Haunted San Diego

I enjoy the paranormal that thought this tour would be something nice to do while I was visiting San Diego. My boyfriend and I went with another couple. Our tour began in Old Town and we were taken to a few locations throughout San Diego and were returned back to Old Town. The tour started in the early evening and ended a little later when the sun has gone down.
Our tour guide was Victoria and she was amazingly funny as well as knowledgeable. The bus that we took was well decorated with «spooky» items.
We were told about the history of the different locations and what made them so specially haunting.
We enjoyed going around San Diego and actually going into the different buildings, as well as being able to use an EMF device in one of them. Watching the fun «artifact» (a key) turn in Victoria’s hand was fun too!
Overall, we enjoyed the fun history, facts and the tour going around San Diego. I would recommend going, especially with a tour guide like Victoria.

This was our first ghost tour and it was great! We were very impressed. Victoria was very pleasant and entertaining! The tour was filled with interesting historical facts of San Diego. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend the tour.

I really enjoyed this fun and informative tour of historical San Diego. Our host, Dante was amazing and I loved hearing about the history and backstories for the haunted locations we visited. Highlights included visiting the William Heath House in the Gaslamp (both inside and out), Villa Montezuma in Sherman Heights and the Whaley House in Old Town. I have lived in San Diego for almost 20 years and I didn’t know some of these places existed. You can really tell that Dante loved what he does and really knows the history of each location. I would have enjoyed touring the inside of the Whaley House and Villa Montezuma and will do so eventually on my own. If you enjoy history mixed with a good ghost story, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended!

We went on a tour tonight and had a good time! Our ghost host was Rebecca, she’s a great storyteller and kept us entertained the entire tour.
Before booking this tour, be aware that this isn’t a «ghost hunting tour», you won’t be witnessing (intentionally anyway) any paranormal activity, it’s more of a historic tour of haunted places in San Diego. I thought this was a great tour and as a San Diegian I left this tour learning A LOT about the history of the town I live in.

So this was my bf and my first time going on this tour me and my bf wanted to go for my birthday we just wanted to do something different we didn’t expect much but we were wrong I honestly recommend this tour it’s really worth it. We got ((Rebbecca)) best tour girl she’s funny and gives a lot of good information she keeps you informed with everything. Best part is when we experienced some things that we did not expect I will never forget. I would do this tour again. Just recommend using the restroom before because there is no restroom and you don’t want to miss anything belive me

Dante was amazing. This was my second tour with these folks since I had some out of town pressure from a guest to recommend something local… and we were not disappointed! The tour is a little kitschy and tongue-​in-​cheek regarding the hauntings but that isnt a detraction. A relaxed atmosphere with a great storyteller and showman-​who knows the history and can convey an appropriate sense of anticipation will allow the mind to wander to the darker shadows. A scare will startle you in the moment, but true disconcertment happens at the edge of imagination when one lets the stories dance around their minds in the late night.
Imagination, history, and contemplation are what this tour offers and dresses it up in the trappings of spooky fun. If you are lucky enough to have Dante as your guide, then you are in for a ghoulishly good time and some fond memories.
PS: having heard the history of some of the places visited and knowing there are historical tours to be had for some of these locations has piqued my curiosity to hear the «daylight» tales from the «normal» tour guides as well. A good guide of any genre encourages further exploration and that is exactly what you get here.

I was hoping for something more authentic and frightening. I wasn’t expecting a scream key fob, cheesy soundtrack on the bus, stretched truths (the key… really? Yeah could it be rolling because maybe… gravity?), cat scares, and horrid over acting. Dante followed a cheesy, campy script and we were sorely disappointed. The «proof» at the end was certainly the last straw of total cheese. So, if you’re okay with over acted campy tours then this one is for you.

What a fun experience! Our host Dante was excellent in blending local history and the haunted stories. I really enjoyed seeing the various and diverse locations where hauntings occur. I liked the opportunity to use ghost hunting tools and the opportunity to share my experiences with other ghost hunters.
You can tell the staff really enjoy what they do and care about providing the best experience possible. The ghost van was well done!
I would encourage everyone to go on a tour with these folks.

