History

Established in 2003.

I have been a DJ since 1993, but in 2003 I took the plunge and went full time. Since then, my wife has also become a full time wedding planner. Between us we have won several awards and been lucky to have a very successful business. We offer great packages when you book us both. We pride ourselves on giving at customer service and listening to what the client wants. As a DJ, I am not at all a typical ‘wedding DJ’ the event is not about me, it is about you, my style is not to force people to do something they may not want to do, I let the music do the talking :-)

As well as DJ & Emcee services, I also offer Up lighting, Dance Lighting, Monograms, Slide Show preparation, Projector and screen rental and many other things. Everything is listed on my website, which also includes a lot of other information, including pricing, that I hope you will find useful.

I moved to America in 1993, having spent 6 years in the British Navy. I visited America and fell in love with this great country.

I am very passionate about music, and with that I am very passionate about my job. I left a job as a corporate vice president at a brokerage firm to do this full time and I haven’t looked back. I was once told by my boss that if money is your motivator, you will not be successful, but if you love what you do and it shows, then success will follow. I am the luckiest man alive to do a job I love, and be successful to the point that it is all I do.

We got so lucky with Mick and his wife Julie for our wedding. The best combo out there for wedding DJ’s and Month of planner. We meet with them about 10+ months before our wedding to discuss music and ideas. Mick was so happy and enthusiastic about getting to know us and our needs. We talk music, lights, special requests etc. We knew after that one meeting with him, that he was our guy. We picked out all the music from his site which included a simple to follow guide. Its great, all you do is go down the list and select the song you want for every event, Walk in Music, first dance, wedding party etc… I think we made a few changes very late on, but Mick was on it accepting the change and making it all come together. When my wife and I walked into the reception we were so happy to see everything setup perfectly and music just playing and everyone having fun. All the timing of the events and music were spot on and everything went off without a hitch. I had a lot of family come up to me during the reception telling me how nice and friendly Mick was to everyone there. That made us very happy to hear. I know some DJ’s just sit in the corner behind their booth all night without interacting with the party. Mick was perfect! We couldn’t ask for a better team. Thank you guys!

I had never hired a DJ or wedding coordinator before this, but it sure feels like we got the best ones. Though Mick was not intimately familiar with many of our favorite artists, he was very committed and enthusiastic about making sure our playlist reflected our style. Mick and Julie were very organized and, especially upon meeting them, I felt confident that they could easily troubleshoot anything. They gave great suggestions on how to get the party going and had general expertise. Also, they seemed very calculated when it came to which information they told us ahead of time vs. which instructions they gave us on the in the moment. They didn’t ever overload me. Our party was dancing all night. They followed all requests entirely. They helped us make quick decisions. Best party ever! I wish I was getting married again!
In addition, they took some super awesome pictures that they sent us via a nice slideshow to a recording of us singing karaōke. They actually recorded the entire event and for $ 200 they sent us a CD of recordings from the highlight moments of the night, including the whole ceremony and all of the toasts; A DVD of the aforementioned slideshow; a CD with all of the aforementioned photo files from the slide show (and this was very soon after the wedding, long before our professional pictures got back); and CDs of the music from various parts of the wedding –cocktail hour, dinner, reception. Each disk had a picture of us on it.

Mick was awesome to work with as our wedding DJ in May 2015 at Scripps Seaside Forum. He played all the songs we wanted him to, and did a great job reading the crowd as well. Before dinner he came up to us and asked if he could play more oldies as he’d noticed the guests were into that during cocktail hour (which was fine with us but we didn’t really care either way) and when he started the oldies set our guests, both young and old, went nuts. Everyone, from our college friends to grandparents, kept complimenting us on the music, and the dance floor was full almost the whole night. There was a great mix of oldies, new music, and random other songs that we had specifically requested and were meaningful to us. The only (really, the only!) thing I would have changed was that he put some of the less-​popular-​to-​dance-​to songs back to back, and I might have preferred to mix it up. Mick does have a strong personality but definitely knows what he is talking about when it comes to music and ensuring that you and all your wedding guests will have an amazing time. And the next day he already had a slide show up on the website so we could re-​live it all again!

