MMHS Class of ’15!!! Marauders go hard. Marauder for life. I loved going to Mira Mesa. Being a part of such an amazing school and amazing experience. So many fine Asians. I loved being down the street from so much Asian food and boba. Hell yeah. Vape is life

Nice football field for a high school. I played flag football here for Vavi Sports. More fun and safe than the field we used to play at. Very clean, esp since its brand new.

Been here several times for events, Tuesday evening Farmer’s Market and the Monday night Food Truck Events.
Sure the facilities are old, but they are adequate.
I have been inside the library and the theater. The library is actually a really nice size– spacious and lot of room. I’ve been in the theater for several debates, and the only complaint I have is how hard the seats are on my bum!

I graduated from Mira Mesa High School as a salutatorian nearly 20 years ago. I had no reason to believe that there was much wrong with the school… at the time. That’s only because I didn’t know any different. With more life experience, I began to realize that MMHS set me up to speak like an «idiot». Students at MMHS are not taught propper grammar. I end my sentences in prepositions. I feel stupid in conversation with my peers as I never learned the basics of US history or economics. Having us watch the OJ Simpson trial the entire semester was pure laziness on the teacher’s part. A common trend I found at Mira Mesa High. Shame on Mira Mesa High and a waste of students’ opportunities and the tax payers’ money. The coaches for the after school sports weren’t much better. If you are thinking of moving to Mira Mesa and you have children, I urge you to reconsider. Unless the school has made drastic improvements, I will tell you that this school provides a poor to fair education. On the other hand, social interaction was fine (although there was some drug use among some students as well as some gang-​like activity).

MARAUDERS DO IT BIG! I just recently graduated from Mira mesa high school (2013) and that school was pretty amazing. In all my 4 years of attending that high school we had tremendous highlights: we had the school covered in snow, we got 99.9% of the school to wear blue during the pep rally, we had 2 huge pep rally’s with neon lights, & recently I’ve heard that they shut down the lights in the football field and had fireworks! The football games are always packed and even more when it’s the powderpuff games. The girls get really into the game and im proud of the girls in my year because WE WON BOTH GAMES! yeah sorry 2012 and 2014 it had to be addressed.
There are plenty of amazing teachers I have come to love and appreciate through-​out my 4 years there. I’ve befriended plenty of teachers: Mr. Zara, Mr. Spurlock, Mr. Earnest, Mr. Snow, Mr. Swanson, Srg. Manson, Srg. Crouch, and the list just goes on and on. Mr. Zara and Mr. Spurlock are my two favorites and I can’t pick who I like most. Mr. Zara is the funniest teacher I’ve ever had and I feel like we are a lot alike. He dances in class a lot. He even did the dougie. He has a joke book, that he doesn’t need cause he’s already funny. He even showed us his high school picture. He really acknowledged me when I was sad and so does Spurlock. Spurlock is a balance of funny and strict. He likes to play rock songs that I normally wouldn’t like or would even want to listen to but it’s grown on all of us but it’s only acceptable to listen to it in his class haha. I’ve grown to love screen printing because of his class.
Of course im not going to say that the school is perfect because there have been a few fights at school but honestly having at least 1 fight a school year is inevitable all over the world. Also the school is getting enhanced little by little every year. the theater stage is nicer, the screen printing room is bigger and better, and I believe our video production facility is getting fixed up.
I love this school because of the school spirit, big events, amazing teachers, & how the school thrives to keep enhancing the environment.

Go Marauders! There’s enough school spirit here to power all of Mira Mesa. Football, Powderpuff, Pep rallies, grad night and prom are all insanely blood pumping. The school is pretty much over 80% Asians. There is quite a bit of a violence and drug problem so there is always campus police and the school is gated and locked during class hours. The campus is pretty big and a lot of class rooms are located in bungalows. Best departments are English, Math, Drama, History and Band. Spanish and Science are just so-​so. There’s over 100 clubs on campus, lots of activities to be a part of. Lunch is insane since the school is overpopulated. Counselors are mediocre and not all that friendly. They have a very ideal location since it’s in the middle of Mira Mesa and within a block from the public library, Taco Bell, Phở Ca Dao, Target and Vinh Hung. Parking is spacious and a lot of students practice for their drivers’ license on the weekends. There’s also a farmer’s market by the parking lot and there’s a space where pumpkins and Christmas trees are sold every season as well. Fireworks are also shot from the back of the school every Fourth of July.

M-​A-​R-​A-​U-​D-​E-​R-​S! Lol. I’m such a nerd. I loved my high school. The best part of it was being in marching band. I had great teachers and ones that didn’t know what the hell they were doing. I don’t even know how they got a degree in education. For me, high school was a great time and I wouldn’t change anything about it! Blue and Gold!!!

just kind of your average public school i went here for my freshman and half my sophmore year im a senior now theres just so many kids per class that its extremely difficult to get one on one help and dont expect to get it during class lol. also its hard to meet with counselors they give you literally 5 minutes of their day once a year to plan your high school career… i didnt really think the school was that bad im general but looking back i would never choose mmhs over charter school and the reason i made the switch in the first place was because i was getting bullied pretty bad by an older girl and the school did absolutely nothing theyll pretend like theyre trying to resolve issues but theyre really not they just dont want to deal with you. i only have to go to school 3x a week now and its independant but i can come in anytime to get help from my teacher and we spend alot of time discussing what i want for my future and all the options i have and its great my grades have improved as well.

Attended night school here back in 1995 for a couple months… there was a HOT teacher named Mr Maggai. Dunno if he’s still there tho.
ANYWAYS, now I just go to Mira Mesa High School during the FALL or SPRING season on saturdays cause my kids play for the Mira Mesa Chargers (Youth Football).
So it’s pretty cool that the Mira Mesa Marauders let the youth football players use their field.

Well, since it’s up here I might as well review it.
It’s a school that has a bad reputation among those who never attended it simply because people mistake third degree anecdotes with fact. I even had a friend that met someone from Scripps who, with close-​minded audacity, asked her whether or not MMHS had drive-​bys every week. What the hell?
The truth of the matter is, for a public school, academically, MMHS is one of the best in the city, frequently placing third in standardized testing scores in the SDUSD behind Scripps and La Jolla High (for obvious reasons). Patrick Henry was not far behind, however, and may have inched by in more recent years. I wouldn’t know.
In any case, every public school is bound to have knuckleheads walking its campus, but as long as you stick with your studies and attend honors or AP courses, you’ll never have any means of mingling with them unless it’s by choice.
Overall, MMHS is a great school with great people, though it leaves much to be desired in the diversity department. I myself am Filipino and actually liked the fact that there were so many Filipinos and Asians like myself (the class of ’07 had 19 Nguyens. I know this because everyone cheered out the count one by one. It was really comedic). But because of this, I had basically been schooled to believe that only science was the respectable route into a profession and that UCSD was Mecca, or something. Hell, I went into college thinking that declaring yourself a business major meant you had aspirations to start a business (what the hell is an accountant?).
In a nutshell, really good school and I have a ton of great memories, though I really could’ve used some diversity. At least there were a ton of pretty Asian girls who weren’t taller than me to mingle with, though.

its strange that i know high school kids who’s parents went there the same time i was there… its ok, im still young at heart, even if my body is failing me. praise God!
