I brought my SAAB for oil change and asked for mobil1 synthetic. They agreed, but put non Mobile1 poor quality oil, overfilled my car by more then whole Qt, (it damages catalytic converter), and charged me $183.45. When I pointed out on overfilling, the mechanic turned on the engine(so the pump would take some oil), and told me it should be this way!!! I already extracted the extra oil, Now I have to change the oil again (turbo requires a good oil), Never again to this shop!!! The owner Jim is a rare breed. He is what I consider «Old School» in that he is honest & straightforward. Recently, I had to smog my 1976 Buick, Jim and his mechanic Steve did a great job getting it to pass smog with out «breaking the bank». In fact the CO emissions are now as clean as an electric Nissan Leaf. Jim even when so far as to refund me with out hesitation the cost of one of the repairs that didn’t meet my satisfaction. Now that is outstanding service!

Found this place through AAA so I was hoping I wouldn’t have any problems and I didnt. Very busy place but they were polite and professional. I was in and out quicker than they estimated. I will definitely bring my truck here if I have nay future problems.

awesome owner and shop! really helpful when i was in a bind. needed oil filter put on car. didnt have the part needed to remove filter and already had brand new oil in. every other shop said they couldnt help unless they drained the new oil and did a complete oil change.
walked in and they helped me within minutes for a very low fee. very satisfied! will come here for other car issues!!!

Jim, the owner, is a sweetheart! I came by to get a smog check and I only had to wait 15 minutes. While I waited, I noticed his interaction with his customers. One man came in and said his car was towed to Jim’s shop but unfortunately, had to leave it until Monday. Jim was so kind and said «no problem at all! I understand». The man also mentioned they are just trying to decide if they are going to sell it out keep it and Jim asked «want me to ask around the shops here for you? Sometimes the body shop likes to buy parts». What a nice guy! He’s so friendly and their smog check was quick! Also, the sweet lady at the front desk was off but since I was still there, she told Jim she would wait until I was finished. They make sure to take care of you. I’m not sure what other services they offer but I would definitely recommend this place for a smog check!

Called them up to get a quote for a brake & lamp inspection. The guy who answered the phone really tore into me and freaked me out about how deep and thorough the process is and how much is was, $ 50.00 for each inspection. Said they take 2 – 3 hours and everything has to be perfect and so on. I hung up the phone so worried and freaked out. I didn’t know what to do but call other shops and hope for the best.
I ended up finding another shop. The guy told me the basics of what they do over the phone and said it was only $ 57.00 total for both inspections. So I went to his shop and he took about 40 minutes to complete everything. He Checked all my lights properly and thoroughly to make sure they worked. Then he pulled all my wheels off and inspected my brakes and everything. And that was it.
For future reference I hope Mira Mesa automotive lowers their price down and stops scaring people over the phone. They would probably get more business.

I don’t normally get things down for my car. My husband usually does that stuff because I’m afraid I would get ripped off.
I have to to say i have gotten alignments and smog checks here. The staff is friendly and they don’t try to give you high prices.
I love the that they are close to 24 hour fitness so I can workout while I get my car done.

My clutch went out and the Mira Mesa auto staff was excellent in communicating to me what was occurring throughout he process. I received an itemized list of what everything cost and when I got my car back it ran better than it ever has. They also honored a 24k warrantee which was great. I would highly recommend.

My Dodge Ram truck lost a radiator hose on the 15 freeway at Mira Mesa, I pulled into shell gas station and called AAA and was taken to the closest approved shop; Mira Mesa Automotive. The receptionist and staff were personable and professional. My truck was fixed within a couple of hours and I was on my way. I just wish the shop was in North County and I would be a customer for life. A good mechanic is hard to find with good customer service and fair prices. Thanks Mira Mesa Automotive.

Quick and easy! Went in for a smog check and was in and out in less then 20 mins! The lady working the desk was really nice and friendly. I really wish I didn’t have to do a smog check but the state of California wants to make sure my car is okay I guess the taxes I pay yearly to live in this broke state isn’t enough here’s more crap for me to pay for.
I found out about this place from Unilocal and was in a rush to get it done. I called and was helped immediately. The lady said I can come in without an appointment which is even better I needed it done on the fly my registration was due.
If your local id recommend it.

Was fortunate enough to find this place as my 97 Audi broke down on my way to an interview. My starter had finally gone out as I pulled into a gas station off the 15, called AAA and was taken to the closest approved shop. The staff was incredibly nice and very professional and they really helped me out when I was in a tough situation. I will be back with any furthering problems for sure. On a trip from Sac to San Diego my 2011 Mini Cooper had the check engine light come on, sputtering and trying to stall. We took it into Mira Mesa and they diagnosed and repaired the issue within hours! Kelly and the staff were awesome! Straightforward, honest, and I felt extremely confident in the work they did. Went here for my SMOG check today and they did it super super fast 15 – 20 minutes and I was outta there! $ 45 was the cost. I’d recommend them for a smog check for sure!
The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and greeted me and told me he’d be with me in a moment (he was assisting another customer) and was very kind when I left. Overall a good experience!

Went in for a smog check with a coupon. In and out quickly, no problems with the coupon, no nonsense. I’ll be back.

I have been coming to these guys for years to smog all of my cars and they are just awesome. If you have a compact car, you can go on their website and print a coupon for a nice cheap smog. If you don’t have a compact, they offer AAA membership discounts and I believe military discounts.
I recommend calling ahead and scheduling an appointment. If you do, you will be in and out in about 20 to 30 minutes. If for some reason you don’t pass, they offer a free resmog and can fix the problem for you. I don’t honestly know how competitive their prices are since I have never failed a smog but have heard they are pretty good.
If you are looking for a place that offers a fast and relatively cheap smog location, look no further.

I recommend them heavily if you’re getting your car smogged. They’re very friendly and get it done quickly. I had modifications to my car and they did not hassle me at all about it.

I came in after an unfortunate breakdown! Was towed to their lot via AAA membership services as they are a certified «repair guaranteed» mechanic. Met the owner, Jim — who has been working on cars longer than I’ve been alive.
Customer service was top-​rate & they were very knowledgable, informative and friendly.
Pricing was fair and honest, plus I needed substantial work done! My car runs better than it had before the breakdown! That’s saying something. They are out of my area where I live and I wouldn’t trust my vehicle to anyone else!

YOU DECIDE:
Whenever I have a repair I can’t do myself, I call in advance asking what they charge for a repair I have already done myself so I can get an idea on their ethic/​moral approach in regards to pricing etc.
I asked what they would charge for replacing the starter on my vehicle and was quoted $ 408 for parts, labor and taxes! The issue is: I removed my old starter, brought it to O’rielly Auto Parts for testing, bought and installed a new starter in a span of 40 minutes at a cost of $ 29. Seems like this place has a very high mark up and over charges/​lies on the time involved…
A starter replacement involves removing 2 bolts and 2 nuts (that hold the wiring on). then replacing with the new. Nothing else to it.

I panic when some lights on my car display is lid up.
Yesterday the Service Engine Soon light lid up and i was like… OMG!!! what’s wrong with my car???
I happened to be around that area and saw tons of auto repair shop so I went into one of them to ask. The technician looked and said, «okay, something’s wrong with your engine and this is not a service light!» It costs $ 75 to just find out what exactly is wrong with it. Then there would be repair fee.
Shoot me to death. So much money!
Then he asked if I have gotten gas recently, which was what I did the day before. He did some test and found out actually the gas tank cap was loose! I didn’t close it completely and my car thought it’s a GROSS LEAK.
Thank you technician. No fee was charged!
