Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

Another work trip, the hotel was in a perfect location and the amenities are above other hotels in the area. The concierge was amazing with great staff and food/​snack options. The rooms are nicely sized and are well kept. The grounds are above average and give the feel of a Hawaiian resort.

The hotel is in an awesome location. It is right on the Marina and a short walk to the Gaslamp District. If you are so inclined, you can walk down the waterfront trail ½ mile to the Midway Aircraft Carrier.

Overall a nice hotel. The pool area is excellent… My only gripe is that they dont offer free wifi. Considering the amount of money per night, seems like they are just nickel and dimeing the customers

Ok, this is by far the best hotel I have stayed in in a long time. I will admit I had a problem when I first checked in — the room they gave me had a musty smell — turns out the AC was broken. However, in true customer service fashion not only did they fix that but they upgraded me and gave me a beautiful water view and access to the executive lounge. I have always said, I do not expect people to be perfect but I do expect them to show true empathy and resolution when there is a problem. This hotel was fantastic in that respect.
Perfect location — on the water, easy walk to the gaslamp district and the USS Midway aircraft carrier museum. Also, easy walk to shops and the water shuttle to Catalina.
Overall, just a fantastic experience, hotel and staff. Will absolutely stay there again.

This is the second time staying at this hotel. My boyfriend and I went on a mini vaca and we chose this hotel again because we enjoyed it so much the first time. The woman who helped us check-​in was so nice, she upgraded our room with a balcony, high floor, and a great view. Honestly, I felt a little bad because it did not hit me until we got into the elevator and I realized 25 was the highest floor. So to whoever helped us THANK YOU! Because of your amazing customer service you will always be our first choice when choosing a hotel in SD.

We spent several nights at the Marriot Marquis in January of 2016 and found this to be one of the best hotels we’ve stayed. My fiancée was attending a conference there so this was all pleasure for me! We arrived to find a long line at the check in. I was suprised how fast it went but they had EVERY station manned. We got up to the counter and they upgraded our room for free to a 16^th floor balcony on the harbor side. Always ask and sometimes you can get a really good deal. The clerk was super friendly and offered insight on dining as well.
Our room was great with a sitting area and balcony looking out over the pool area, marina and San Diego harbor. Just an amazing sight to be even above the seagulls lazily floating by. The bed and linens were top quality. The room did not have a tub but did have a walk in shower, separate dressing area and refrigerator. There was also a safe in the room. I was impressed with the service as the safe was locked when we arrived. I called and security was there in less than 3 minutes, unlocking the safe and wishing me a good stay.
We did not order room service as there was an $ 8 delivery fee but we did visit their food court which had a UPS store, a gift shop and a Starbucks as well as their local snack bar and in house restaurant.
This is truly a great place to stay as its attached to the harbor and has a marina that rents boat slips as well. There’s a really nice boardwalk that connects the harbor, marina, and seaport village all together.
Hopefully I will get a chance to stay here again!

The hotel itself is beautiful. The amenities are great and the views are perfect. The staff has been fairly accommodating so far too. My only gripe has been their «exchange» quick food pickup restaurant. I can’t find a separate location on here to review it so I am including it with the hotel. I expected overpriced food, given how nice this hotel is, but the food there is pretty bad on top of the price. I ate there twice and both times I wish I’d paid the $ 10+ dollars more to eat at Marina. How do an egg white burrito, a light Mac and cheese, and a tomato soup have so much grease but no salt or flavor? Other than that this hotel has been just fine.

Stayed here for a conference. Great location, beautiful rooms. Was there when it rained cats and dogs, so I didn’t get to venture out much. I like the café area near the starbucks, even though it’s a bit pricey. I am glad they have recycling efforts and while they indicated that there is a recycling bin in the room, I couldn’t identify it. I was disappointed to have a view of the top of a building but since it rained the entire time, I didn’t look outside much. I appreciate the UPS store being so convenient, even though their prices are higher than other places. The front desk staff and bell hop were very friendly and considerate. Would definitely recommend for large conventions/​meetings.

