After reading many positive reviews I had high hopes for Mitch’s. On a busy Friday night we ordered the the yellow fin fresh fried fish and the salad with halibut. For $ 18 the yellow fin was a little over cooked and over seasoned. It was accompanied by a mouth full of slaw. For $ 18 I was expecting much more. Maybe a side of fries too? The salad, which was also quite expensive, had a healthy serving of salad greens, but a pretty small piece of fish. Overall I was not really impressed with the food. Just a little overpriced, over cooked and under served. But the beer is great! Excellent selection! And a good price!

After a day at the boat show, my girl and I went to Mitch’s. I hadn’t been here in ages, but I remembered discovering it a couple years ago and being astonished that just down the way from PL Seafood exists a place that actually feels warm and welcome. Upon walking in today I was happy to see it was busy(Always a good sign) — I also noted that this was obviously the place the fisherman came to eat and drink. We ordered two rock cod tacos, a bowl of clam chowder, and a beer. $ 16, and really really good. Only, after eating the chowder, our tacos were stolen! However, it was no mystery — the seagulls had sniped them from under our noses. We were a bit in shock and resigned to pay a stupidity tax(On account of letting our tacos get stolen); however, before we could even reach the door to go back in and order, Ben asked if we were the customers who had their tacos stolen by the birds. Upon answering in the affirmative, Ben told us he would have them remade! Definitely not what we expected and we fully should have paid for the new tacos, but we took our good fortune in stride and enjoyed the rest of the meal. Will be back and on full alert for those damn seagulls!!! Thank you Ben, Thank you Mitch’s!

Mitch’s was fantastic with a great view of the harbor! We enjoyed the mixed seafood plate, a fish sandwich and potatoes. I am happy to say, if you are looking for perfectly fried calamari this is the place! The fried cod wasn’t anything special. The fried shrimp was amazing. The fish sandwich was fantastic! As far as the sauces go, the cocktail sauce was delicious and the tartar sauce was so so. The prices were right, the location was great, the service was friendly. We will return to further explore their seafood.

Great fun place. Seafood is the freshest it can be right off the dock. Had shrimp taco and octopus taco both were great. And they have craft beer on draft.

I’ve been eating here since before it was Mitch’s. They stayed true to the location and the menu years ago when it changed. It’s around back and can be a little hard to find but the food and the view are worth the hunt and the wait when it is busy! Hands down the best clam chowder bread bowl I’ve had in San Diego when the season is right! Large, delicious fish tacos and amazingly fresh food delivered daily! Nothing beats watching the boats and enjoying freshly caught fish. Bundle up on a cold night, grab a bread bowl, and enjoy the view of the marina and downtown. Definitely something you won’t regret!

Place is a little hard to find, but has an awesome waterfront view. Food was delicious, can’t go wrong with fish and chips. The freshest seafood, it’s right on the water!

I’m giving this little find, 5 stars! This is not the place to go if you are wearing your heals and fancy dress, but if great food, good prices, and harbor views is what you are after… this is it! We ordered fresh market grilled sword fish and it was AWESOME! We used to live on an island off Portugal and have not had swordfish this good since then! I also ordered spinach and it was wilted to perfection and lightly seasoned with fresh garlic. We sat, facing the«working» harbor, as fishermen were coming in for the evening and the sun was setting. It was just great for an early evening meal. We will definitely be going back!

Lets just start off with the location of this place. Phenomenal!!! This place is hidden and tucked away, no way of knowing this place without doing some research. Some of the Unilocal reviews don’t like that its very hidden, but that is what makes it worth while. Came here for lunch and got to sit outside on the porch facing the dock with an amazing view of ocean/downtown and Coronado island. This place is amazing and so peaceful. If you want a chill atmosphere with some amazing food this is your place. In most cases you either settle for location or food, but in this case both were amazing! My girlfriend got their burger because she’s not a fan of seafood and she bragged about how tasty it was! I got the sample platter that came with fries and all I could say was food comma. Love it and fully enjoyed my experienced at this place

Tucked away behind a sport fishing business(it’s hard to see from the street, trust in Google!), Mitch’s is a super-casual seafood joint serving top-notch fish at reasonable prices. My date and I ordered the special, ½ grilled spiny rock lobster with corn(with Mexican-inspired toppings) and coleslaw($ 18), and the salad topped with grilled shrimp($ 13?). I had an iced tea. Everything was cooked and seasoned really well, in addition to being obviously super fresh. Even the salad greens and veg were great! Plus, as you eat, you’re overlooking the marina, and if you’re lucky you’ll spy a sea lion(we saw two!). The service was no-nonsense and relatively quick, fitting of a business where you take a number to your seat and wait for your food.

