Mike at Higher Level Sound is top notch. He DJ’d a wedding of a friend of ours in San Diego. We had so much fun and I knew he would be a great option for our wedding. I was hesitant to reach out since he’s based in SD and our wedding would be in Long Beach, but after some research I thought it’d be better to go with someone we’ve already had the heard with skills we trusted.
From my initial outreach to Mike he was quick to respond, professional and quick to respond. Our first meeting with him had was great! He was easy going, helpful and patient with us. Patient, because we had SO many ideas for music. Haha
The day of our wedding couldn’t have gone any smoother, even with an impromptu flash dance that was set up by my brother-​in-​law. From the minute the music started at dinner, until the last song — it was a blast. We opened up the dance floor pretty much the entire night (I didn’t care much for a bouquet and garter toss) and people didn’t stop dancing until the music went off. Our guests kept complimenting us on the music even days after the wedding.
If you’re looking for a DJ, we couldn’t recommend him enough. Hopefully we’ll get to party with him again sometime!

Nothing but high praise for both Mike and this company. Professional and courteous the whole way. It is easy to say that our wedding would not have been the same without them. Mike at higher level sound is amazing! From the first time we met up with him he was the perfect mixture of professional and fun! He provided us with a day of outline that we were in turn able to provide all of our other vendors. Our wedding would not have been as amazing as it was without such a phenomenal DJ! Both my MOH and husband had surprises planned for me and had worked out all the details with mike and he allowed for the perfect surprises to be delivered. Our play list was straight out of a story book! I can not recommend him enough!

First of all I work with in the wedding industry so when I enjoy some one’s work ethic and passion I tend to keep them around. I may even higher them as my own DJ for MY wedding. That is exactly what happened with DJ Mike Thomas from Higher Level Sound. With in the first 5 minutes of our initial meeting I knew he was a genuine guy who truly wants you to enjoy all the small moments on your wedding day. He was the sweetest and worked seamlessly with all other vendors. My husband and I used Mike from higher level sound as our wedding DJ and our experience was unforgettable. When we first met with Mike, we immediately knew that we wanted him to DJ our wedding. We loved all of his ideas and he understood and loved all of ours. This was important to us because we knew that Mike would be controlling the flow of the entire night. Mike made everything easy for us, we went in with a few ideas but really Mike did all of the work with little guidance. Even in all of the emails I received prior to the wedding, he was just as excited about the wedding as we were, which I loved! He truly cares. Mike also helped us design our entire wedding outline and ensured that we stayed on track the day of. Last but not least, Mike used his judgement to feel the floor ensuring that everyone was having a good time… I must say, I rarely saw anyone sitting. Thank you again Mike, you’re awesome!

Mike Thomas is amazing! After interviewing several DJs, we met with Mike and he was the one for us! Very professional, very knowledgeable. He is what you’re looking for in a DJ. The wedding ceremony and reception went off without a hitch!
We had a few songs we wanted to play and he incorporated them all very well. Not a single complaint!

There’s a reason why Mike Thomas at Higher Level Sound has received so many 5 stars… because he’s amazing at what he does! We were looking for a DJ and — especially with me being in a band — we were very selective as to who we would pick for our wedding.
After meeting with him, he really wow’d us. Not only is he a genuinely nice guy who you can tell loves what he does, but he really wanted to understand who we were, where we came from, and what our style was.
With just a few requested song selections, it was his responsibility to keep the party going all night and he delivered! We received multiple compliments about the music choices and how awesome the DJ was.
He kept in touch with us throughout the process, gave us advice on wedding planning, and was very flexible to our changing requests. He even handed us a CD at the end of the night entitled «The Soundtrack to Your Wedding» with all of the songs that defined the night — above and beyond any expectations!!!
If you’re looking for one of the best DJ’s in town, look no further. We are so happy that we found him and he was able to be a part of our special day!

We were interested in meeting DJ Mike Thomas after attending a friend’s wedding in 2014. After our initial meeting, we knew we had to hire him for our wedding. He was so professional, knowledgeable, all with an impressive track record. He was not only our DJ/​emcee, but he also acted as another wedding coordinator, working with the Day of Wedding Coordinator, and helping us plan out the entire night.

DJ Mike! Totally our favorite wedding vendor. After our initial meeting with him, my fiancé and I said «yup, awesome, check DJ off the to-​do list». Throughout the next 9 months Mike made a few contacts with us, made sure we were feeling good, and met us again on site to get every single detail down. The result was a fantastic party! Mike integrated both of our styles and music choices, filled in the rest that we had no clue on, cued/​announced all the main events that needed to happen, had an easy and appropriate presence on the mic, and most importantly kept the dance floor packed virtually ALL NIGHT. If you need further testimonial — um – — my 91-​year-​old grandma danced to Bringing Sexy Back. It was amazing. Thank you so much Mike! We had a blast. We are enjoying playing the soundtrack to our wedding and I am making Matt do our first dance again constantly ;)

A friend recommended Mike from Higher Level Sound to DJ/​MC our wedding in November 2013. Mike met up with us at coffee shop nearby our house to go over his services. He also followed through with us from beginning to end to make sure everything would go smoothly for the wedding. On wedding day, Mike and his assistant were on time to help set up. He was on par with our music selection. My only recommendation may be to either meet in person once again to go over our timeline and MC needs either right before the wedding or have him at rehearsal. Overall, everyone had a great time. I definitely recommend Higher Level Sound!