The 4^th of July ’15 stay was horrible! I brought my kids for the first time & they loved it here but we were switched from one room to the other, getting it right on the 3^rd room. It isn’t right that you drive 7 – 8 hours, book & pay full hotel price to a hotel you rave about to every single person you know & then get into so much hassle like that. Dinner was one fun event here & i understand it can be very busy. But please teach your staff to be more accommodating? Food isn’t cheap here if I’m paying for 5 people & it meant I can also afford going somewhere else to dine. Have the politeness not to turn down a mother asking for a
group pic of her & her teenage kids. We are building memories here, please be sensitive enough not to say «Can i get back with you later?» and NOT really come back. What’s teeth gritting was she would just pass us by totally forgetting her promise. My kids & I were embarrassed bec the people sitting at the next table heard & knew of the turned-​down request. Luckily, we saw an employee looking like a manager, he’s black. I told him of the situation & he was very apologetic. He took a pic of us but everyone wasn’t looking in their upbeat, happy moment anymore. It sucks! And btw, we would be by the pool for 4 – 5 hours, not a single hotel employee approached us for food orders. We went to nearby Seaport Village to eat lunch around 12.
We already booked our next 4^th of July stay mainly bec my kids loved the pool but I told them we are reducing our stay to just 2 nights. I used to book here minimum 3 to 5 days but not this time bec of the bad experience my kids & I had at the restaurant.

One of my favorite San Diego hotels! My husband and I have been here a few times and each time has been amazing!
The views, the views are what brought us and have kept us coming! The staff are amazing. The rooms are great. Down to the drinks, food, pools, gym and so on, not one thing has been overlooked.
We also enjoy the proximity to everything downtown. We can walk to Gaslamp, Seaport, Cheesecake Factory, and public transit if needed.
Some of their prices can be steep (parking $ 10 an hour, $ 30 self park, $ 40 valet), but it’s a Category 7 resort, it can be expected. Drinks and food by the pool are typical to any other restaurant. We paid $ 12 piece for Mojito’s for example and I think $ 8 for Guac and Salsa with chips.
I could go on and on about my love for this hotel and amenities.
I do recommend if you travel often, to sign up for their Marriott credit card. It has great perks towards travel and their brands. We are Platinum Elite holders. You get a free night on your anniversary (of opening your card) a welcome gift when you arrive, and upgrades if they are available, member only access area’s, just to name a few.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone for any type of travel. There’s always something going on. It’s kid friendly or great for just an adult getaway.

We are San Diego residents and had a nice weekend getaway here. The hotel is lovely and has nice amenities. The thing I didn’t like was being nickel and dimed. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon, the staff was friendly and got us checked in right away. We went to the Marina Kitchen to have a drink and an appetizer, on the website it listed their happy hour as 11−4pm on the weekends — the bartender said they didn’t have any happy hour. The internet charge was $ 16/​day per person, parking is $ 30/​day. We ordered breakfast on Sunday morning and they had an $ 8 delivery charge and the food was awful — frozen, pre made food from a box. The location is nice and the pool is wonderful, but at $ 250 (trying to be competitive with neighboring hotels)…it is really $ 300 – 325 per night once you tack on all the «extra» charges.

An excellent hotel. Accommodations are wonderful, starting with the beds & pillows. But it is the remarkable staff that make your stay a 5-​star experience. Welcoming, gracious, kind, helpful, and sincerely concerned with your overall experience.

From booking to check out — OUTSTANDING SERVICE !! Originally booked a standard room but ended up with a balcony and views of the Marina, comped for my birthday stay. THANK YOU SO MUCH !! My kids stayed outside, most of the day, haha ! All of my requests for extras were provided.
The property is well maintained and modern. No site of dust balls, worn down furniture and most of all, bathroom was gunk-​free ! Tub was kinda weird tho. Dipped in the middle and a tad slippery but that’s what bars are for. I even did my usual OCD check and empty bathroom shelves and behind lamps were spotless !
Location was perfect. Right next to the convention center and directly across the street from Tram stop.
I was addressed by name at front desk and upon check out was offered bottles of water for the drive home.
Parking was fairly easy, some spots kinda tight and noticed some cars parked in there «own» man-​made spaces, lol. There’s also a STARBUCK’s located inside !!!
Bed was so comfy, refrigerator was clean but water pressure could be a lil’ stronger.
Looks like my Marriott points will be racking up in the near future. THANK YOU a million times over for such pleasant 24 hour stay.

Beautiful resort with gorgeous views! Really close to seaport village you can walk there. Parking was a nightmare as with most huge resorts. We didn’t experience any dining here other then breakfast buffet, which was adequate if not mind blowing. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

I came here yesterday for a meeting. I ate in the restaurant which has a great view of the huge pool. I ordered the hose fish which was Char (like salmon but better) It had veggies and mashed potatoes under it. Very tasty and unique! I didn’t get picture as I didn’t want to be rude to my guest I was dining with.
The hotel is huge, and very nicely decorated. I hated paying 19.00 for parking for being there 1.5 hrs. Not sure how the rooms are, but I herd from my friend very nice. I would highly recommend the food, think its pretty pricey though. Service was also good, by our waitress.