This was my first ghost tour ever and it was a lot of fun. A few disclaimers, make sure you use the bathroom before you go because there are no stops. There is a lot of standing and walking, enough so to make my pregnant wife uncomfortable at times. They tell you upfront that they are not trying to scare you, rather inform you with interesting historical facts. I believe they did a good job of that.
Rebecca and VIctoria were our tour guides for the night. They are great performers and try to weave in corny jokes to lighten the mood. They take you to a few places throughout San Diego, even to places in the Gaslamp District. So if you do this tour on a Saturday night beware of the drunken fools making stupid ghost jokes as you pass by them.
My only criticism is that everything feels so rehearsed and scripted. I found the most interesting facts and stories were the ones they told when they were just talking to us naturally.

I did this haunted tour based other Unilocal reviews. It was highly praised, and since they tell you beforehand that the tour is meant to inform and amuse rather than scare, I was not disappointed.
Our ghost hosts were Dante and Rebecca who were rather animated and enthusiastic. Dante appeared the most knowledgeable while Rebecca appeared to be more in her training stages. Both however proved amusing and laced the tour with great detail and corny jokes.
The stops included a cemetery, two haunted houses, and a haunted hotel. We were allowed inside three of said places. Dante reiterated that the tour and/​or the locations were previously featured on TV.
If you plan on attending during the weekend, be weary that the tour goes through the Gaslamp, subjecting you to obnoxious Gaslamp-​like behaviour from onlookers.
I would recommend the tour to anyone looking to learn more about San Diego’s history and the history of the haunted locations.

Checked out the haunted tour last night with a few friends and had a great time. The entertaining Dante and Rebecca served as our hosts. I appreciated their wit and knowledge of the history of the haunted places that we visited along the way.
My personal favorite site of the tour was the William Heath Davis House in the Gaslamp Quarter. Dante forewarned the group that many visitors who enter the house often become dizzy or even throw up because of the «thick air» inside of the residence. I disregarded his warning and didn’t take it too serious. When I walked into the living area of the house, I did become a bit dizzy and felt an eerie energy. Perhaps it was just my pupils adjusting to the dim lights but I will say my mood changed just after being in the house for a few minutes. I would be lying if I said it didn’t creep me out just bit.
Dante and Rebecca encouraged the group to walk around the lower level of the home to take pictures and EMF readings. While I didn’t get any activity on my EMF reader, I did manage to capture an interesting green light (possibly an orb) floating around in a few pictures that I took of a woman’s black gown. For some reason I was drawn to the black gown, it had a different energy around it than many other artifacts in the house. (I have never posted pics to a Unilocal review so hopefully I can figure out how to link the pics to this review).
My biggest critique of the tour is that we did not get to go inside of the Whaley House which is proclaimed to be the most haunted house in America. While I knew this before buying my ticket, I think adding it to the tour would make the experience even better. It would have been nice to see more «evidence» or «haunted artifacts» of the Whaley House. My other critique (which is beyond Haunted San Diego’s control) is the loud atmosphere of the Gaslamp Quarter near the haunted hotel and the William Heath Davis House. The tour would have been a bit more creepy if it wasn’t so loud in the surrounding area (but it was to be expected since it was a Saturday night).
You don’t have to believe in ghosts or the supernatural to enjoy this tour (although having an open mind certainly helps). The history alone is very entertaining. My friends and I enjoyed the tour and I will definitely recommend Haunted San Diego to other friends visiting San Diego. Rebecca and Dante are great!

Had a great time on this tour despite the rain. Victoria kept us engaged for the full 90 minutes. I felt this was a tour of San diego from the haunted angle. Best part was getting access to the heath house.

This was by far such a great experience! Not only is the tour 2 hours but you get to take the tour bus downtown to the gaslamp and you actually go to many different haunted locations. You even get to go inside some! One place was definitely creepy for sure. We saw tons of orbs and I had some major goosebumps! Victoria was the tour guide and she was adorable, knowledgeable, and hilarious! We had a great time!