Mick was AWESOME! I met him at a bridal convention and rather than sell me on everything he talked to me about the wedding and got to know me. He told me to make sure I brought my wife to meet him as well. He was very personable and answered every email and met with us several times. He made sure we knew what we wanted and he made it happen. The day of the wedding Mick was there early setting up and it went better than we could have imagined. It was like having a friend DJ our wedding. In fact, we now consider him a friend! We talked and he always made sure our guests were having fun. Take his advice! He really knows what he’s doing and how to read a crowd. I can not say enough great things about Mick and Elite British DJ service. Out of all our vendors, Mick was by far the absolute BEST choice we could have made. Thanks MICK for making our wedding one we will always remember!

Mick was our 2nd vendor (after the location) that we chose for our wedding (about 15 months in advance). The DJ is THE most important part of the wedding! We wanted to make sure we had a great party and we sure did. Once we met with him we knew he was the one! He is the king of the industry! He knows his stuff and he knows how to please a crowd! People are still raving about the DJ from our wedding.. We had a very diverse group of guests. We wanted people to enjoy themselves and have a great time– the music was spot on from start to finish. We left the majority of the playlist up to Mick. For the majority of the wedding the dance floor was packed! He was able to read the crowd and play music that got everyone up on their feet! We hired Mick for our ceremony and reception. He has so many different ideas that it was hard to chose just one! Even when our best man’s speech went off the deep end, Mick was there to save the day. With our cue to cut the the mic, Mick was there with Oscar Music to save the day. The group laughed and so did we! In ending, we have had the opportunity to witness Mick in action again at our friends wedding. Again, he blew our minds! He is such an amazing DJ. I keep recommending him and will continue to recommend him. You need to book him! You will not be disappointed. I still have guests saying «You’re Dj was amazing» and «The music at your wedding was awesome». Book him! We are so glad we did!

My daughter got married at the end of March at the Darlington House in La Jolla and Mick was on their preferred vendor list. I have to say, hiring Mick was a no-​brainer for us. He KNOWS music and how to get the guests moving! He was able to «read» our guests and knew just what to play for our particular crowd. Mind you, we had a dry wedding! But that didn’t stop our guests from having the best time!
We heard so many compliments from our guests at the wedding and the days afterward that my daughter’s wedding was THE best wedding they’d ever been to and that Mick was THE best DJ they’d ever heard! He really knows his stuff and even gave us some pointers on some small touches that would make the wedding even better – a basket of flip-​flops was one of his recommendations and was a huge hit and made it easier for the women to continue dancing until the very end of the evening.
He really is the best! Hire him!

Absolutely could not have been happier with Mick as the DJ at our daughter’s wedding. We wanted our guests to have a good time and enjoy dancing and that is exactly what we got. I am still in shock that my 79yr old mother was up dancing most of the night and was even up at midnight for the last dance. Mick was not shy about letting us know that some of our music selections might not have worked. We ended up going with his suggestions and I have to admit that he was right. I am quite certain that we could not have chosen better.

Mick was really great to work with from the first phone calls to the big day. We planned our wedding from out of state and he made it to every requested meeting at our venue and walked us through tons of music selections, lighting options and recommendations until we had everything figured out. He helped us choose our bridal party processional song (which we have received so many compliments on) and provided the lighting, as well… which was stunning. His suggestions for the reception were a hit, including making a ‘do not request’ song montage with a special nod to the best man which got a LOT of laughs. Thank you again, Mick!

Mick is Amazing! We got so many compliments from our guests on how great our DJ was! He is full of energy and so much fun. From the moment we met him we knew he was our DJ. My husband is so much more into music than I am so I left a lot of that aspect of the wedding to him. We met with Mick twice prior to the wedding and he was receptive and responsive to our thoughts and ideas. We got married in Coronado on May 31 and hired Mick for our cocktail hour and reception. He also made our monogram and did our blue uplighting. The room looked absoluetly amazing! The lighting and monogram really put the finishing touches to our beautiful ballroom.
Not only was the music and lighting perfect but Mick continued to amaze us after the wedding. The next day he posted a video on FB from personal pictures he took of the wedding with our first dance song playing in the background. That was such a pleasant suprise! And to top that, when we got home from our honeymoon we had a package in the mail with a copy of that video, the pictures and audio of the bridal/​grand entrance and toasts. Oh and before the wedding he gave us a copy of what he would play during the cocktail hour since we’d miss it. He really went above and beyond our expectations. He was so much fun to work with. We highly reccommend Mick!

