Escape games often limit you to random puzzles and escaping a room with little to no point. At Divergent Realities you deploy as an Agent recruit to not only escape a room, but use your wits to complete objectives and specific missions as part of a bigger story. Each mission is part of a story in a series, and completing the series unlocks a top secret assignment!

History

Established in 2015.

Divergent Realities is home to the Divergent Realities Bureau.

The Divergent Realities Bureau was created in secret in 1921, three years after the end of the deadliest war known to man at that time. Much of DRB’s early history focused on attempting to prevent, then ultimately assisting in in the conclusion of world war two. However, it wasn’t until the 1950’s, when the free nations of the world began to organize for purposes of common good, that the DRB was reformed as an extra-​national organization operating throughout the world and reporting to the leaders of the major democratic powers.

The original intent of organization was to change the state of the world from its present negative realities (due to corruption, terrorism, and tyranny), to a state of peace which guarantees justice and liberty for all peoples. In effect, DRB would force the divergence of the negative present path of human existence, to a far better one.

We had so much fun! I’ve played a lot of escape games (100+) and this company really does a top notch job. I love the intro, transition, room, and debrief. The puzzles were pretty standard, but done well. I really enjoyed the story and how the hint system tied into it. This is a wonderful immersive escape room that would be fun for all levels from beginner to advanced.

This was my second escape room experience and overall it was a fun time. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. My favorite part of the experience was the range of puzzles and clues. Not just a single type where you are looking for random info that unlocks this or that, but instead it required a bit of thought to understand what each clue means and what the right method will be to decipher. Our team of 5 worked well together and leveraged each others strength in solving the clues.
They have a couple of opportunities to improve the game in my opinion… getting into character is part of the fun and I just wasn’t buying the introduction from our host or the video that set it up. maybe a bit more effort in «selling» your role would help. The room itself is rather austere, it is intended to be a standard industrialized cube farm. but color, personal effects or just a bit more thought in the design would go a long way in creating a more fulfilling experience.
Overall a great time and I look forward to the next scenarios being up and running

My husband and I did the smaller escape room and it was so much fun! We didn’t know what to expect since we had never done an escape room before but it made sense even to beginners. The clues were challenging and the whole experience was entertaining. It was great for a date night and we will be back with our friends to do the larger room.

Customer Service: +5 stars; 5 stars isn’t enough. They were super nice and really friendly. I’m glad that they enjoyed having us there and made our experience escaping really great.
Room: 4.5 — 5; It a nice room that definitely has people working together to figure out the end goal. It was a nice room: D Wish there was some ambient music in the background to scare us a bit though. It was nice to have a warm-​up prior to entering the actual room to get us into the escaping mode.
Story: 5. I liked the story! I think it definitely added to the experience. I can’t wait for other missions to come out
Puzzles: 5. Lots of fun and they really get you thinking. Not going to say anymore about that haha
Overall, a really great experience for those looking to escape and test your teamwork with your friends. I love that they don’t pair you up with random people. Hopefully their next room comes out soon so we can try some more!!!

First time in an escape room and it was loads of fun! Puzzles to really challenge you with the clock ticking down! Agent at the front desk was real encouraging, and liked that she stayed in character to maintain the company theme. We participated in the smaller escape room designed for 1 – 3 people and would definitely come back again when other rooms open up!

This was our second escape game (although it wasn’t really about escaping a room… just solving a mystery), and it was just as good as the first one we did. Our group of 6 had a great time solving a really challenging, but solvable mystery. We did it in 55 minutes, which is apparently a really good time. Highly recommend Divergent Realities)

This was my first escape game experience and it was a blast. It’s a perfect activity for quality time with family. Parking was easy and thanks to Unilocal reviews and directions in the confirmation email, finding it was really easy. Using your imagination will help you immerse yourself in the game. My group of 5 did The Informant escape room and I really enjoyed the experience. Prior to the escape room, you have some puzzles in the lobby to help warm you up.
The puzzles in the escape room were challenging and hints were given via walkie talkie. Whether our group was focusing on one puzzle or splitting up to solve other puzzles, we felt we were heading toward the same goal. This room and story were well-​thought out and nicely prepared.
In the end, we were able to «escape» and they gave us a breakdown of what we did well. Then they provided us with costumes and took pictures.
The staff was very friendly and energetic making the overall experience fun and memorable.

The whole experience is very well themed from when you walk into the door to the moment that you step out. Hints are conveyed through high frequency radio and you have a team of «analysts» to support your mission. I can’t wait for the next room opening in March and I will definitely come back before then to try the two player room :)

Great experience! Unlike other escape rooms, Divergent Realities require us to solve a mystery. When you first walk in, the agents asked us to solve some problems individually. The first one was pretty simple but the second one was a little bit more challenging for me at least. These problems show us if we’re more of a visual or auditory learner. Once we finished that, one of the employees led us in a room to explain all the details. He also provided us with a walkie talkie for us to communicate with the staff for certain clues or hints throughout the mission. When we got in the actual mission room, we had exactly 60 minutes to solve. The clues were all in plain sight! We just needed to search the entire room thoroughly to find out the lock combinations. Once we solved the mission, they gave us a little certificate indicating that we’ve accomplished our task! It was such a fun experience. I would recommend this to everyone!
The one thing I would have to say is that the place is a little difficult to find. It is directly behind Tea N More up the stairs in the corner. Parking, however, is not a problem!

This place was awesome! It’s not really an escape room, but instead, you have to complete objectives and complete the mission within 60 minutes. The lady and the man who run the place are awesome as well! Very nice, cordial and passionate about this experience. It made it much more fun! Great thing to do with a few friends if you’re looking for a new experience or just something to do in general. They are completely safe. You sign waivers, etc, but it’s not an extensive process. The time goes by quick! You must have good teamwork or you’re assed out! Nevertheless, this is great! Can’t wait to come back for the next one!