So glad my work booked at this hotel right next to the San Diego Convention Center. It made it so convenient to get to the conference I was attending at SDCC with my colleagues. I’m not a morning person and the convention was on a weekend, so I slept in as late as I could before heading out. All I needed to do was take the escalators down to the street level, and walk next door.
This hotel’s location was nice. It overlooks the bay and is a very short walk to Seaport Village and Gaslamp District. So close to many restaurants and bars, so you won’t suffer from limited choices!
There isn’t much of a lobby, so if you’re waiting for people, you’ll have to wait by the restaurant area (Marina Kitchen) near the elevators. That area by the elevators got really crowded with conventioners in the morning and evening, so you’d have to find a spot closer to the bar if you need to sit down and/​or wait for people.
The hotel has a nice pool and there is food and drink service out there in the day time, but you’re out of luck at night. I went out there Friday night when we first arrived, and though the fire pits were on, there was no one around to serve you. It was a warm evening (around 70 degrees), so it would have been nice to have a margarita out there. I had lunch out there on Saturday and it was a very enjoyable experience! I had a nice Taco Salad from Tequila Bar and Grill.
The room was good. It was clean and comfortable, but it was a little cramped with two beds in there. My only complaint is my room was behind the elevators, so I could hear a faint noise from the elevator going up and down. Good thing I was really tired and went to bed late both nights, so I slept well despite hearing the elevators.
I would definitely recommend this hotel if you’re vacationing or attending a conference in San Diego. Just ask for a room that’s not next to the elevators and everything will be A-​OK!

Wowza, my 1300^th review!
My company always have their holiday party here and they always treated us well. Different years, different rooms. The banquet hall is quite large and have enough space for anything, from 20+ tables to 3 bars. We had a theme casino night and they had real like blackjack, craps, and roulette tables. The workers were fun and cool, not sure if they were part of the hotel but they were fun.
Food: the food was good! We had a buffet style banquet and they served everything from salads, pastas, cedar planked salmon and New York strip. It was all delicious! Try also had mini desserts. Our company had premium liquor and drinks never ran out .
Parking is at the convention center and they have valet. Overall, is a big and nice place to have a banquet reception.

I stayed at this hotel for five nights for a conference being held at the convention center next door. My room was on the 8^th floor and it had a balcony overlooking parts of the city and parts of the marina. The view was GORGEOUS! It almost made me look forward to waking up for my early morning meetings. The hotel is in a great location. It’s in close proximity to Gaslamp District, Seaport Village and Little Italy. With the boardwalk being literally an elevator ride away from my room, this hotel encouraged me to do something I’ve never done before in my life; go for a morning run before work. And it was glorious.
The only reason I did not rate it five stars is because of a few tiny things. 1. The hotel was very nice, but for some reason they are using subpar quality of toilet paper. 2. The water pressure in my room was VERY weak. The shower nozzle is not consistent in every room. My associate staying on the 6^th floor had ample water pressure. 3. The towels seemed very scratchy to me.
Again, those were TINY issues that didn’t effect the experience of my overall stay. I had a great time! Side note: The lobby always smells of fresh flowers. It’s such a soothing scent every time you walk into the hotel.

So far things a great! I had an easy checkin and got a beautiful room with a great view! Looking forward to this time here in San Diego!
Update: had to bring down my rating unfortunately. The reason for this is that I tried to extend my stay for one more day for work. The reason why I didn’t is because they raised my room rate to $ 450! Even Expedia couldn’t get them to honor my original pricing. So this left a taint on my experience with them.

Location, location, location. Yup, Marriott figure out the most important criteria for real estate and built a Marquis here. Next to the Seaport village for shopping and eating and a short skip and hop to the train station the the ball park. Gaslamp district is within walking distance, although it’s a good little trek. A very nice place is a good location. What more can you ask?

