La Quinta Inn & Suites San Diego SeaWorld/Zoo Area

Stayed here for three nights for New Years. When we travel with our dog, we always stay in La Quinta so we have been to several ones in multiple states. This particular one is motel style. All of the doors are facing outside, which was a first for us. We are used to La Quintas being hotel style (hallways on the inside of the building). When we arrived at 10pm there was two parking spots left in the entire hotel, which I would say is limited. Especially since you have to pay a nightly fee to park. The receptionist said that every room has one stop reserved for it and not to worry. They must have been fully occupied that night then. The bathroom had the oldest bathtub/​shower I have used in a hotel. The shower curtain is the plastic one La Quinta always uses and it was so dirty/​old, I did not want to touch it after the shower. The breakfast here doesn’t offer many hot options, other than the waffles. We have stayed at some where there is eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy. This location does not offer that. The one thing I loved about this location is our room had laminate floors. I always wear slippers in hotels since carpet kind of grosses me out, but here the floor looked very clean. Lots of families with children and dogs so be prepared for noise. Our dog thankfully doesn’t bark when we are with him if surrounding rooms have barking dogs, however, when we left for dinner he joined the chorus. This was by far the noisiest hotel we have ever stayed at. Overall, it’s alright for a short stay.

Great hotel! You get a lot of bang for your buck! Service is awesome, breakfast is delish and the rooms are nice, definitely been renovated recently. I usually stay at 3 – 3.5 star hotels and while this hotel is rated as a 2.5 and I would definitely recommend it.
Breakfast is at 630 and I liked the waffles and hard boiled eggs, they allowed me to take food to go, so I was pleased with that.
Free wifi worked great, allowed me to work from my room.
I read through other reviews and I have not had the negative experience people have described. I worked in hotels for 15 years and I can say that my room (221) was not stinky or gross at all. It was clean and in good repair.

Rooms need work and updating. Maintenance needs to do a better job in taking care of the place. Served it’s purpose for work stay. Next to the fwy.

We stayed here during our trip to San Diego. It served its purpose while an affordable choice. Close to freeway and convenient central location. It was very quiet during the night. The room was clean and no strange odors. The room includes a refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast M-​F 6:30am-9:30am and Sat & Sun 7:00am-10:00am. Decent breakfast. Waffles, oatmeal, bagels, toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, mudffins, apples, juice and coffee.
Laundry room on premises, swimming pool and jacuzzi and free WiFi. The gym was under construction during my stay but chuze Fitness was available to hotel guests as an alternative. I was happy to have that option. The hotel is located very close to shopping, restaurants and a movie theater. I would stay here again when I visit San Diego

This La Quinta was fine for our one-​night stay though I have some complaints:
The pool — pretty small and it happened to be inhabited by four very annoying drunk people while we were in it. Also, the hot tub had a grayish color to the water.
Parking — seemed like there were enough spaces but they are so small and two rows close together that it made it VERY difficult to park in an open spot. The spaces need to be bigger to accommodate SUV’s and anything besides a compact car.
Lighting — The lighting in our room was very dim and the bathroom light was extremely dim when you turned it on and it would get brighter the longer it was on. Very odd.
Other then that the bed was comfy and the staff was nice.