I dropped by here to check out what all the raves were about. What I liked: Really great tasting juicy fresh oysters of perfect size that came with either lime or lemon slice(each piece of oyster had one!) and lots of extra oyster sauce(too much actually and I only used up 1⁄3) — this was really refreshing Beautiful location overlooking the dock and a very rustic fishing village interior with photos storying the history of the dock and the restaurant Fishermen’s stew — tomato based stew with potato, celery, lots of seafood(clam, fish, oyster, shrimp, and clam) and came with two toasts sliced in half. I thought it would have been a nice touch to give garlic bread instead but I am splitting hair here. The dish was filling and quite nice although I thought it was a bit on the salty side so I couldn’t finish the soup. It is possible that the pot was half boiling throughout the day and it got saltier towards the end of the day but who knows. Service — food came slow which was ok but I thought the girl who took my order at the counter was a bit lifeless and even when I added $ 3 to the jar to see if she smile a bit, nothing… actually not even thanks. May be she was having a bad day but I have to take a star off for that.

I almost didn’t want to write this review because I didn’t want to spread the word on this little gem, but I gotta give props where props are due! Yum!!! My husband and I got the combo plate, clam chowder, & an octopus taco. The fish filet on the combo plate was amazing. The batter was perfect — not over fried, light and fluffy — & the fish inside was delicate and moist. The crab cake was one of the best I have ever had. So much crab and seasoned very well. I probably wouldn’t get the combo again though, because the calamari was only ok, & there is a lot of it. The chowder. OMG. I want this daily. Such great flavor & a good amount of clam. This is a must have! I only had a bite of the octopus, but yes, delicious too. Not only is the food wonderful but the location is awesome! Love the bar seating over looking the harbor. We walked around the water after lunch and watched the seals. Lots of fun! Great afternoon; great little spot!

Casual waterfront dining with an amazing view of the San Diego Bay. Every seafood meal is served with locally caught seafood. The Fish Taco Platter $ 10 is 2 tacos served with Charro Beans, Fresh Chips and homemade salsa. You can order it with beer battered fish or calamari and a choice to have it either fried or grilled. Their fish tacos are amazing, it’s fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed and recommend ordering the Mixed Seafood Platter $ 14. It has fish, shrimp, calamari and crab cake served with french fries, cole slaw, slices of lemon and homemade tartar sauce. It will really satisfy your seafood cravings. They also serve affordable alcoholic beverages. I suggest sitting at the patio, the view is spectacular and you can watch the seals swimming around the boat dock while eating.

This place is very laid back but serve good seafood. It’s a casual place to have fresh seafood, cold beer and watch fishermen come n go. The servers do bring out your food but you have to stand in line to place your order. Outdoor seating is awesome especially when it’s a breezy day. Tip: come early to make sure you get to try the fresh caught oysters before they sell out.

We really like this place. All the fish is super fresh and it’s located right on the docks, so you really get a taste for the fishing culture down on the docks. Random tapped, local beers… Watch out for the gulls, though. Some poor bastard got dookie while waiting for his taco outside while we were sitting there. And don’t dress up. At all. Everyone will laugh at you for being a pretentious asshole. Which, well hey. If the shoe fits…

I finally had the chance to try Mitch’s Seafood and overall, the experience was average. We ordered the seafood platter and two tacos: one halibut and one shrimp. It took 40 minutes just to order and another 20 – 25 minutes for the food to come out. It was extremely crowded the entire time we were there so I recommend not going during peak hours during lunch or weekend unless you don’t mind waiting. The food is really good. I’ll definitely give them that. The seafood is incredibly fresh and of high quality. BUT the wait is outrageous and the tables are sticky and disgusting. So when taken together, all these details add up to an «eh» experience so I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back again.

Parking on a weekend night is ridiculous. You should know that going in. The line to order was really long, to the entrance and moved very slowly. The place is very small and tables are kind of hard to come by. There is some outdoor seating and standing. I got the mixed platter. It’s a mix of fried seafood, calamari, one tiny piece of fish, 3 shrimp and one crab cake. I wish you could put your platter together because most of the calamari was left on the plate. They have a decent selection of beers and even bigger selection of wine. I think I prefer Point Loma seafood because I can create what I want. I choose my seafood and how I want it cooked.