I only stayed at the Marriott Marquis for one night, but I definitely appreciated the location and classiness of the hotel. This hotel is located right by the San Diego Convention Center — primarily the reason we chose to book it — and within walking distance of the Gaslamp district. My friend had enough points to upgrade our room to one with a balcony and view of the marina and the hotel’s pool, which was a definitely plus as the balcony from our room was amazing!
The moment we walked into the room, we were all pretty much in awe. The room was very modernly decorated (lots of brown, earthy colors), with ample space for people to walk around in. There was also a flat screen television and a large desk. A comfy armchair and table stool was off to the side leading out to the balcony. There’s a good amount of closet space. Bathrooms are fairly large, although I didn’t like the setup as the toilet was right next to the bathtub, and the curtains were quite flimsy, allowing some water to seep out.
Honesty, the best part of the room was the balcony. Walking out, you’re able to see San Diego bay with all the docked boats. There’s two chairs and a table, allowing guests to sit outside and enjoy the view and fresh air. The pool of the Marriott is uniquely shaped — a curved «U» with lots of bends. At night, the Marriott’s pool is lit up with bright lights, giving off a very romantic and calm feel to the hotel stay especially when you’re taking it in along with the cool breeze!
Personally, I felt like the first floor of the Marriott reminded me of ballrooms at Universities and convention centers. There are lots of different halls and suites, and LOTS of events going on every day. So much so, that they have an LCD display that lists daily events. All throughout the hotel are comfortable armchairs and tables for guests to linger about.
Hm, so maybe I lied. I also really enjoyed the hotel’s pool! Although I didn’t get into the water, I was able to sit on one of their comfortable sunbathing chairs and people watch. They have a bar area where people can order drinks/​food, and they also have various fireplaces scattered around the pool area for people to sit around when the evening breeze starts to come in. And you can find really beautiful decorations — waterfalls, plants, flowers — scattered throughout the pool area. The pool’s bathrooms are fairly nice, with shower stalls (don’t forget your room key or else you can’t get into the bathroom). There’s also a hot tub area that’s separated from the pool area.
Okay, besides the pool and the balcony, I REALLY loved the gym. The Marriott has THE nicest gym I have ever seen at a hotel. They even have complimentary apples for the guests next to the towels and earphones. I thought that was really nice and I might have taken one or two. There’s filtered water in the gym, as well as lemon water. Lots of cardio machines, weights, exercise balls, unique machines that I have never seen before, spin bikes, etc. Even a room dedicated to spin bikes, kickboxing, and classes that you can sign up for (although I’m not sure if they cost money)! I definitely checked out the gym thoroughly, and found that the bathrooms have really nice lockers, bright lights framing the sinks, more towels.
tl;dr — Overall, I really recommend this hotel if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in SD. The parking was convenient (we paid a flat fee and would give a ticket to the attendants every time we entered), beds were quite comfortable, rooms were nice, and the amenities that this hotel has to offer — really amazing! The only complaint I would give would be to upgrade the bathrooms. The shower curtains could use a change, and it would be nicer to have the toilet be a little further away from the shower, just so you don’t smell any unpleasant odors while showering. You do get what you pay for, and you pay quite a lot to stay here, so obviously you would expect a lot from this hotel. The only thing I can say is … take advantage of the pool, gym, and get some apples from the gym!

The hotel is awesome. It is huge with very nice design and amenities. The lobby is huge and they have tons of sitting areas throughout the hotel. The check in was painless and friendly and professional.
The garage was $ 30 a day with in and out, which is typical. We had a bay view on the 21^st floor. It was such a great view. The room was great too. The sheets were soft and the pillows as well. The TV stand area was the wide kind with the dressers and a half sized mini fridge. It had the outlet thing where you can hook up anything. The bathroom area had nice shelves.
I liked the location since it takes you away from the noise of Gaslamp but within driving distance (5 mins). It’s still right in the middle of the action but still maintain the peace. The marina walk is 15 miles long so it’s a pleasant walk /​jog. The hotel gym is one of the best I’ve seen. They have free classes, a few free weights, and tons of cardio with individual TVs. They offer water, apples, towels, and headphones for free. We got a great deal by naming our price so if you can get it cheap than do it.

This hotel is all about location, view and class!
It sits right by the SD bay overlooking the water. Its pool is beautiful and huge. You are right by the gaslamp district. What else can you can from a hotel?
My stay was nothing less of fantasticness (if that is even a word). Hehehe. Stayed there for one night over the weekend and the whole experience from valet to check-​in to check-​out was just flawless.
Yes it is an expensive hotel but if you sign up for their reward card, you earn points for every night you stay there and you can earn free nights.:-)
I will be back to this hotel for sure! Can’t wait…