Seriously I cannot rave enough about this place. The experience is absolutely perfect. I don’t think they could change anything to make it any better. Tons of anticipation going in, super nice people running the place. Great run down of the game. We did it with the blindfold and handcuffs. Brilliant clues… and we got out! Just in the nick of time too! Highly recommend… you’ll have the time of your life. Seriously. Do it. Like today.

Can I give this 6 stars?
This is my third escape room type experience, and it was by far the best one yet. There are others that come close, and that are super fun, but this one has all the elements other rooms seem to be lacking.
The storyline is incredibly well done. The employees are in character from start to finish. The warm up gets your mind going and also gives you confidence. The clues aren’t arbitrary, but rather formulaic. The entire experience went by twice as fast as other rooms, simply because I was so engulfed in The Informant storyline and objectives.
Don’t read too much about this place. Don’t try to learn all the escape room tricks. Just go into it and prepare to be immersed in a story line you won’t forget. Make sure you have a well rounded group who is ready to dig in! (bonus: no annoying strangers will be there to ruin your good time!)
Also huge huge shoutout to Agent 67 for all her help. Long story short I requested a refund then didn’t need the refund — I was annoyed at myself. But she wasn’t annoyed at all! She promptly responded and helped me through the process, and even recommended a better experience for us that accommodated our group better. I’ll be back for Sitting Duck on Wednesday night!
I don’t remember his agent number, but the other employee there on Wednesday 1⁄21 at 8pm was wonderful as well. He seriously immersed us in the storyline. He offered the coolest hints I’ve received at a room like this. And in the end he made us excited to keep coming back.

I tried an escape room before Divergent and that place wasn’t even close to how good Divergent was. The staffs were all friendly and super accommodating. The room was really well designed.
I really like how this was set-​up as a mission and there were multiple mysteries to solve in the room. Puzzles were really well thought out and challenging.
I found a great groupon deal for this time, I would definitely go back if I can find another deal at this place. 10⁄10 would recommend!

Another Groupon Goodie! This was our 6th «escape room», it was a great experience made for 2 – 3 people.
Divergent Realities is located in Kearny Mesa in shopping complex actually on the 2nd floor. It was a bit challenging to find. Once you get there you are greeted by Agent 67. Agent 67 educated us on the process and even gave us brain teaser warm ups.
We opted for the full handcuff experience, added some fun! The clues and riddles were very well thought out with nice decore. We weren’t able to get the ‘flawless’ score but we escaped with tasteful hints!
Overall, this place is winning. Wish I had more people to try their other rooms.

Unlike most escape rooms, we didn’t have to escape. Rather, we had objectives to solve. The game was tough but fair and well though out. The room was clean and set up properly and the staff was super friendly. We had a blast and I’d definitely go back.

Participated with my husband and daughter in the Sitting Duck room escape. Was a fun escape game overall. I especially like the escape games that lead you into other rooms, and this one in particular did not… single room only, and quite a small space. While this was not my favorite escape, I will say that the individuals running the operation were extremely professional, detailed, and provided excellent customer service!

We went as a group of four and had so much fun solving our mission. The entire experience was very well thought out and executed. I love me a good mystery and being fully immersed in the story sets Divergent Realities apart from other escape room experiences I’ve had thus far. Big thanks to Ben and Christine for making that happen and for their patience as we worked through some of their stumpers for lobby games. The room itself was a good challenge and my group worked well together to get the top 2nd time (only 5 minutes behind professional escape roomers — uh, can I sign up to be one now that I know they exist?!) Great way to spend an evening. I highly recommend and I’m excited for the next level of the investigation!

We have done previous escape room/​puzzle games and this one was my favorite! My husband and I went alone and it was really nice to put our skills to the test! The staff was incredibly nice and made us feel very welcomed! I cannot wait till the next missions open up so we can go again! The difficulty wasn’t to the point of well there’s no way I can complete it but it wasn’t like oh this is so easy. It was literally just perfect! Clues actually led to an end and it wasn’t like others where you have no idea how close you’re getting! Such a great night! Thanks for being awesome!

This was SO MUCH FUN! I went with 3 others to complete an investigation that was assigned to us as new agents. I didn’t really know what to expect but was thrilled with the whole experience. Look out 007, here I come :) I’ve tried 2 of the «missions» so far and they are both challenging and fun. The staff is great and you really get to know how you work with your friends when you are under pressure. If you are into escape rooms, puzzles or just something different to do for a fun night, I definitely recommend this place. I don’t want to ruin it for you, but the extra effort they go to here and the nice little touches they add to the games and details make all the difference. Looking forward to the next time I get to be an agent again!

I personally went here with a group of four people and the biggest selling point for me when I booked a time was that we could play the game with just my group, unlike all the other mystery rooms that forced us to either buy all 10 tickets for a room or get stuck with random people.
When I got there, I was a little underwhelmed at the decorations of the waiting and briefing rooms, granted they did JUST open, but my negative feelings were quickly changed by how well the story and setting were established through the «briefing» itself and the mystery room we were placed in.
I really enjoyed that, instead of a room where you have to escape from, you have a background story and a mission with objectives to accomplish. This take on the mystery room scenario worked best for me and has got me hooked! Will definitely be back for new missions!

Had a great time with 3 other family members. Staff was very friendly and was great at enhancing the experience. Made reservations at noon for a 7pm time slot on the same day. Everything was ready to go when we arrived. What a great way to spend an evening out. Highly recommended and we look forward to out next «mission».
