Makeup By Mari

You can easily tell how passionate Mari is about her work. She took my comfort level with makeup into consideration because she actually cares about making her clients happy. In the past when I’ve had my eyebrows filled in they overdo it and my brows end up too heavy, but not with Mari. My eyebrows never looked so good!

I cannot say enough about Mari. Can I give her 10 stars? That’s what she deserves. I hired Mari to provide hair style and make up for my bridesmaids the day of my wedding. I hired some one else to do mine because I wanted airbrush for myself and to make certain there would be enough time for so many people. I had to do this blindly as we live in Sacramento and our wedding was in San Diego so I never got to do a make up trial. Mari showed up exactly on time 6:00 am WITH COFFEE FOR ALL OF US!
Mari did a fantastic job on everyone. All of my bridesmaids looked amazing AND… she ended up fixing my hair just before I walked out the door because my veil was already falling out and the other (more expensive) girl did not bring a wand to curl my sides. A million trillion infinite thank you’s to Mari. Please do hire her. You won’t regret it and she deserves the success in her career. She is truly an artist.

Mari is very sweet. Her daughter was well-​behaved and just watched Disney movies. It sounded like she’s not usually there when clients are. And her little Chihuahua was such a charmer. That said, we were here for hair and makeup on the cheap.
She did my daughter’s makeup and hair for prom this May 2015. My daughter has fair German skin and walked out looking like a burnt orange. I couldn’t see just how orange until we were under good lighting outside. Also, there was a ¼″ makeup line of demarcation around her entire face as the makeup didn’t go into the hairline (not even close) and didn’t go onto her neck, so she had an orange face and a white neck and white frame around the orange on her face. My thought is that you shouldn’t use dark, heavy bronzer on a pale white person with no tan.
I think another factor in the coloring was the lighting in the kitchen. It was rather dark, and the lighting was yellowish. While she was in the chair, my daughter looked heavily overdone, but said she was happy and I kept my opinions to myself as I didn’t want to make my daughter self conscious for prom. But when we got to the car and she looked at herself, she was shocked at how orange she was and how dark her brown eye shadow was. Even for an evening event, all of it was too dark!
Also, Mari agreed to do a waterfall braid for my daughter’s up-​do, but it was more of a generic twist and I could have done a much fancier and a prettier do… for free.
I think that with the tip and the cost, we probably got what we paid for — thankfully it was a gift from a family member and I didn’t have to pay (except the tip, which could have been less considering, but I tip well — apparently even when it isn’t earned,).
I see her photos here and on Facebook, and they look pretty decent.
Overall, this was discount hair and makeup that looked awful and that both my daughter and I worked on fixing after she got home. We won’t be returning for more. If there’s a next time, I’ll take her for a quality production in an actual salon with proper lighting and pay for it myself so I feel like I have some recourse.

Mari is a very sweet and patient MUA/​hairstylist who is committed to making you happy. I had Mari do a hair/​makeup trial and she adjusted my eye makeup several times until I thought it was just right. The final result looked just like the photo I was hoping to replicate. She is really good with hair and the updo looked great. I booked the trial before my engagement shoot and she curled my hair for the shoot, no problem. All in all, she is someone who will make you feel very comfortable and she is very reasonably priced. Definitely reach out to her before booking a trial with anyone else!

Mari Mari Mari. She did hair and makeup for my wedding for myself and two bridesmaids. She was very patient and has great skills. She did a wonderful job and I would definitely use her again. I felt so connected to her that I even invited her to come back and join the wedding later. If you are looking for someone for an event, do not hesitate to contact her. For a small trip fee she even drove to Los Angeles! Do not look any further she is the gal you need!!!

Mari came through for us at the last second. We had a photo shot and needed a hair and makeup artist. She showed up on time and was able to take quick direction and get started right away. She did a really good job with the punk inspired hair and makeup. I would recommend her for any occasion. Thank you baby Jesus for answering are prayers in finding Mari.

I made a last minute decision to get my make up done professionally in preparation for my 50^th B-​day dinner celebration with over 30 guests at Herringbones in La Jolla, I wanted to look smashing for my 50^th b-​day party. I found Mari’s Craigslist ad and liked her work but since I had never met her before, I was a little apprehensive. Mari was able to squeeze my appointment in the very next day and was also very flexible with my appointment time, as my hair stylist was running 2 hours behind which caused a delay in my appointment with Mari – Mari’s flexibility and patience was a big relief as I was already stressing out. I only had about 45 minutes to get my makeup done and I was unsure Mari would be able to get the job done in that time frame. She did inform me, prior to my meeting her that it will take her 45 minutes to an hour but an hour would be too long. I kept my fingers crossed. Mari worked pretty quickly without compromising quality. She is very particular and wants her work to be perfect. She would make sure she was on the right track with me by checking with me along the way and showing me what she had done with a mirror. Mari’s work was meticulous and flawless. I loved the look she gave me and was exactly how I wanted to look. I was blown away, it’s like she read my mind and we had just met. I was done in 45 minutes. Mari is very professional and very confident with her work. If I could, I wish I could make her my daily permanent make up artist. I was so glad I found her and will go back to her again and again. Thank you Mari for making me look so gorgeous and beautiful on my special night.

I am so happy I found Makeup by Mari! I recently relocated here and as a military wife, I have lots of formal events to attend and she always has me looking flawless! She takes her time to ensure you are happy with the look and is the sweetest person ever. I won’t let anyone else touch my face as long as we are stationed here and I’m planning on taking her with me when I move! :) Her prices are extremely reasonable and I’m just so happy with the way I look. She’s the best!

My bridal shower was on Sunday ⁰⁴⁄₂₇ and I decided that I wanted to have a makeup artist do my hair and makeup. A week before my bridal shower I searched craigslist and found someone but the Friday before my shower they cancelled. I got Mari’s name from a friend and she responded fast. She was willing to drive to my place early Sunday morning to do my hair and makeup. It looked incredible, better than I would have anticipated. While applying makeup she recommended that I look in mirror to make sure that my makeup was applied the way I wanted. I highly recommend her, she’s a gem!