We’ve stayed here twice with our pooch, and both times have been good visits.
For our most recent stay, we stayed for one night on Halloween in a room with two Queen sized beds.
Since we tend to travel with the pooch often, we stay at La Quinta because they are pretty welcoming with the pets. We were so very relieved to find hard floors instead of carpet. Brilliant for a pet friendly hotel! You just never know when traveling with your furry friends though, thankfully, our girl knew the drill. There are not a lot of areas to walk the dogs, but it was mentioned by the hotel that a lot of owners walk their dogs along the front of the hotel, and that worked pretty well. A couple of extra trash bins (and even those doggy bag dispensers) for those potty breaks would be super. Some LQ’s have more than others.
The room itself was pretty nice. Decent décor. The AC unit cooled off quickly and worked throughout the night. We had a small table with a couple of chairs, like a small dining set, a closet, and a bench/​valet. The space wasn’t huge, but we had enough space to maneuver quite comfortably, even with a dog sprawled all over the floor.
Having the sink outside the bathroom is a plus, in my opinion. The TV worked fine. Had plenty of towels, tissues, and toilet paper, and it was clean too. Beds and pillows were pretty nice and comfy as well. We definitely got a good night’s sleep.
Breakfast ends at 10:00 A.M. on weekends, and we managed to make it by 9:40. At that time there was still a selection of muffins, cereal, oatmeal, bananas, apples, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, waffle mix, juice, and coffee. There were signs of slices of toast, but they must’ve gone earlier. We took our stash and ate at one of the cute tables outside in the hallway since it was a beautiful morning. That was a treat.
We decided to take a dip in the spa/​hot tub before checking out. There weren’t many people there at all, which was nice. One of the information pamphlets from the hotel stated that towels would be available by the pool, but there weren’t any clean ones, just a few used ones hung about.
When we got in the spa, the jets were on, but all of a sudden, they stopped. There was time left on the timer, but we still tried to see if we needed to start it again, but nothing really happened, so we just enjoyed the warm water, which actually was kind of nice. With just a few minutes left before we needed to go back and start getting ready to check out, the jets started again. No rhyme, no reason. The timer was still ticking. We stayed a few extra minutes to enjoy. Sometime between 5 – 10 minutes, the jets stopped again, so we took that as our sign to get out. I don’t known what was happening, but It would have been so nice to fully enjoy the spa pool had those jets been working continuously. Nonetheless, we were able to enjoy it, and I’m glad we did because it’s an amazing was to relax and get ready to start your day. We didn’t use the actual pool though. Perhaps next time.
The parking garage spaces ARE pretty tight, that’s true, but as long as people park CAREFULLY and CONSIDER OTHER VEHICLES, then there should be plenty of space for everyone. The later you return in the evening, the fewer options there are. Plan accordingly. We used both garages. It’s probably best to go up the elevators there as navigating the stairs and walkways may be a bit uncomfortable if your room is a little out of the way, so try to park close to those, if possible.
There IS a $ 10 parking charge. For a moment, I thought we weren’t going to be able to get a parking space that night (since it was kind of late); the idea that the property charges this fee but there may not be spots for everyone was a little bothersome. Fortunately, we did find a spot (there were a couple of ones available, as it turns out), but I just wonder what would happen if the hotel were completely sold out and there weren’t any open spaces.
Nonetheless, we had a great stay. This is a great option for traveling with your furry friends at a fair price.

Eh. I’ve stayed in quite a few hotels. This one is definitely a 2 ½. Not terrible but not good. The homeless come into the food area in the morning and take what they want and leave. The rooms are set up weirdly so the workers push their carts around the outside of the rooms and make a lot of noise. Have to reconnect to the internet constantly. The electricity flickers when other things are turned on. Bathrooms are set up badly. They get too hot too fast because the fans in the bathrooms don’t work right. The parking is ridiculously compact. You need a tiny car to feel comfortable.

For our two-​night stay in San Diego, we booked our rooms at La Quinta. My brother-​in-​law said it was a step down from the place we had stayed at previously and from just the outside appearance, I can see that was certainly the case. The lobby is quite small, although I did like the easy access to the computers and printer, which was located behind the front desk.
The parking garage is underground and the lot is so tight that I felt very claustrophobic when we were inside of it. Our rental car was also an SUV so that didn’t help much either. Thankfully, there were some open lots out in front, so we just used those for the rest of our stay. There are only four levels to La Quinta and while we didn’t use the elevator often, when we checked in and left with our heavy luggage, the elevator was quite temperamental. We actually had to hold the button in order for it to move properly.
The walk to our rooms on the second floor was nice on the outside due to the fresh air, but once you enter the hallway, a disgusting sewer-​like stench hits you full in the face. I had to hold my breath until I got to my room. While everything sounds terrible so far, trust me when I say the rooms are MONUMENTALLY better. I shared a single room with two queen-​sized beds with my parents and the place is very clean. I personally liked the bathroom that actually had a clean, white tub and a ventilation system. The marble sinks were pristine and there were a lot of cubbies that held fresh towels. One complaint I would make is that I wish there were more racks for me to hang up used towels and clothes.
La Quinta didn’t provide many complimentary washroom necessities like soaps and body washes. We did get one bar of soup and one bottle of a 2-​in-​1 shampoo/​conditioner, but that definitely wasn’t enough for three people. The hair dryer was hot and strong, and surprisingly the water pressure of the shower-​head wasn’t too bad, but DEFINITELY not what it would be at home. La Quinta also provides free breakfast (my dad tried it and said it wasn’t great) and free Wifi.
So while the exterior of the hotel is certainly an atrocity, at least the rooms themselves were good. But for the price that we paid, I definitely think we deserved a lot better.

