E.Vil Donuts

Donuts yes but not my favorite. I am not a yeast donut person. The reason for the lower rating is simple I ordered two sprinkle chocolate covered. Firstly after waiting 10 mins to order and being the only one in the store kind of ticked me off a little bit. Next the guy moved slower than my grandma and she’s dead. The ultimate though is it is a personal thing I cannot stand dark chocolate on anything. Don’t really like it in general. It would have been nice to know by maybe stating it on the glass/​sign would have helped.

In effort to make a concise review, here’s is why you should visit this place:

— My Favorite: Latte-​filled Donut. (think bavarian crème, but taste like tiramisu)
A new go-​to donut shop downtown. Staff is super friendly, and the donuts are tasty!

Just found this gem of a shop. Super clean and a friendly helpful staff. New to the neighborhood and I’m sure they will leave a make in the donut world. I’m a raving fan and will be back! Moist and flavor full is what you’ll get in a donut here. A nice rival to my all time favorite, Vodo Donuts of Portland Or.

This place has its own style and it I great to see a new business in the area that can be a little less than welcoming at times.
The shop is big enough to find a place to sit down and enjoy your donut and small enough that there are just the right amount of choices available.
You can get a donut, have it turned into a breakfast sandwich, go plain, all with a cup of hot coffee. I personally use mine for dunking!
The flavors are inventive but not as fancy as other spots. They have the bacon option that is popular with the kids these days as well as interesting choices like s’more.
I grabbed a caramel and salt donut that was really big! It was tasty and I enjoyed the flavors. I felt that the donut was a bit old and wonder if they are baking them every other day?
The service was good and uncomplicated. No long wait and I could just pay and go. Prices are fair at about $ 2 each for the largest donuts.
I would go back, and I like aspects this place has over more pretentious spots, but I do wonder if they are not baking fresh daily which is a shame because freshness is The BEST thing about a donut!

E. Vil is a portmanteau formed from its location [E]ast [Vil]lage Donuts.
When I stepped into E. Vil and saw the donut case, I thought they were competing with Donut Bar. (And who wouldn’t want to be Donut Bar? It’s always got a line and the owner drives a new Lamborghini.) But despite the creative and unusal donuts (yes, I’m looking at you maple bacon bar and balsamic raspberry donut), E. Vil knows its market: it is located at a trolley stop and is situated next to a taco shop; their customers are in a hurry and budget conscious. So, E. Vil’s donuts aren’t great. We tried three and they had good flavor. But all were a little stale or tough and they weren’t as pretty as Donut Bar donuts. Here’s thing though: it was half the cost. These aren’t destination-​donuts. They are just fun, good, affordable donuts you can grab with a cup of coffee as you jump off the trolley as you finish your commute.

I was hoping to like this place so I would have a backup when Devil’s Dozen runs out, but… just no. I’d rather wait four days to get the D than get it from Evil Donuts. Sorry guys. I know you’re new so hopefully you’ll read these reviews and make some improvements because you desperately need them if you want to stay in business.
The «blueberry filled» was more like «we had to call it filling because we didn’t know what else to call raw wet oatmeal-​like inside». Gross. The consistency of all the donuts was too dense to be a fried donut and too light to be a cake donut so they just ended up tasting like glaze on sandwich bread.
Don’t go here if you like donuts at all.
2 stars because they were donuts, because the shop was open, and the staff was nice.

Horrible execution, horrible service, horrible taste, horrible décor. I asked the woman working what kind of donuts were displayed (there were no labels?) and she couldn’t answer. She asked other employees and they couldn’t say either. That was the first strike which I would have let slide if there was compensation in other areas. Donut casing had flies swarming around in it. The donuts were stale. I think they bake bread and throw icing and random toppings on top. Sorry, but leave the donut making up to the professionals over at donut bar and close this joint down.

I’m not a big donut person but my boss brought these in to work today and mannnnnn I might just be a donut person now.
The donuts are just yummmmm. I’m going to have work a little harder this week to make sure he brings them in again next week.
I don’t know the flavor names because it’s just a variety but I tried a little bit of a few of them and I was not disappointed. I will definitely be checking out the location when I get a chance. Nice work guys!

Maple bacon donut ice cream sandwich. Need I say more? This place is rad and the customer service was on point. If only it was open until midnight when munchies own my life.
Also, how can anyone rate a donut (even if you picked it up off the ground and ate it) one star? Baffling.

I wish this place held up to my expectations! My boyfriend saw this place on IG and craved E. Vil Donuts all weekend.
Only to walk in and immediately be disappointed with the visual aspect of their product. Half the appeal of food is visual. He got the maple bacon as an ice cream sandwich and he thought it was pretty good. I got a fruit loop donut just because I didn’t see anything else too special about the rest of the donuts. Presentation is half the battle and it lacked thereof. The donuts didn’t look very appetizing. The guy helping us was nice but as I have read the other reviews there was a lack of customer awareness over all.
I much rather purchase an old fashioned donut form a mom and pops shop for .80 cents than hassle to drive downtown for a disappointing product.
Hopefully the honesty of this review helps for some improvements.
Freshness and creativity is what I expected.