Mick is simply the only choice we could have made for our DJ. We read his reviews and researched his website and decided immediately after speaking to him that we needed to have him as our DJ.
Not only was the reception a complete success, the entire wedding was soundtracked by a playlist that Mick customized to our personalities.
The ceremony began by playing a Vitamin C Orchestra rendition of Don’t Stop Believin’, my groomsmen and I walked to our places to the chorus of Danger Zone, and my wife walked down the aisle to her favorite song from The Princess Bride. All of this went down in perfect transition. At the close of the ceremony, we all walked back down the aisle to Happy by Pharrell Williams.
The soundtrack to the rest of the night was all done via a playlist of must plays and do not plays that Mick went over with us days before our wedding. Even if he didn’t have it on his list, he found a way to add it to his complete catalog of music.
Our guests raved over him. The night was full of great music and fun segues to the first dance, bouquet/​garter toss, cake cutting, anniversary dance, mom/​son dance, etc. One of our guests even came to me and said he had never seen a dance in any wedding he’d ever worked in the past that involved the ENTIRE group of guests. Yes, immediately, after the first dance, Mick plays a song of our choice to get the party started and get everyone onto the dance floor… even before dinner service! Great touch.
We are completely happy with the service that Mick provided and would recommend him a million times over again to anyone getting married in San Diego. That and his English accent is badass!!!

We found Mick through our wedding coordinator, Julie (his wife). We were originally considering just renting speakers and doing our own music, but were so glad we went with Mick! He had great, unique suggestions for song choices. So many of our guests complimented Mick on the music he played and how fun he was. Having a DJ definitely made the night move along smoothly. He arrived to our venue in a timely manner, dressed professionally, and worked seamlessly with our other vendors and flexible timeline. He played a terrific variety of music– every guest made it out to the dance floor at least once! While not every guest is a «dancer,» he kept a solid group out there all night. He was responsive to requests and even initiated a dance off between guests!

I echo everything all the previous Unilocalers have said & would give an extra star if I could! I didn’t use Mick for a wedding, but rather a large corporate Holiday party. I was a bit hesitant to sign a DJ who’s reviews were primarily based on wedding DJ services, as a corporate event can be a different animal, but once we met him I had no reservations at all. Mick played a great variety of music, helped us promote our charity based fundraising initiatives through out the night & helped us create a seamless, memorable event overall. One of the things we walked away with, is Mick will definitely be our DJ again for this year’s party.

Mick’s enthusiasm for DJ’ing is amazing! My husband and I had no doubt who we were going to hire for our wedding DJ after talking to Mick. Because we do not live in San Diego, we had our first meeting via Skype. About 2 minutes in to the meeting, it was obvious that he loves what he does and puts 110% in to every event.
Mick has a ton of knowledge about music, San Diego wedding venues, the best way to set up rooms, weddings in general, etc. We were totally confident that he was going to make our event a success and we didn’t worry about a thing! As for the music, Mick has an online system where you can request songs for your event, which makes planning a breeze. He gives suggestions as needed, but totally respects your ideas.
The day of the wedding, Mick provided the music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. Everything was seamless! We hired Mick along with his wife Julie (Wedding Coordinator @ The Best Wedding for You) for our wedding. They made an amazing team! You can’t go wrong having Mick as your wedding DJ!