When I first waled into our suite I was really happy because it was a pretty good size for my boyfriend and me. The two workers at the front desk were nice. The location was good. It wasn’t too far from Gaslamp and other areas we were visiting. However, we had 2 problems. My boyfriend paid for the 2 nights ahead of time with his debit card and the hotel put an additional hold on his account and he wasn’t able to use his card the rest of the weekend because of that. The girl at the front told us it was the bank who put the hold. After several calls, it was determined that the hold had been placed by the hotel! They told him it would be a few days before they could release it. That was ridiculous! I woke up the next morning and I noticed I had been bit by something and it was itching. Same thing the following morning (the day we checked-​out). It turns out it was a bed bug!!! That was gross. I took a picture of it put it on a tissue and left it on the bed so they could see it. I let the staff and manager know and they didn’t think it was a big deal. The manager just apologized. I am NEVER going back to that hotel! I posted the picture of the bed bug!

Cock roaches… room seemed clean other then that. lots of kids running around in the parking lot. Really loud above you and outside. You will get bombarded with coupons from multiple pizza joints slipped under your door daily. Tv reception not good. they charge for parking which is crap. Not for us. We’ll find another place next time.

Not a four star hotel but we weren’t expecting that anyway so no disappointment here. The place is older and a little run down but our room was clean, the a/​c worked and they took my two dogs so we are happy campers.
It’s good to know that most La Quinta Inns are pet friendly so we will be using them more in the future.

2) staff was friendly
Bad: 1) worst bed I have ever slept in!!! Every time I even thought about moving the bed creaked. I have lived in a dorm for a year and slept in hostels all over Europe and have never slept on a bed this bad. It felt like a sheet was placed directly over mattress springs. When I asked about getting a new mattress we were told there were no others and dismissed. My parents who were staying in the room directly below us had a wonderful bed. I guess by staying here you’re playing a back aching game of Russian roulette.
2) the rooms have no sitting area. So if you want to sit in your room, I hope you have one of the nicer beds.
3) your room might not be cleaned until 5:00 at night. There seems to be no organization to the cleaning schedule.
4) the pool is green. If you have kids that want to swim and not catch diseases I suggest a different hotel.

Breath of fresh air! Non smoking hotel is the way to go! Came in from a long drive and was greeted with a smile! Got the family suite which was Awesome! Loved the space and layout! NO CARPET that was so wonderful! The nice pergo style flooring was clean and just a pleasure! Very clean room with good Clean AC units for San Diego in August you will want AC! The staff was very helpful and friendly they even helped me park my U haul van on the property! The Breakfast was very nice and the host working was warm and friendly! She made sure to help my Disabled mother to food and a place to sit! Isabelle you ROCK!
Wish we could have stayed a lot longer! Fun place for the family and the way they make you feel cannot be beat!
The other guests were on a positive happy vibe too it was a great experience!

Price was good. Close to the zoo, which of where we went…
Room cleanliness was fair… There was hair in the toilet and in the sink…
The walks are thin and there was a family next door who was loud…
The worst part is the «crib» I reserved for my baby that was actually an abused, play pen…
I needed to cover the bottom with a blanket you feel okay with lying my baby down in it. I’m sure they don’t clean it…
Parking is $ 10 per night… What hotel charges to park?!?
I would not recommend and will not be returning…
There’s a Hilton next door

$ 79 a night and dog friendly (no pet fee!) makes this place great in my book! My husband and I decided to take our dogs (labrador retriever and chihuahua mix) for an overnight stay in San Diego and we were a little hesitant on our stay bc of the Unilocal reviews. Luckily I was proven wrong. The room we were in was perfectly fine…2 Queen size beds one for us and the other for the dogs. We also had a mini fridge and microwave and coffee maker in the room. There is complimentary breakfast from 6−9am with a palette of choices — toast, bagels, muffins, make your own waffles, yogurt, fruit, cereal, coffee, and juice.
I know the other reviews were about the state of the room and such, but for $ 79 You’re not going to get the 4 seasons. We have timeshares and points at the Marriott but we chose this place based on their very flexible pet policy. No weight or breed restrictions and we were also allowed to leave them alone in the room while we went out for a nice dinner at night. Our stay was wonderful and if we want to take our dogs to the dog beach again we will definitely be staying here again.

