Excel Speech Therapy Center

My son seams to enjoy his therapy. Would HIGHLY recommend speech therapy and OT services with them.

Let me begin by saying, I love a team atmosphere! People who are not just doing «a job», but take the time to look into your eyes and recognize the mix of fear, uncertainty, hope, determination and love you have for your child and match that with a look of assurance that your baby is in good hands and we’re in this together. My son London started at Excel with Niki Rosner when he was 22 months old, over a year ago. At the time, he was just «at risk» for autism and my heart was broken as I had become familiar with the stressful world of a special needs child by caring for my 7 year old twin nephews (both on the spectrum) and London had lost almost all of his words, the ability to make certain sounds and his eye contact diminished terribly. My sweet baby was being sucked into a dark hole and we were losing him, fast.
Niki worked diligently with London and suggested I sign up for the More Than Words (MTW) class, taught by Brigid. I truly believe that there can be no real improvement in the lives of these kids without parent involvement and training and MTW proved to be an incredible program with principles and techniques that I use everyday and are helping London excel way after the program has ended. Brigid too embodies that «anything is possible» spirit. These women never made me feel alone or like I was asking too many questions (I ask A LOT). They are knowledgeable, yet warm, inventive and they take your child’s progress seriously.
With ALL of that being said, I can proudly say… I have a TALKER on my hands! London just turned 3 about a week ago and the child I now have before me has emerged out of the darkness that had started to consume him as a vibrant, happy and energetic preschooler. Though, he was officially diagnosed with autism, my husband and I have nothing but hope for London’s future. My baby boy’s eye contact is great (comparable to an atypical child). He has regained his words! London can complete 4 – 5 word sentences and makes requests spontaneously. He plays WITH me (not alone or parallel to me) and he seeks me out for attention. London can even READ! Not memorize… READ…he’s sounding words out and shows me that he understands the context. It’s amazing. Just over a year ago, I didn’t know if I’d ever hear my son call me «Mommy» and the child I have before me is nothing short of a miracle. Niki and Brigid never promised a miracle or a «cure», but they did promise to use proven techniques to give London a fighting chance. That along with parent education, the willingness of my husband and I to apply the tools daily and a caring environment at Excel are the reasons we have hope for a better tomorrow for London. I’ve sent up many a prayer on my son’s behalf and I can honestly say that Niki, Brigid and others like them are proof that God is faithful and He is listening. We still have a long journey ahead, but my husband and I are determined to stick with Excel to further London’s progress. I would suggest Excel Speech to anyone.

My son is seen in the San Marcos location by Brigid. She has been absolutely wonderful, and the improvement in our son over the past eight months has been astounding.
We’d previously been seen by a different speech therapy group in San Marcos, and it was a completely frustrating experience with delays in scheduling and poor interaction between my son and the therapist. Not Brigid. We had regular appointments set up immediately, and our son loves playing with her, never knowing she’s actually doing exercises with him.
I highly recommend Brigid. She’s fabulous.

The more than words program is just what I needed to engage and help my son to improve his speech. Every information they give you can be use all the time everywhere and even it has become a natural way to communicate with my son using all the strategies they thought me. I’m so thankful because thanks to this program my little is doing better. When I first started this program my son couldn’t answer yes and no questions, our play was just crashing trucks. After 4 months we’re working on who what where and just started why questions and our play is more pretend which has been something very difficult to do for my son for a long time. I learned to know where my son is right now in playing, in reading books, in commmunication and that gave me exactly a way to know which are my goals for the next step.

I cannot say enough good things about our son’s speech therapists, Nicole Rosner. She has been providing one-​to-​one speech therapy twice weekly to our boy for nearly three years. We are sad to have to end our services with her due to a change in our insurance. I feel like I’m losing a speech therapist (for my son) and a great friend too.
When I first brought our young son to Excel Speech, newly diagnosed with autism at 18 months old, I was in desperate need of someone who could help our little guy to communicate with us, to tune in to what we and others were saying to him and to be able to tell us how he feels, what he needs, and what he wants. From the first therapy appointment until now I have been impressed again and again by how hard Nicole works. She is highly energetic and enthusiastic, not to mention very patient. Nicole took on the challenge of working with our son in a play-​based setting and quickly won him over. She has been dependable (never missed any of our 250+ appointments!), trustworthy, respectful, and always professional. I appreciate the feedback she provided immediately following my son’s sessions. Somehow she always found something positive to say even if he had been difficult that particular day.
Nicole has gone far beyond just helping our son speak and listen better — which in itself is a miracle! But with her constant investment of energy, love, professional know-​how, and creativity, Nicole has helped him to enjoy life more. Our son’s improved communication has improved our family dynamics and strengthened the bond between him, me, my husband and our other children.
During the time that our son received speech therapy at Excel Speech, he also saw a second speech therapist, Amy O’Loughlin, for about a year. Amy was great at engaging Joseph and keeping him on task. Her approach and style are different than those used by Nicole, but were also effective in getting Joseph to interact, sing, and speak. Amy is smart and friendly. You can tell that she is very invested in the children she sees. I felt like she was and still is excellent at communicating with parents and utilized various techniques to help our son progress in his therapy goals. She welcomed me to observe anytime I wanted and showed interest in any questions I asked and comments I made. I liked the way Amy and Nicole worked collaboratively on our son’s progress reports. I got the sense that behind-​the-​scene they were very on top of reporting deadlines and paperwork required by our insurance company. Their work minimized my stress and kept me from having to worry about pursuing his re-​authorizations from our insurer myself.
As for Excel Speech, I found the company to be well-​run and efficient. I never had billing problems and got along well with Dana and the other front office staff. I appreciate that their waiting room was available for me and my other children while our son received therapy.
