JD Machine Tech

This is what you call a company standing behind there products I had a problem with the lowers I bought from them for some reason the uppers where not fitting right I don’t know if it was my fault not putting it together correctly so I called them they had the most amazing customer service they sent me a ups shipping label and fixed the problem with out any questions or finger pointing like other manufacture’s would have done.

I just purchased an upper from JD Machine. The fit and finish are top notch. There’s no tool marks and the finish matches my JD lower’s finish. The tolerances are well within mil-​spec. I ordered the part on a Friday. Since I’m here in California as well, the part came in on Wednesday the following week. It was a quick turn around and I’m extremely happy with my order. I’ll definitely continue to support the locals and go to them for my next project.

The best lowers for any AR build. Period. Super tight fit and the best finishes that I have ever seen. I have built 2 custom AR 15s and both run flawless. Customer service is great!

If you’re in San Diego and in the market for a good quality, reliable, inexpensive stripped lower or upper receiver, visit the guys at JD and take a look at their products. I first heard about them on forums and thought I should at least stop by and visit their store. When I got there, I asked one of the guys if they could give me a tour of the facility, just so I can see how they operate. They had no problem showing me around their work area, and describing the work that they do. He showed me where it all starts, with a block of metal, and all the machines it takes to come up with end products that are the lower and upper receivers. It was a nice surprise that I was able to see the process and really just sealed the deal for me. I ended up buying both the stripped lower and upper that day. I was also able to hold in hand both the lower and upper and made sure that they mated perfectly, which they did.
It’s been several months since I finished building the AR and so far, I have had no issues whatsoever with the JD products. To add to the assurance that they are a legit company, I saw that they also manufacture lowers for Noveske, which speak volumes considering the reputation that Noveske has in the gun industry.
Overall, I highly recommend their products. Good quality, well made, inexpensive, durable. To add to that, it doesn’t hurt that ‘San Diego, Ca’ is engraved on the side of the lower. If I decide to do more builds, this will be my first choice for receivers.

Almost all of my lowers are JD and I continue to purchase products from them. The past gun show I bought a couple of upper receivers for future builds. One of them didn’t fit too great so I emailed JD and Robert said everything was covered and asked if I’d like to mail one back for checking. I wanted to make sure the fit was good so I just drove down and worked with nahm. He acknowledged the issue and got me a new receiver that mated perfectly to the lower I brought in. All in a matter of 5 – 10 minutes.
Guns are finicky especially when put together by recreational gun enthusiasts. Tolerances are small and there are so many integral parts that need to function together correctly. I’m not surprised a lot of people have a lot of issues, however I don’t believe the majority of the blame should be put on a particular product like JD. The proper research has to be done to make a gun function properly.
I have 100% faith in JD and their practices

I bought a 5.56 lower and upper receiver about 9 months ago and have been waiting to put some rounds through the completed project before putting in a review. I’ve seen some other reviews (some are pretty old) about the time it took and the quality of the JD Machine products. I had absolutely no issues and I’m very happy with my purchase. The fit and finish on my upper and lower receivers are excellent. I have since bought 2 lowers from other companies that are noticeably lower quality in terms of machining and finish. The JD Machine build is my primo build
JD was recommended to me by a coworker and I would recommend JD to anyone else that asks.
Some guy complained about the $ 10 lock that was «slipped» into his bag; that’s a CA requirement, so he should be happy it wasn’t more expensive. The sales woman should have explained that so he didn’t feel like he was getting ripped off.