Best ghost tour ever! Leo our got host of the evening was super entertaining, fun, and very knowledgeable. Great locations and in the end of the tour he totally made a believer with his ghost proof! Definitely check it out!

Great experience! Get to know some interesting history about San Diego. Lots of fun and our ghost host Leo was awesome. He kept us entertained throughout the entire time. Definite must do!

Ok so for starters my guide FORGOT to tell the group that there will be no restrooms the ENTIRETY of the tour. I had a couple drinks beforehand thinking there must be a restroom somewhere during the 2 hour tour. Nope I was wrong — I needed to pee SO bad, and my tour guide pretty much just said «that’s too bad, you’ll have to hold it.» UH, are you serious? Pro tip: handle your biz beforehand. If you do forget, there’s a place that stops in downtown — go to Palace Bar it’s right around the corner from one of the stops and it’s super clean.
They are also SO deceptive. They tell you they’ll be showing you a haunted artifact — where a key turns by itself on your hand. I thought that was pretty cool until I found out that its FAKE from a staff member whose name I won’t disclose because he told me in privacy.
You only go INSIDE one of the 5 – 6 places you visit. It’s bullshit. For the others you’re standing OUTSIDE listening to stupid, embellished historical facts and corny jokes.
Maybe you’ll get a better tour guide, but mine sucked. I was disappointed and bored. Use your money elsewhere.

I’m not the tour type but enjoyed this one. The main advantage of this tour is that it is not limited to Old Town. The main disadvantage is that you do not get a tour of the inside of Whaley House, as it’s an add-​on.
I think what made this tour enjoyable was Victoria. She is a great entertainer on many levels. An animated, talented and enticingly alluring and ablaze woman.

We took the tour on a Saturday night and really enjoyed it! The tour guide was a lot of fun and had a lot of silly jokes but was so enthusiastic and a great storyteller. Loved being able to go into some of the locations, and loved how the van was decorated in a ghoulish theme! I was really intrigued by her stories and just had an all-​around good time!
P. S. the tour does allow for a Whaley House add-​on, which is basically just a ticket to do a guided tour inside the house, separate from this tour. But make sure if you do add this on that you walk to the Whaley House and make your reservation for the 9:30 PM tour earlier in the day, since the tours do sell out!

Took a tour on Friday night at 9pm with Dante. My dad made reservations about a week before and it cost us $ 35 a person plus a $ 7 processing fee.
We were supposed to meet up at 8:45pm at the Best Western in Old Town. We were running a little late from dinner and we were turning onto the street when we got a call from Dante saying we were late! Eek! Oops! Important: be on time!
We made it and we parked at the hotel ($ 10). We started the tour promptly at 9pm. Dante took us around to the Whaley house and told us some of the history of the house. Then, we boarded our coffin on wheels and started toward the Villa Montezuma. We got some of the stories about the first inhabitant of the house and the last inhabitant. There were some theatrics invovled =) We also found out that the house had been condemned 7 years ago, but thanks to the Friends of the Villa Montezuma (
) they are reopening for tours probably in January 2015! Can’t wait to come back and check it out.
Then we went toward the gas lamp district to check out the Horton Grand Hotel and the William Heath David House. We even got to go inside the William Heath David House after hours! Pretty cool!
We ended our tour at the El Campo Santo cemetery where Dante gave us definitive proof that ghosts exist!
Throughout the entire tour Dante gave us interesting historical stories, corny jokes, and dramatic story telling. It was a great, entertaining 2 hours that was creepy, fun, entertaining, and educational all at the same time. I’ve gone on several ghost tours (Boston, Providence, Salem, and Plymouth) and this is one of the better ones. It’s great because it’s both walking and a bus tour so you get to see a nice mix of locations. Dante was a very animated tour guide and you can tell he loves his job! Thanks for the wonderful tour!
