We perform complete ASE Certified Master automotive repair and maintenance on domestic, Asian, and popular European models. We do not sell new or used parts. Specializing in electronics, computer and fuel systems diagnosis and repair, we enjoy solving those really tough diagnostic problems that no-​one else has been able to find! Whether it is one of our specialties, or routine maintenance and repair, we will do it all with the upmost care and attention. In the unlikely event there is something we choose not to do, we will find you a top notch referral, and may even be able to sublet the repair if you wish!

History

Established in 1957.

1957-​Phinneas Johnson begins Johnson’s Chevron at Ward Rd in Mission Valley, land now located underneath the I-​8 and I-​15 Interchange.

1961-Johnson’s Chevron is closed to make way for the new highway that will connect the «boonies» of La Mesa with San Diego where Interstate 8 then splits the many Mission Valley dairy farms in two. Phin opens his new facility as Del Cerro Chevron at the corner of College Avenue and Del Cerro Blvd.

1974-Phin’s son Jerry takes over daily operations and incorporates as Del Cerro Service.

1994-​Jerry passes ownership to his son, Mark.

1999-​Mark sells the Chevron Gas Station in preparation for relocating the Auto Repair portion of the business.

2001-​Mark reopens Del Cerro Service on Knoxville Street in the Mission Bay area, now as AutoHaven.

2005– AutoHaven moves two blocks to it’s new facility on Morena Blvd.

All the good things everyone says about Mark and AutoHaven are true. After his first attempt to fix my car did not do the trick, he deducted the charge and started over.
The next try did it and my car runs better than it ever has, it gets better mileage, and it stopped leaking oil.
I’m sold, AutoHaven is my car repair shop forever.

It’s very rare to find a business where they really care about making customers for the long haul. This is a perfect example of a shop you end up make your family mechanic. Mark is honest, detailed, and trustworthy. This is my second time using the shop, and for now all of my main repair/​inspections on our cars will be done here.
I dropped my wife’s car off, they fixed the issue for ($ 300) less quoted by others. He had a smog place complete the inspection, saving her the hassle of having to wait at another shop.
If you are wondering should I bring my car in for repair… yes you should, local business like this one deserve it!

We’ve been taking our cars to Mark for over five years. He’s honest, knowledgeable, diligent and sooooo fair. Today, for instance, he repaired our Sequoia’s back hatch latch again. Surprise! I have been to a lot of mechanics over the years. Some good, some bad. None as absolutely fantastic as Mark Johnson.
I have a terribly old Toyota Camry that had it’s check engine light on. I brought it in to Mark, and the computer error said it was a bad valve. We replaced it twice and realized it was not the valve at all. He did some serious searching and finally figured it out. He refunded me for the valve work I had already paid for and only charged me for what the final error was. He then took it up the street to have the smog test run so I did not have to make a separate trip.
Mark is the most friendly and honest mechanic ever, and I now refuse to take my car to anyone else!

Surprise! An honest mechanic!
An indicator light came on for my airbag, so I took it to Mark. It was just a glitch on my dashboard, nothing wrong, and the light went off. He didn’t charge me a dime for the diagnostic. :)

Not gonna make this a long saga. I was driving my truck home from work, and it sounded like there was a rock & iron crushing party being held underneath my truck. When I got home, I thanked the stars I made it, then proceeded to hit up Unilocal for mechanic recommendations, since I really hadn’t had to go to a shop for any major repairs in a few years. Johnson’s Autohaven was fairly close, and the reviews were stellar. I called them up and Mark (the owner) answered. I told him about my dilemma, and also that I was on a super-​limited budget (I had only started my job 2 months ago, and wasn’t making much at all.) He told me to bring it in to get looked at, and would do everything he could to make my car drivable on a budget.
Several hours later, he called me to tell me what was wrong, what was needed, and also kept the price manageable for me. Making the repairs affordable for me was simply amazing, since I was dreading that I’d have to spend close to a 4-​digit number. He told me what He could do right now to make my care safe to drive, and pointed out what I should get fixed (in the near future) as soon as I saved up some more money for it. I gave the go ahead, and got my truck back in great running form.
Mark is awesome! No-​nonsense, straight-​forward, and no up-​selling whatsoever. He tells you exactly what you need, and gives you suggestions on things that you would need for the future, without trying to get you to do it that day. His calm demeanor really puts you at ease considering the anxiety surrounding having to get your car repaired, and the fear of spending a ton of money for it. Trust, Expedience, and Honesty: those are the qualities you’d look for in an auto shop, and this place has them in spades. I’m definitely coming back for any other services I might need!

Another great review for Mark Johnson!
My 2002 Mazda Tribute has some miles and is showing his age. I’m just using it as a commuter car that will last probably another 2 years max. I came in here twice for little things that I expected to be bigger problems… Both times Mark said I was fine with small tweaks for under $ 200 to get me by. I feel like another shop would have upsold me and did work that I didn’t need yet. So surprising and nice!
When the time finally came, I came back to Authohaven to get brakes here in June 2014. Standard procedure and no problems at all. They even left this cute little note hanging from my turn signal with notes on how to «break in» my new brakes. Hehe!
This is an extremely trustworthy shop where they take your car seriously. I love that Mark takes the time to explain everything to me and doesn’t do any work to my car without me approving it first. It’s such a relief to have a great honest mechanic who does quality work at a great price! :-)

Mark Johnson is the most honest auto mechanic I have ever met and have had the pleasure to do business with! When you take your vehicle for servicing and/​or repair, you can expect to receive an excellent value. He doesn’t try to upsell you and won’t charge you an exorbitant amount of money for services performed. He’s beyond fair. He’ll also let you know what you can get by with if you’re on a tight budget. I wouldn’t dream of taking my car anywhere else!

Mark Johnson at Autohaven is great! He is 100% trustworthy. He will never do work on your car that he has not discussed with you first. He always lets me know what has to be done to the car and what can wait a little longer before I need to drop some dough.

Great place, honest and very friendly!
I’ve been there 3 times because my engine light would always pop up. I was only charged the 3rd time once we had clearly identified the issue and I finally had it repaired! Fair price too! My car runs great again! Thanks guys!