Thank God for the big blue and yellow sign. Mitch’s Seafood is tucked away between Point Loma Sportfishing and the sportfishing fleet itself, almost hidden, so you really have to want to be there to get there. A dockside diner, Mitch’s is a favorite of fishermen and boat crews as they come ashore, having endured a day or week or more of greasy burgers and beer, eaten quickly, so as to allow others to chow down in their boats’ tiny galleys. Of course, Mitch’s serves city folk and tourists, too. The restaurant satisfies a broad range of tastes by keeping things uncomplicated. Their menu offers fresh fish and shellfish prepared simply(sandwiches, plates, tacos), adds a few other items(burgers and chicken, poutine, some vegetables), and, this being San Diego, includes a short, well-chosen list of local craft beers. Mitch’s Seafood has a good reputation, deservedly so, and the buzz sometimes attracts large crowds who line up for lunch or dinner. For the most part, Mitch’s is run by kids in their twenties, and to their credit, they manage their menu — and the crowds it attracts — with a very professional attitude. You’ll stand in line, but you won’t wait long, and the food you’re served will generally be delicious. Over my last couple of visits, I’ve ordered(or tasted) the following dishes: Fried Shrimp Platter — These were large, nicely breaded shrimp, lightly fried in fresh oil to deliver a clean, crisp crunch and a tender, sweet Mexican shrimp hit in every bite. A real winner. ½ Pound Cheeseburger served with French Fries — For one day during CityBeat-sponsored Burger Week, Mitch’s was out of hamburger, so my wife and I were delayed getting to try this treat. Fortunately, the large, lean, juicy and flavorful burger, served on an old-school sesame bun, was entirely worth waiting for. Not as good as Balboa Bar and Grill’s Balboa Burger, but Mitch’s has windows, so we’ll call it a draw. Crab Poutine — I was excited to try this combination of cheesy crabmeat over fries for some time, but the reality disappointed. The serving was a large bowl of what were, essentially, greasy French fry-based nachos, topped with a small bit of cheese sauce, a scant handful of dry, shredded crabmeat and a gratuitous scattering of tater tots. Had it been half the price, this«poutine» still would have failed to deliver adequate value. Grilled Halibut Sandwich — This was the sandwich that saved the day! Because my Crab Poutine was so awful, my dining companion graciously shared her oversized, overstuffed fish sandwich, and in the game of «Whose Lunch Is Better?» she clearly won. The fish, a good, thick piece of halibut from Ensenada, was lightly spiced then tossed onto the flattop to cook until just done, adding a toothsome crust to the moist fish inside. The bread, a grilled torta, broke up just a bit while I ate, as juice from the excellent ripe tomato hit the bread. Worse things have happened, and I’ll eat this sandwich again. Roasted Asparagus — This was an afterthought when I ordered the«poutine», and it was a good one. The asparagus were cooked to a perfect texture(not too soft but easy to bite through), and dressed with olive oil, lemon and shaved Parmesan cheese. Simple, tasty, a snackable vegetable dish, one I’d munch while sitting on the deck, watching the boats come in. Other Stuff: French Fries — While I understand that Mitch’s fries used to be good, in my experience, these hard, cold, oily things are not worth the server’s trip from the kitchen. Pass. Cole Slaw — I always enjoy this pleasantly tangy, creamy slaw that tops the fish sandwich(and the burger!) so well. Beer — The beers at Mitch’s vary, but you can count on finding one or more local craft beers you recognize and appreciate. This isn’t a beer hall, but it’s nice that management chose to serve quality beverages. That being said, I do think the offer of beer«flights» seems a little precious. Service — As mentioned previously, I’ve been impressed with the quality of service provided by Mitch’s young staff. On a recent visit, after two of our orders arrived with terrible fries and some missing components, I was able to quickly and easily arrange a partial refund, and, in fact, the manager offered all of our money back(but best not to be greedy…). Servers stay pretty well-organized, even when the dining room is chaotic, and the kitchen, which can get swamped, catches up quickly, and in the meantime, food quality doesn’t seem to suffer. My wife’s sister and her husband recently visited from rural Pennsylvania, and when they suggested a waterfront lunch, I thought, «Who serves great fish and seafood for a reasonable price, and prepares it better than Point Loma Seafood, Fish Market or Anthony’s?» The answer was easy: Mitch’s Seafood.

I’m writing this review because a certain taco shop(will remain nameless) hit me up to vote for them as having the best fish taco. It really got me thinking… who has the best fish taco in town? Would I recommend them to friends and family? I came up with Mitch’s. They do have one of the better fish tacos in town. I ordered the halibut and the scallop tacos, side of onion rings and a beer. Halibut was great, scallops were good too. All the ingredients tasted fresh. No complaints from my belly. On top of the good food is the view. There is something about eating next to water and with a view that makes it just a better experience. Great place to get your taco fix!

The best micheladas I have ever had. I swear to never buy a $ 2 michelada cup at the liquor store again. So good. I had two for an early lunch. Yellowtail fish tacos were amazing. Tasty and filling. I want that again. The chips were okay. Wish they were warm. It doesn’t detract any stars though because everything else was delicious especially my onion rings. Those things had the perfect bater and crunch. I don’t mean to make a big deal about onion rings but they were that good. Great views of the marina. You get that pier vibe as you eat outside on a barstool overlooking the fishing boats. Suns out. Drinking a michelada. Life is good. Lunch is inexpensive. During lunch the lines don’t quit. Literally out the door, fifteen people deep. So plan accordingly but you have to try it.
