La Jolla Writer’s Conference

They do this event every year and it is not just a writer’s conference, but also a place where you get to get real advice and help from the pros on your novel, your potential novel, writing as a whole, writing a query letter, writing a synopsis, or anything else writing related one can think of. In addition, you get to meet all kinds of fellow writers which is a beautiful experience for a more introverted writer like myself who tends to be very shy with these things.
I personally felt coming to this event was extraordinary and gave me a whole new perspective and set of knowledge on my writing and the concept writing as a whole. Going to this event has really made the whole ideal of the process of attempting to get published a lot less scary and has aided me as a young writer with some much needed confidence I previously lacked. Antoinette, Mark, and the others working here made the conference so much more intimate and welcoming then I ever expected.
My favorite activity to do during the conference was the late night read and critique with Mark Clements, it was very personal and allowed all who were there to get priceless information about their writing in their novels (we all each essentially would read out a chapter of our novel and then receive or provide thoughts and critiques about such). Mark really made me comfortable which was very helpful as I had never read any part of my novel aloud before this conference and was actually shaking the first time I read aloud.
Overall I loved this conference and will be DEFINITELY attending again next year. You just can’t put a price or substitute the level of personal and professional advice you are given from this conference as a writer. I really feel anyone who is writing a novel, has written a novel, or is even just thinking of writing a novel should attend this conference also no matter your age or experience. You just feel so welcome here and get so much information! :)
