Excel Smog

I was in and out in 20 minutes. Hiep has smoged my truck several times now. They are VERY friendly and I would recommend this place to all of my friends. Thank you!

I just had the pleasure of having my old van smogged by excel smog. it is always so nice to
see the smiling face of the owner, heip nguyen. he always remembers my name!!! he is
very fast and professional. a very good communicator. I have been going to him for at
least 10yrs, and refered him to many friends. I always enjoy my time with him. I know
that the smog check is a bummer. but he is in north park, and he get’s the job done. so
go check him out. oh, by the way I passed my smog check! mikie t.

It’s easy to miss this place on the corner, but on a Thursday morning I was able to have my car smog checked within 30 minutes. When I pulled up, there was already one in progress. When it was my turn, he promised it would take about 15 minutes and that it did! The reason I’m giving this 5 stars is because people don’t typically need their car smog checked that often, so if you need it you want someone who is thorough with good customer service.
The man was super friendly, pointed out all the information I needed on my receipt and when you take your DMV letter, he is able to scan it so it’s sent right away. You might want to make an appointment if you’re going at peak times or days, but this whole process was efficient and I always enjoy a friendly face, especially when it has to do with anything involving my car.

Having to get a smog test is almost like going to dentist — you dread having to get is done. But having a great place to have your smog test performed is like having a great dentist (which I do). I’ve been having my many vehicles smog tests performed with Excel Smog for about the last 12 years. Always a pleasure to do business with — Hiep is very personable, honest and on point. HIghly recommend Excel Smog when your vehicle gets the dreaded «smog test due» from the DMV.

No one WANTS to get their car smog checked, but Hiep and his friendly wife make the experience much better. I’d gone in originally but the Check Engine light was on, and instead of doing the test anyway (as other places might have done), Hiep was super honest about the situation, told me the error, and told to fix it and return when the light was off. He remembered me about a month or two later and was as friendly and nice as the first time. They’re priced right, have clean and easy access facilities. This will be my go-​to place for future smog checks! Thanks Hiep!

I have gotten my cars smog check here two times now and both times I’ve had wonderful service. Hiep, the owner, remembered me two years later and was grateful that I came back. He does a fantastic job in a timely manner. It is quick and inexpensive! I recommend this place to anyone!

Looking for a place to smog your car? Look no further than Excel in North Park, Hiep is the man to see. He knows his job and is fair and honest and fast getting you in and out. I have been taking my vehicles there for the last 8 years and I can’t of a reason to go anywhere else.
He will be quick to offer you help to diagnose and recommend what could be at fault if your check engine light comes on, in many cases saving you lots of needless expenses.

I’ve been having my car smogged at Excel for nine years (as long as I have owned a car in San Diego) and I will go nowhere else. The owner (Hiep) is very friendly and knowledgeable. He always remembers my name, even though I only see him every two years.
The price is right and has not gone up in the nine years I have been an Excel customer. I discovered them while living in the neighborhood in which they are located. I have since moved several times and currently live in Mission Valley West, but always make the trip back to Excel to have my car smogged.
If you want friendly, thorough, inexpensive service; look no further than Excel Smog!

This is the best place to get a smog check in the North Park/​City Heights area. Fast, professional service at a very competitive price. They only do smog (no repairs) so there’s no up selling of any sorts. Hiep is a really funny, personable guy too!

I went in with a Check Engine light on, 2 mechanics wanted ~$ 100 to diagnose the engine codes.
I failed the smog check but the gentleman at Excel Smog also pulled the codes and told me exactly what it was and what parts to replace!
So I bought and installed the parts myself ($ 70 vs $ 300+ from a mechanic) and the check engine light went away.
When Excel Smog retested my vehicle, I passed!
Great to have an honest and truly knowledgeable person!
Price was competitive and they now have a smog customer for life!

For some reason I had to smog my car 2 years in a row so I ended up here due to proximity to my place. When I arrived the guy working there was finishing up the car before me. I could barely make out what he was actually saying but he was very nice and in a good mood for no apparent reason which was cool. The waiting area, which is inside the actual shop, has the back seat out of a van and additional chairs for watching tv, which was on Travel Channel! It was pretty cool to be able to actually see whats going on with my car and whats being done. The actual smog test on my car took about 20 or 25 minutes but it went by quick because I was watching one of my favorite shows, Bizarre Foods. Thank goodness I passed, $ 50 out the door. I’ll definitely come back when the DMV makes me.
