I got to try a few of their sandwiches options which was dropped of by my girlfriend. The sandwich I ate was some sort of a Italian on sourdough, and I only thought it was OK. Nothing spectacular, kind of like a sandwich you would make yourself at your home. I’m not in a huge hurry to run back personally. I did however try a bite of my girlfriends veggie sandwich and liked it better(That’s rare!). Don’t get me wrong nothing was bad with the food, it just had nothing that really spoke to me. If you’re looking for a sandwich and you are downtown you may want to try this place out, but no rush I doubt it will knock your socks off. Happy eating!

Love the food and the service here! The sandwiches are great, the hot dogs are fantastic, and the nachos are as big as your head! I was skeptical when I first saw the place because it’s so small and divey, but it quickly won me over. I love the intimate atmosphere and they have a great group of friendly regulars. I also absolutely adore their bartender Morgan! Any time I am back in SD, I will definitely be going back to Dirty Del’s.

Usually the sandwiches are good, but pretty light on the meat. The last time I went it was drowned in mayo and the pork was so fatty I couldn’t eat it. I took a few bites and had to toss it. My husband ate about 80% of his, but he doesn’t get as squeamish about mayo as I can and if he’s hungry he will eat just about anything. I was glad that I had also ordered some chicken spring rolls to help fill me up. They weren’t great and were pretty small, but the sauce was good.

Terrible stale bread sandwiches! Owner is too cool for school! I have rental property right across the street so I am in the area a lot and appreciate a good spot for a quick lunch… this is not it! I brought one of my red neck contractors here for lunch and he even thought the sandwiches were terrible! There are plenty of places to eat in East Village… Dirty Del’s needs to step up their game!

If I could give less stars I would. If you are a conscious spender at all or care how a place does business and treats people you will not spend a dime here. There are other reputable places and good local business owners I would rather give my money to.

I’ve been coming here for a long time, well over 5 years and it doesn’t seem like it’s changing much, which is why I love Dirty Del’s! A straight up neighborhood bar, cheers Dirty Del’s!

I frequent Del’s for there $ 5 lunch specials, they sometimes mess up my sandwiches but for $ 5 it’s really cheap and the veggies are really good. The staff is friendly and like I said, I go there often so I clearly like Dirty Del’s!

One of the best sandwich places in East Village. The Charger is my favorite and their cherry Coke, with grenadine, is a gem. And they have a punchcard!

Yes, I’m a tourist. Here for the week staying practically right above. Passed by a few times with people sitting right outside with drinks. Ordered a beer to sit with our dogs outside(even the lady came out to pet them). We get it, laws are strict… They even mentioned putting our beverage in a Togo cup for us. But when we stand at the doorway to pet our dog so we can enjoy the beverage we bought prior we should not be(literally) yelled at. I have never NEVER, been yelled at the way she did. Inexcusable, embarrassing, terrible service and will not be returning any time soon. Refused to finish the beer we bought and walked out. Absolutely terrible considering the service we’ve received every where else in this neighborhood. Def not even worth the one star.

Great sandwiches! Such a fun place to go before and after a Padre game. I wish I lived closer so I could go in all the time :)

Stopped in to grab a sandwich on my lunch break. It’s a small dive bar. I had great service from the bartender and the guy that made my sandwich. It was exactly what I was looking for on my lunch break. Cheap sandwich, fast service and some alone time. Only complaint would be that they have a weird substitution policy on their foods during happy hour. I was charged a dollar to sub cheddar for provolone. The sandwich was still cheaper because it was on special, but very odd policy. I was the only person in there so I’m doubtful that it was a huge inconvenience for them. I’m sure if they changed that policy they would have much happier customers.

Live a block away and saw drunk Dirty Del’s employees throwing water balloons at cars and unsuspecting people walking by. Expected behavior when you’re in middle school not when you’re running a business. Lost me as a customer.

Well, I would have given this place 1 star but the waitress/bartender was nice. We walk in, and there are about four people inside sitting at the bar. The waitress takes our order and then 5 minutes later a dude sitting at the bar gets up to go make the sandwich. ??? everyone in the bar sitting at the counter were workers!!! Anyway, we finally get our sandwiches… the dude SLAMS them on the table like he had been dead lifting weights for hours. Then, without a word just walks off. My BF and I were shocked… horrible customer service. We started laughing, because the dude seemed like he was having a hissy fit for nothing. I ordered some Buffalo Chicken sandwich, which they used sliced, processed chicken meat. Gross. My BF’s wasn’t so bad. A Roast Beef sandwich on a tiny roll. Weird. I am from SF and the sandwiches there are AMAZING. This was just sad… Please, help me find a good sandwich spot here in SD!!!

Bottom line… Terrible customer service, mediocre-at-best food and a SERIOUSCOCKROACHINFESTATION. I ordered my sandwich to go last week, received it, took it home and saw that even though I paid extra to have it on wheat(who charges you extra to have your sandwich on wheat instead of ciabatta?!), it wasn’t. So I called to have my card credited the $ 1 I had paid extra and the employee said she couldn’t do that but that the next sandwich I ordered would be free. So I go in today for my free sandwich and the same employee tells me she doesn’t remember me and that she won’t honor her promise. I spoke to the manager and the whole 9… Nothing. I have only ever posted positive review on Unilocal but when I told the manager I planned to write a negative review on Dirty Del’s, he told me to go ahead and do so. Unfortunately, here I am. Moreover, I just told my co-worker about this fiasco and she told me that she found a roach in her wrap here two weeks ago. Then, someone else chimed in to say that the same thing happened to him a few months back. Good times. There are 3 other restaurants on the same block that produce the same mediocre sandwiches for the same price, if not cheaper… I will be going there next time. Do the same.

The sandwiches are good and they are a great alternative to some of the ballpark food. However, I made the mistake of ordering a beer while I waited for my sandwich to be made. $ 8 small beer in a plastic cup? Really? For $ 8 they could at least serve it in a cold glass so it’s not warm in 3 minutes. I gave up drinking warm beer out of plastic cups in college!

Dirty Dels is a great little gem for locals or out of towners. Great music, multiple TVs for sports, fun & friendly bar tenders and of course cheap drinks! I saw a few bad reviews about not serving a homeless guy and I had to chime in. For anyone familiar with East Village, there are a lot of homeless. While most are harmless, I’ve seen multiple incidents of them wondering into restaurants or bars, being disruptive which results in paying customers feeling uncomfortable or leaving. Most bars in Gaslamp or East Village do not allow homeless in, I’m not sure why this place is getting a bad rap? I support this great place and will have a few extra beers next time to make up for the few duds who posted a bad review eventhough they’ve probably never stepped foot in this place.

Contrary to popular belief, bigger is not always better. * Del’s crams a lot into a tight space. * Despite being called dirty, Del’s tastes delicious. * Del’s does not skimp on the meat. * For a small place, Del’s has a got a LARGE menu full of sammies that will fill.you.up. Who doesn’t want to be filled up? * * That IS what she said. Now get off your butt and go check it out for yourself. It’s time to get DUURRRTTTYY.