Mike is an awesome fellow who even though is DJ and lights, also helped us with some extra planning needs. Our wedding was in the morning through the afternoon. All the songs during the ceremony were right on the money. When it came time for the partying, nobody even knew it was daytime outside anymore… It honestly felt like Vegas or something crazy good. He made it such a good time. Pleased to have met & worked with him for our special day. Recommend him to anyone looking for an awesome DJ. Great job!

Mike ROCKED our wedding! We had a destination wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park and was facing the challenge of finding someone I could trust from over 300 miles away. We wanted someone who could effectively «feel» the room and play accordingly. We ended getting that and so much more with Higher Level Sound!
The ceremony music was exactly as we had selected and it was timed impeccably. We did not select music for the cocktail hour or for during the reception dinner. Instead we opted to let Mike play something appropriate (to «feel» the room) and it was amazing! We had person after person come up to us and exclaim that he was playing their favorite love or dance song. The other area where Mike was great was during the toasting as we chose open mic (eek!). We had several people come up to toast, but Mike made sure to move everyone on once the toasting session became long. He kept the flow going at just the right pace. I would very highly recommend Higher Level Sound as they went absolutely above and beyond my expectations.

Mike was perfect! He’s boisterous and fun to interact with at meetings and on the mic, but he knew exactly the level to be at for every occasion. He made our reception swing. He played all of our must plays, made our formalities work perfectly, and created a set list that matched our theme and the rest of the night like a glove. He even put up with my incessant use of the same jokes, never batted an eye when weird requirements were thrown his way, and took great pains to make sure that we got every song we wanted — and nothing we didn’t. He even took time out to leave the booth and check in with us during the reception, just to make sure everything was going the way we wanted it to.

Just had our dream wedding and couldn’t be more pleased.
We had found Mike here on Unilocal and after such positive reviews decided to give him a try. The phone interview went very well and with such great pricing we decided to make him our DJ. Mike listened, gave feedback, and always made sure we felt comfortable and confident with the process. He would go over above and beyond what we expected in terms of personal care.
He was on time and on top of all the timeline expectations and worked very well with the coordinator we had hired. We had a few odd musical choices, which Mike found and was able to incorporate in our day. He seemed excited and genuinely loving what he did.
He kept the party going and offered a great range of music everyone could dance to. Our guests had great interactions with him and he kept checking on us to make sure we were enjoying the day and it was everything we wanted it to be.
I would recommend him to anyone and feel confident he can deliver the perfect day to other lucky couples as well. Thanks for everything Mike! You rocked it :)

This dude was perfect! We saw him DJ our friends’ wedding and knew we had our guy for our own. He is very personable, flexible, and professional. He helped make our perfect evening end up that way, perfect. He helped so much with the logistics. And more importantly, he worked with us on music selection, which was huge for me since I’m a music guy. Sent him a ton of music I liked and he did unbelievably well in incorporating it, but in a way where he responded to the crowd as he saw best, too. We partied all the way til midnight, so you can tell the guest had a blast, more importantly. And for the price… wow, couldn’t have gotten a better deal!

What an amazing DJ and person. We kind of got him on late notice, but even with the hectic schedule and our slow responses, he brought it all together. His services was the least of any stress of getting the wedding together.
He went above and beyond in finding some songs we wanted and needed. He knew of all the songs we wanted and had great suggestions, but also ensured we were in control of what we wanted.
On the day of the wedding, it was incredible. He helped out in many ways. He worked great with the caterers and our schedule. The sounds were sweet, the setup was perfect and his DJ’ing was very smooth. Lots of comments from friends and family about his professionalism. The floor was bumping with dancing and never an empty floor. As a matter of fact we needed more space.
Prices compared to many… he beat! Thanks Mike! I don’t plan on using you for another wedding :) BUT minute someone asks if I have a DJ referral, your name and company will spout out my mouth!

My wife and I got married last month and had a fantastic wedding. That was due in no small part to the man himself, Mr. Mike Thomas.
We wanted a fun wedding more than anything else, with lots of people dancing and having a good time. Already over budget, we almost skipped having a DJ but after a strong recommendation from a co-​worker I decided to talk to Mike.
I am SO glad that I did! He had great attention to detail even before the wedding, making sure he could pronounce the wedding party’s names correctly, etc. On our wedding night Mike killed it and kept everyone on the dance floor. Guest after guest has told us it was one of the funnest weddings they’ve ever been to. Thank you Mike!

A co-​worker in San Diego recommended Higher Level Sound and Mike Thomas shortly after our engagement last year. His sister used Mike for her wedding and they couldn’t stop raving about him.
We drove down to San Diego a few weeks later to meet with Mike. Immediately, we «fell in love.» We booked him that day for our wedding (and he was the first DJ we met).
Mike is AMAZING. He’s professional, courteous, thorough, on top of his game, plays the music you want, and makes sure that you’re enjoying your day. He constantly checked in on us throughout the year to make sure we were good and not stressing out.
Leading up to the wedding, we spoke with him often. He had our wedding music planned to the T. Not one element was missing. He played the music we wanted, honored our Do NOT Play List, and made sure our guests were having a ball. Oh they were alright. :-)
When it comes to DJ’s, what I always tell people is … you know your DJ is awesome when the entire dance floor is PACKED. Mike had ALL of our guests on their feet from the time the reception started until the very end. Friends feet were aching DAYS after the wedding.
I highly recommend Mike! Give him a try. You won’t regret it.