Let me start out by saying before this I was a huge supporter in JD machine, always wanted one of their rifles/​receivers, now I regret all of that interest I had in them. Here is why…
Again before I loved JD being a local AR brand name company and having a awesome logo, what was not to support. So finally I bought their JD 308 matching billet set and built my rifle from that. Had some issues took it to my local shop who said send it to JD have them see if their receiver is out of spec. Roger that. Spoke with Steve who is no longer employed there who was rude to say the least, his replacement Robert was actually friendly from the start.
But as soon as I stated the parts may be out of spec (with some research from JD isn’t uncommon) the tide turned and fingers started pointing but we finally agreed let’s send the rifle to them and go from there. Well after sending him the rifle he tells me ok it’s fine I’m going to send it back. And I said no you didn’t fix anything and it’s not working properly, basically the thing is beating it self to death and breaking detent pins and chipping buffers.
Long story short, it’s been 3 months and they still have yet to figure out the issue and I’ve been promised countless times return calls for updates but have to always call them once a week to get them on the phone. My rifle after 3 months is still in stage 1 of being repaired and they still haven’t a clue what’s going on. Just guessing at this point.
On top of it, the first call I put in to explain my issue Robert and Steve both pulled the oh well I’ve been a gunsmith for xxx years and who do you think you are?! Then explained my issues were common or normal and straight lied. Or have not a clue of how a AR rifle should function and not break during cycling.
I’m VERY VERY displeased with this company and VERY sorry I have them my money and own a rifle made by them now. I have never been so let down by a «guaranteed» spec company in my entire 10 years of shooting. I will never buy another JD machine product CA local or not. This some of the worst customer service I have ever received from top management and «gunsmith».
Ask around, this isn’t uncommon either. After having this issue and asking around I found JD has been known to have very unsatisfactory CS and very poor machinists. Very let down by this company. Also confirmed with many top gunsmiths in the SoCal area I happen to know and talk with, some of which turned down the job to replace Steve at JD which Robert was happy to accept the job for. They know how this company runs and wanted none of it.
Do not buy from JD machine until they change their entire structure and manufacturing process. You will regret you ever did if anything is out of spec or needs replacing. Trust me.
Edit: 6 and a half months. I received my rifle today with a new BCG. Technically the rifle is functioning. But the barrel is out of spec causing the issue. Which they didn’t figure out. They ordered a longer BCG to make up for the issue instead of find/​fix the actual problem. Either way it works but again their machining/​gunsmithing skills lack greatly.
The only reason this review gets 2 stars use due to Nahm being such a good CS rep and being understanding and ending this on a good foot and working with me the entire time. Other than that I can not support JD machine. I’ve been told his is a JD long time employee and one if the few who’s been there a while and knows how to handle customers and have any sort of customer service skills.

I’m a fan. Drove here from Bakersfield and purchased their 5.56 billet lower. Met Steve who was a real cool no BS type of guy. Also met Eric, who found out I drove from Bakersfield and offered to take me to the back and gave me a tour of their facility. Had to rain check it, but that was awesome they offered me that.
The only reason why it was not 5 stars… There was a female who rung me up and I saw she placed a cable lock in my bag. I did not think anything of it, but when I looked at my receipt when I got home, I saw I was charged $ 10 for the cable lock. If I didn’t live 4 hours away, I’d drive right back to refund it. She just casually placed it in my bag as if it was a freebie, she should had said something if she was charging me for it. Pretty upset about that.

I purchased a couple of rifle parts from JD a while ago. Their prices were great. But it was a bit frustrating when the parts I ordered were not finished being made on time and were delayed 2 months… not too big of a deal to me… at least they called and told me. Not the other way around.
Another complaint I have is the lower I ordered had a California bear on it (pictured in their brochure) with white/​red paint. When I received my lower it was not painted red/​white, just the typical flat black.

My credit card was immediately charged and was told my order would only take 4 – 6 weeks and was not initially concerned. Every time I called the company to inquire about the status of my order, I was told it would only take 2 additional weeks. After 7 – 8 months, I finally received my parts and was never contacted by the company directly to inform me that my order continued to be delayed. There are plenty of other AR companies that are up front and honest with their customers.

There stuff is great! Iffy review because they did not keep up with their promised time frames, And They are close to impossible to contact by phone

I couldn’t tell you if this place is awesome or not. Unilocal has their current address yet directions via Unilocal lead you to their old physical location. We drove all over hells half acre looking for this damn place only to realize we were in the wrong area. I’ve called their phone number I can hear the associate answer but they can’t hear me. Don’t know who’s phone it is but I’m over it.

What a bunch of whining b#@ches. All these fools that are hating shouldn’t be allowed to own JD products.
Anyone who has a clue of whats going on with the raw material shortages knows the deal here.
We are lucky these world class products are available to us.
Look, there is pricing to being «Bad» and if you are smart enough and lucky enough to own any of the products sold by JD your BAD. Show up at a range with a JD, AR and you’ll need to beat people away.
Simple, hands down they are the best at what they do. True professionals.
So you have to wait awhile for your parts…

Worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. Have been told another 2 weeks for 4 months now. I imagine the quality of the product is just as horrible. Will update when they finally get around to delivering.

