Gerald made a huge mistake on my state return which had I not caught it myself, it would have cost me $ 1200 in foregone state refund. I gave him a chance to rectify it, but after an entire month nothing had happened. At the end, I ended up asking him to refund me the money he had charged me to file my return, and called FTB and fixed the issue myself. Took me only a simple 20 minute phone call. Other than the general lack of attention to detail, he just came off as rather cranky and having poor people skills. I’m giving him an extra star only because he did give me a full refund on the money he charged me, which was the right thing to do.

Gerald was very friendly and helpful, answering questions I had about filing Schedule C for a small business.

I have been going to Gerald Cotes office for the past 7 years or so for my taxes. The fee that Gerald charges is extremely reasonable… so he is not making much money off of this process. We opened our corporation early 2012 (before we were merged under another corporation so it alleviated us of bookkeeping, tax preparation, etc) and we started with a no name bookkeeper who I must say made everything 100x more difficult for us. We were paying too much for unfinished services, she was inputting incorrect information, and we were charged several late fees. I found Gerald online and said let me discuss our business with him to see if we can build a relationship.

Gerald has been doing our taxes for a number of years. He is awesome. No matter what we bring to him each year, he always has the most current up-​to-​date info on tax laws, and he always finds the most advantageous way to submit. We’ve had some unusual situations over the years (early retirement, investment account changes, 1099 income, starting a business) and Gerald always has the answers. We are confident he saves us the most money possible, while staying w/​i the law. In addition, he is always available during the year to answer questions as they arise. We can not recommend Gerald highly enough. On top of all that, he’s just a cool guy to go visit (how many people would say that about their tax guy?)