This new business has quite a few kinks to work out in order for their business to be successful. Customer service, interaction, product, and motivation are all dangerously lagging. All, 3 times I have been here there has been something that has really pissed me off to the point where I didn’t want to come back. Having an employees state: «I just made that one fresh today.» doesn’t say much about your dedication. But, it’s not my business and hey if they don’t want to make fresh donuts it is their choice.
Having an employee tell a customer that the business doesn’t make donuts fresh every day plus not knowing what the hell is in them just sucks and almost cringe worthy. So, they don’t make fresh products, wonderful! This has happened 3 times where I have received stale donuts or they just don’t know baking chemistry. Hell, even their ice cream is store bought still in the brown drum so the customers can’t see what it looks like. There is absolutely no effort and passion in this business.
The employees don’t seem to give a damn either. Having an employee just stand in front of a bunch of donuts and continue a conversation with another employee plus add a dash of profanity and f*** you non-​verbal communication seems to be the norm here. I’m not bothered by swearing if it’s used in a mature way but come on at least use it with greater effect so that the business benefits.
Overall, this place needs serious work. I don’t see them surviving very long if they continue to have such disdain for their customers and have no quality in their products. I give them less than 4 months at this pace. Plus, this location is adjacent to the trolley and it only takes about 7 minutes to get to the Donut Bar.

I was so excited to try out this donut shop and it didn’t disappoint! We were greeted by extremely nice staff and they were really helpful when describing the donuts. We bought 7 donuts and sampled them all. My favorite was the banana nut, chocolate coconut but the maple bacon was incredible! There were so many options so I’ll definitely go back to try more! E-​Vil Donuts is awesome!!!

One star for the administrative effort it took to open the doors.
Zero stars for the product they are making. I bought three at 1.50 each, 2 sprinkles and one topped w/​coconut. First bite tells all, texture is a dense and almost rough. The chocolate and vanilla glazes were thin and runny. I am not going to review every bad detail however what i think is that there is not enough baking experience/​skills here, maybe some good ideas but fruity pebbled topping and labeling your doughnuts «Single White Girl» will not stand up when product is not good.
Maybe working in the pastry industry or culinary school would improve the bakers skill set. Maybe they will create a product that is a classic and doesn’t need deflective additions like processed cereal topping and goofy wanna be hipster doughnut names.
I really wanted to like it here, i went in with an open mind. I support locals who give effort to their visions but this needs more experience.

Came here on a Sunday morning to curb my donut cravings, even called ahead to make sure they had some glazed donuts. Thankfully they did!
The guys were great, but unfortunately the donuts tasted old and stale.

Great concept however lacking in execution.

Stale donuts, I got 2, the maple bacon and the apple pie. Both were equally stale which took away from their taste.

Let me start by saying they just opened less than a week ago… and I’m sure that isn’t easy and that they know they have some bugs to work out.
My friends and I were excited to try this donut shop and went on our lunch break. We found meter parking very easily. From the street, the shop isn’t very visible — I think some more signage would really be beneficial. All the guys that were working were GREAT. Really friendly and excited about their product. We looked online and kind of expected to see more variety of donuts but the selection was very minimal. There were a couple flies in the casing and therefore resting on the donuts :/​they were using plastic wrap as the backing of the donut casing but it was clearly not an effective solution to protect the donuts from flies.
I ordered a bacon donut that looked delicious… but sadly it was very stale. It had to be at least a couple days old :/​I took a single bite and couldn’t eat anymore. When I got back to work, I tried microwaving it for 10 seconds but it didn’t help. The donut was not fresh. My friends donuts were stale also. One of my friends got a donut called «Wesley Snipes» or something close to that. Looked delicious but it was supposed to have chocolate mouse inside, but there was no filing :/​
The service was great, and I love the concept which is why I am at least giving this place 2 stars. Considering that they just opened, I think I’ll wait a few months and give it another try in hopes that they have worked out the bugs.

This place just opened but it’s the best donut shop in San Diego hands down ! I had the donut sandwich and it was awesome totally recommend it ! & the theme makes the ambiance that much more worth enjoyable.

I’ve never been into donuts until I walked into E. Vil Donuts for their soft opening a few days ago. As soon as you walk in, the scent of deliciousness hits your nostrils and then that’s it, you’re trapped.
Not only is there a huge variety of donuts, cronuts, donut holes and other goodies, the toppings and ice cream do nothing but add to the number of customized goodies you can indulge in during your visit.
I went for the strawberry balsamic donut, with strawberry ice cream and fruity pebble topping. I can’t put into words how amazing it was, and CHEAP! I’m not proud of it but I went back and had 2 more, don’t judge, just visit and enjoy! You won’t regret it.
From the menu, the staff and atmosphere this place is great. Move over Donut Bar!

Dante has established a niche’ downtown that has donuts and more. The variety of flavors and topping options will have you looking at the menu and buying more than you expected. The staff is exceptionally nice and willing to help whether you want donuts or if you want to just come in and get ice cream. Located in the heart of East Village it is prime for a tasty eat on the go.

Been waiting for this place to open for months and it did not disappoint!
Great donuts in fancy flavors. Add ice cream, toppings, etc. An overwhelming number of options.
Very friendly staff too.
Amazingly there was no line! (At least as of day 2 of their soft opening. Though once word gets out that may change.)
I still love me some donut bar, but this will now be my default sweet stop!