Mick was our DJ for our wedding on 9÷21÷13. Mick was absolutely amazing and a true joy to work with. He truly loves what he does and it shows!!! I am still receiving compliments from guests regarding how awesome he was! My husband and I both received so many compliments at our wedding and at our day after event from our wedding guests. The dance floor was always full. Also Mick was able to keep my husband dancing the whole night and I can’t even get him to do that. :)
Mick adds several personal touches that really made our wedding even more special. The music that Mick recommends is super unique. He introduced us to a lot of artists we were not aware of that we’re absolutely perfect! He also plays unique music for the pre-​ceremony music, cocktail hour and dinner based on the music and artists we like and ones he picked and it was perfect! We got a lot of compliments and we truly enjoyed it.
He tailors his music to the couple as well as adding in his expertise to ensure the guests are always having fun!
I highly recommend Mick! My advice is listen to his advice and be open to his suggestions … He definitely knows what he is doing and does a better job than I could even imagine. His suggestions were definitely spot on and so helpful!
I also highly recommend hiring his wife (Julie from The Best Wedding For You) as a month of wedding planner. She is amazing as well and they work beyond well together! They both charge very reasonable prices as well!
Mick also posted a blog about our wedding and a video on vimeo of all of our pictures with our first song playing. He posted all of this before I even woke up at 8 am the next morning!!!
The video made my mom cry (tears of joy of course) and I was so happy to get to see a glimpse of some of the details I worked so hard on and see how much fun everyone had on the dance floor!!! It was so wonderful to see it all so quickly!

The main goal of our wedding reception was for all of our family and friends who had come together for our ceremony to have as much fun as possible in celebration of our marriage. If your guests having as much fun as possible is a goal of yours, wedding related or otherwise, then Mick is the DJ who will make that happen.
We first met Mick at a wedding bazaar and he immediately set himself apart from the rest of the DJs we had interacted with at the event. While Mick is very professional he does not treat DJing as his «job», it is his passion and his personal excitement for what he does and his desire to make our event as incredible as possible began to shine through from the very start.
We had a couple of meetings with Mick prior to the wedding day and were impressed throughout the entire prep process. In addition to his passion Mick’s experience had him bringing us one brilliant suggestion after another. While Mick shared his wealth of knowledge and a wide-​ranging repertoire of ways to engage and excite our guests we never once felt an ounce of pressure to go one way or another — we were always in the driver’s seat.
Day of the event? «Nailed it» is an understatement. Mick worked the entire reception expertly. As the bride and groom we were able to enjoy our night while Mick executed the essentials, read the crowd, and drove the energy of our group throughout the entire evening.
In the two months post-​wedding as we have touched base with our guests it is great to hear over and over, unsolicited, how much our guests loved Mick — from how hysterical he was to the unbelievable music he played throughout the night (3 requests for full reception playlists and counting!).
But…the most telling compliment we have received from friends and family alike in abundance — «That was the best wedding reception I’ve ever been to.» That sums it up quite well.

Mick is the BEST. He was SO awesome to work with and incredibly friendly, funny and easygoing. He helped us choose the best songs for our wedding and provided great insight into how to make our wedding fun and unique.

Elite British DJ is one of the greatest wedding DJ’s we’ve ever experienced. My husband and I had Mick DJ our wedding and it was one of the best decisions we made. Throughout the whole planning experience he meets with you to go over the details of not just the music for the night, but the flow of the entire event. We had the ability to log on to his client website and pick out songs we like as well as fill in the details of whether we wanted dance lights, who were giving speeches, etc. Although he lets you pick out all the songs you like, we felt complete trust in letting Mick control the music and flow of the wedding. We have heard nothing but compliments on how great our DJ was. He doesn’t just stand behind a booth and play songs, he is engaging and helps keep the party going. In fact, if you read Mick’s blog, you’ll see that at our wedding in June 2013, Mick had to leave the room and hide after what was actually the fourth «last» song so that our crazy dance party guests would stop screaming «one more song!» It was so funny! He even helped play the ceremony songs off our iPod to save us the stress of trying to figure it out.
My husband and I strongly recommend using Mick with Elite British DJ. Our wedding reception was as much fun as it was because of his amazing DJing skills. I have never done a wedding with Mick but I have been to an event where he was doing dj-​ing. I got to talking with he and his wife (who is a wedding coordinator) and really respected what they had to say about the industry and their values.
As someone who works in the wedding industry also I know that it takes so much commitment to meet the needs of a bride and groom. You don’t get a second chance at a wedding. Mick and Julie are so respectful of that and are clearly passionate about their jobs. And trust me… There are way too many out there who aren’t.