I ordered a lower receiver from JD. I was able to pick from a few different roll marks they offer, which was a nice feature. No mark-​up do to increased demand. I will update this review when I get the product.

Only order parts from here if you enjoy being ignored, expect no one to answer the phones, return your calls/​emails, and have absolutely NO idea as to when your parts will be ready.
Ordered mid-Jan…was told 3 – 4 weeks. Guess what… I called today, April 30^th (and miraculously got someone on the line) and was told 3 – 4 weeks!!! Canceled my order on the phone.
The staffer was rude from the moment he answered to the time he said it would be canceled. Absolutely ridiculous. I’m sure I will be calling back numerous times to demand my money back from these classy individuals.
Funny thing is that I have ordered, and received 9 stripped lowers in the timeframe that I placed this initially from 3 other places!
I have no idea if they make great parts, I hear they are pretty good, but to have something that is great with crap service… guess where you’ll end up?

The new staffs are very rude and unfriendly. I gave it 2 star because before they moved, I had dealt with them and they were way better.
The new staffs, especially the front desk is what killed this for me. She just stared at me when I walked in. Then she had a machinist come help me. Which I find very rude.
Aside from their bad costumer service, I do love their products but I will no longer buy from them until something is done about it.

Being an AK-​47 guy and owning Kalashnikov’s personal favorite. I have been waiting years and researched AR-15’s. One thing I kept hearing is nobody manufactures a quality lower receiver like JD Machine Tech. Some of the most expensive companies look to JD to manufacture their receivers re-​branded under their name. So you get highest quality for some of the lowest prices (Every shoppers dream).
So what if you have to wait. If you are going full custom, you take your time and do it right.
They are currently running 24 hours a day to produce enough inventory to keep up with the demand. I understand that and can go somewhere else and buy another brand, but I want a JD to start my first and second build (I bought 2 lowers). I will be buying uppers and more from them as well. But had to start the process for the lowers in the mean time.
Best thing is they are a local family company. If you are in town take the tour.

After talking with a couple of their people at a gun show, and doing some research on the quality of the product and As much as I agree on buying local, I dont think I will ever go back to or support JD Machine
I went there one day to buy a lower, I asked the guy behind the counter if they could match Turners price which was $ 10 lower. He told me flat out «no we can’t, we need to keep our margin.»
So I left… In the parking lot, I figured I was already here, I’ll ask again. So I went in, the guy at the counter asked the lady in the back office (who I believed to be the owner) if she would auth. The price match, and she did.
I then get written up, and FORCED to buy a $ 10 lock on a LOWER!!!
I should of left but I got written up by the gorgeous blonde behind the desk so I bought 2…
10 days go by, I go in there with $ 700 and my receipt to pick up the stripped lowers and hoping for a factory tour And walk out with??? All my cash and my stripped lowers… Dude behind the counter apparently doesn’t enjoy his job and didn’t even suggest or recommend or try to up sell me on ANYTHING. I’ve worked retail and when someone asks me about something… it’s an invitation to sell them something… right?
Well I asked about a couple of different parts hoping he would sell me something and amazingly, nothing…
So if I ever decide there’s something I can’t live without from JD I’ll just go to Turners since they sell it cheaper anyway…

I ordered an AR-​15 lower from them at the San Francisco gun show. The staff working there was very friendly and knowledgeable. The lower itself is extremely high quality and fairly priced.
The reason why they get 3 stars is because I was promised my lower within 3 weeks from ordering it. On week 3 I called them and asked for an update, I was told that it would ship by the end of the week. I called again next week because I didn’t hear anything from them, and I was told by the same lady that it would ship by the end of the week again. Then NEXT week (at this point it was suppose to ship 2 weeks ago) I was told that it would ship by the end of the week again. I called back 10 minutes after hanging up and just told them I wanted to cancel the order because I was pretty fed up. At first the lady who answered said ok with no questions asked. But then she asked was I canceling it because it took so long. After I told her my story, she offered to ship it by next day air and give me a free t-​shirt. This time it was the owners wife who answered the phone.
JD Machine makes very good products that I would recommend to everyone. The owners clearly do care a lot about customer service, I just happened to run into the wrong person answering the phone. But my experience with them at the Gun Show was very good, and the product itself is excellent, I’m just a bit upset that I had to cancel 2 shooting trips and delay a camping trip because they did not ship it in time.
