aren’t blasting nightclub music.
As I’ve said, this is my «go to» grocery store but the experience could be much better.

All the employees are incredibly friendly and helpful. Never too busy at this Ralph’s. Awesome salad bar, soup bar, and other entrée items! Great grocery store!

Grocery stores are a necessity. The remodel at this Ralphs is a big improvement. The cash register people are always terrific. I can’t say the same for the deli employees. I’m not always sure what they are doing back there but helping customers quickly is not one of them. As many have commented the parking lot is often a disaster. This is not a fault of the store but important to keep in mind during peak times. The sushi bar happens to be quite good as well.

On 2 separate occasions, I have employees go above and beyond to ensure a great experience. Both of these experiences were unexpected and a true reflection of employees whom genuinely care about great customer service. 5 stars to those employees!!!
That being said… there is one Front of Store Manager who needs to go. I have been waiting in line at the deli on 2 separate occasions. On both occasions he has made eye contact with me, walked around from the deli counter and literally walked in circles around the refrigerated section while leaving his employees with a growing line of customers. I find this to be opposite of the leadership a manager should reflect.

5 stars for the hot bistro bar. Tri-​tip, roast, chicken, asparagus, mac and cheese, boy am I glad I don’t live too close to this Ralphs because that hot food bar is just way too convenient. I would be a glutten.
I love the new fancy upscale remodel and it definitely fits the demographic of Del Mar. I usually come in here looking a wreck after an exercise class but the staff is always super helpful and courteous. I’m not going to rate them on their customers because seriously it is nothing to do with them. I may not «fit» in but hey I’m treated great.
It’s a supermarket that is a little more fancy than most. But really in my book what makes it great is the service and that ymmy convenient hot food bar!!!

New hot food bar! Eggplant, Thai curry chic, lasagna, roasted root vegetables.. Lots to choose from. In Deli, the best ribs. New sweet bourbon tri tip. Brussell sprouts, fried chix and tons more. Soup bar. Greens soup, carrot ginger, split pea! Gonna give whole foods a run for their money! Love!!!

Five stars for the beautiful remodel of this Ralph’s, but the parking lot will continue to be one star at peak hours until they resolve this major issue with a parking garage that is in the works… thank goodness for that!
We stopped by here last Friday during the Grand Re-​Opening event held early that morning. They were raffling off a free iPad mini and were giving away a free breakfast (carton of Minute Maid OJ, Thomas English Muffins and a carton of eggs) with $ 20 purchase. It was crowded, but we still managed to browse the freshly remodeled changes here.
Talk about a very uppity makeover to cater to the local demographics of their customers. The floral department moved to the West entrance where Coffee Bean used to be (and now replaced with Starbucks located where the wine cellar used to be).
The hot food self-​service area was pretty impressive, they had braised beef pot roast w/​au jus, braised pork osso bucco, beef bourguinon, chicken marsala, roasted butternut squash cannelloni, lasagna bolognese, eggplant parmesan, the list goes on and all for only $ 8.99/lb.
My favorite part of this grocery store are the clearance racks in the very back next to the seafood display. I found a cute Anna doll from the movie, Frozen for only $ 5.99 (marked down from $ 14.99). I’m trying to start my holiday shopping early since I don’t want to stress about it in December, so this was one gift I got off my list!
I wanted short ribs similar to the ones you find marinated at Korean grocery stores. I bought some here a month ago and wanted to buy more, but couldn’t find it on display. The butcher came out and was able to help me right away and packaged some for me, talk about going above and beyond with their customer service!
Customer service is usually great here, I never had issues with poor customer service, just issues with sometimes snooty customers that think it’s okay to act like they rule the grocery aisles. I sometimes exchange my lottery ticket winnings here, which is fairly easy to do once you can get someone from their super tiny customer service counter to help you out.
Overall, this is probably THE best Ralph’s grocery store in all of San Diego. I live minutes away from this location and usually shop at Vons due to the convenience. However, if Ralph’s continues to have comparable prices to their competitors, I may tough it out with coupons in hand and shop at Ralph’s more often.

They’re remodeling the entire supermarket and I don’t think it’s going very well. The floors look cold and bare; the re configured produce section is confusing; Coffee Bean is gone and replaced by the transitioned flower department; Starbucks now occupies a space with new baristas (when there’s a Starbucks café two doors down); specialty wine room now gone as well. Those are just a few of the changes I’ve noticed.
Not sure who they hired to re model/​design this location as the layout before was nice and easy on the eyes (at least in my opinion).
They still have great prices in their butcher and wine department though.
Oh well. Maybe the final design and layout will be worth the wait.

This is one of the nicer grocery stores I’ve been to. Stores kept very clean and it’s always easy to check out I really enjoy going to this Ralphs. The biggest problem with it is the parking it’s always tough to find a spot and it gets pretty crazy around lunch time

Rating a grocery store is rather superfluous, or is it? With this grocery store, it lends it self to a comment in the positive. They are a large high volume grocery store for the Carmel Valley-​ites, and Del Mar-​tians. Their fresh fruit/​vegetables section is well stocked and kept; along with the organic variety offerings.
I’d have to say their fresh food section is a bit more involved and larger than most standard grocery stores. Sandwiches, salad bars, warm foods, etc. Very well done.
Their cheese selection is the best I’ve seen amongst the big-​named grocery stores. Same goes for their Wine and Craft Beer selections.
I like that they have a manager/​employee over seeing the cash register lines and directing the patrons to the quickest and best line. They are there to help direct you for any other items if they detect a «lost look» on your face when in search of something.
Having a «self-​checkout» is a nice option as well. I’ve been here dozens of times (more than my check-​ins indicate) and can say it has been consistently good over the years. The only negative to coming to this location isn’t even really related to «Ralph’s» itself, but rather just the whole Del Mar Height town mall itself is exceedingly crowded and parking is cut-​throat and difficult. Come with your patience hat.

I dont really like Ralphs since theres no savings here at all. But I do work close to this store and when I want something more than just what my work has to offer or if I cant afford UP their chicken tortilla soup will do.