So far, my clients are pleased with their rooms! I was able to get them an upgrade, King suite with 2 bunkbeds for their boys! The room is clean and the backdrop behind the bunkbeds is awesome!

Meh. I am not rating this based on expectations of a 4 star hotel (it would be 1 or 2 stars then). I am rating it based on budget hotel expectations.
Positives:
Price. It was $ 65 a night for San Diego. So not bad.
Free wifi. The sign in was a pain. But at least it mostly worked. Not great but it worked.
Breakfast. They include a free breakfast. Which is a money saver, specially for a family. They have hard boiled eggs, bagels, waffles, toast, cereal, fruit.
Front desk. They were competent.
Negatives.
Parking was supposed to be $ 10 a night (I actually think they never charged me for this… so that is good). But on principal, charging for parking downtown I get. Not in Mission Valley.
Location. It is kinda central… but not the easiest to get to and from, and you are mostly away from anything else unless you happen to want to buy a Chevrolet or eat at Benihana. There is a liquor store down the street, so that was cool.
Breakfast. I was looking forward to the make your waffle… but for some reason their waffle did not taste good. I managed a couple bites and gave up. Toast was fine. Coffee was pretty bad. So for me… breakfast was mainly toast and a banana.
On Saturday morning, there was a long line of people waiting to get the breakfast, which made no sense. Screw that… I drove to a place with amazing food (Naked Café) instead. Unless this is budget driven (and if you are staying here, I totally get that)… go to some amazing breakfast place instead! Do not waste your time eating crappy waffles! Hash House A Go Go. Pannikin. Mission Café. Café 21. Just google breakfasts. Life is too short for crappy waffles!
The hotel. All in all a bit shabby and run down. The front desk area was not too bad, but everything else looked to need a remodel.
The room. Small. Musty smelling and needed to run the AC all the time to get fresh air. AC was loud. Room was old and dated. Not enough covers on the bed so it was like only having a sheet over you. In-​room coffee was bad. One of the clean bathroom towels had stains on it.
So in spite of the negatives, still 3 stars because for a budget hotel, it works. It was not horrible (they can use that quote for marketing!) But if you want something nicer, look to Doubletree or some other options.

OMG! right off the bat, we got to the hotel early so we asked if we could go to the pool while we wait for our room the pool was green had no chlorine so we just SAT there waiting for about an hour then we went checked into our room first thing we saw was a dead cockroach on the wall then next thing a cockroach running underneath the TV the hotel room smelled like an old rag and the people that were staying there were complete trashy like ghetto I got my money back the manager there said nothing to me just gave me the money back no apology. and we left freaking disgusting!!!

This hotel is the reason why I will never consider looking for the cheapest hotel possible. This is the only reason why I am thankful for it. I generally don’t mind cheap hotels, but this one probably shouldn’t even be in business any longer.
The ceiling in the restroom was messed. The lighting made me feel like I was getting a sun tan in there. The lighting in the general living area of the room was god awful. The door to restroom wouldn’t close right. The beds would make so much noise when I would make the smallest movements. They provided us with the least blankets possible, very little shampoo, soap, and the worst facial tissue one can ever use on the face of the earth.
Please, if you are hotel management tell the owners to rethink the way they do business. This place is not up to standards. Worst parking ever, not to mention you guys have the nerve to still charge $ 10 a night!!! The service was «okay.» It is either management or ownership that needs to shape up.

Great place to stay… also very close to the train and the trolley system, the only downside, really, is that it does overlook the freeway.
Rooms are clean and nice to have the pool located on the inner side of the hotel (a bit more quaint that way).
We love that it is so close to the public transportation which is how we usually make our way to and around San Diego. Old Town is a fun place to check out; lots of good eats and shopping. Hop on the trolley system and you can explore even more of San Diego from this centralized location. Can’t review the parking or the fee for the parking because we never take the car.
Nice, clean, reasonable, affordable place to stay.
