History

Established in 2010.

Darren De Vries, CPA started his tax firm from scratch in 2010 (formerly known as Fleetridge Tax). As a result of word of mouth referrals and exceptional support from the local community, de Vries CPA, APC is here to stay.

Prior to starting the firm, Darren was an Associate at Cooper & Associates, a San Diego based CPA firm specializing in tax planning, compliance, business valuation and litigation support. Prior to his tenure with Cooper & Associates, Darren was a Tax Analyst at ValueClick, Inc. (NASDAQ:VCLK) one of the world’s largest integrated online marketing companies. Darren is a Certified Public Accountant registered in the state of California, holding Series 7, and 66 securities registrations. He is a proud alumnus of the University of South Florida where he was awarded a B.S. in Accountancy.

I’ve been filing taxes with Mr. de Vries the past couple years and have received excellent and professional service at a reasonable rate. I used to file on my own when I was receiving W2s but once I started receiving 1099s I turned to Mr. de Vries to help me get the deductions I was eligible for. They respond quickly and provide great tax advice. Highly recommend!

I would give deVries CPA a score of 0 if i could. I requested in writing that Darren’s office prepare and send a 1099. Five days later there was no response to my email and the task wasn’t done. I contacted Darren again and he said he would follow up. He did not. Darren even lied and said the 1099 was completed then finally admitted nothing had been done but that he would «do better.» Darren’s only follow up was to see if i was ready to get my taxes done. I’m done with de Vries. Save yourself the trouble and find a firm that actually performs.

I just started using Darren’s services based on the recommendation of a friend, and I’m impressed. Darren responds quickly to emails late at night and very early morning which was completely unexpected. I am a new mom with a 3 month old baby, and life before and after my son was born has been hectic. I took my last years H&R Block taxes to Darren’s office where I was greeted by the nicest ladies at the front desk. Then 2 days later I realized that I needed to have my tax return for signing up for health care. I also needed to pay my quarterly taxes on the same day Jan. 15th which was in the H&R Block folder. That morning Darren emailed me a pdf of my taxes and to send in my quarterly tax slip. Darren made my life so much easier for a problem I created. And, he never made me feel bad for the mess up I know I created. I am so thankful the have been referred to Darren. I look forward to doing my taxes.

I originally found de Vries online and was attracted by the all 5 star Unilocal reviews. While I was leery at first, I can clearly see now why Darren and his company continues to receive a perfect ‘Yelp’ rating.
I had been doing my own taxes (with the help of turbotax) for the past decade and finally this year I reached out to Darren for some assistance on my 2013 taxes. I recently purchased an investment property and started a LLC and he was very thorough and knowledgeable assisting with tax advice. On top of his expertise, he’s a very friendly and understanding person and I know his business will thrive in years to come.

Darren is very trustworthy and seasoned as a tax professional and I’m looking forward to working with him again next tax season (or sooner)!!

This is the place to go no matter if it’s the pennies or the millions! I’ve watched this place grow from a small suite in a shopping complex to floor to ceiling windows with a view! While the location may have changed, the level of service hasn’t! Not only is every single member of their staff knowledgable and with a demeanor so friendly they’d make a clergyman seem rude, they appear to work around the clock! As if on cue one night I was stressing on a deadline and received an email at 11 o clock at night from the top guy himself! I’ve dealt with several places over the years that say «don’t worry» as I fork over thousands of dollars, then when it goes wrong they just shrug and say, «huh, that’s funny, never heard of that!». Not with this crew, when they say «don’t worry», you feel the sincerity. If there’s a shred of doubt on anything, they’re humble enough to research it five times sideways and get back to you before you even had a chance to chose between a Greek or Cesar salad! That’s rare to find in any orginization especially one of this nature. I’ve recommended clients of every walk of life and have never felt the need to call ahead and ask them to take care of them, matter of fact, I don’t even have to tell them to relay that I recommend them either!

These guys are great! I am a small business owner and I came with a big list of questions regarding state and federal taxes, sole proprietorship vs LLC, business income and expenses, liability insurance, investment accounts and deductions, subcontractors vs employees, etc. Darren took the time to answer every single one of my questions and helped me determine my next steps. He was very professional, respectful, polite, honest, straightforward and specific. I really enjoyed the consultation and I learned a lot. Their office is on the 6th floor and it’s very big, clean and centrally located with plenty of free parking. They respond to emails very quickly and you can can ask them any questions all year round. Although their prices are not very expensive, it feels like you are getting a high-​end service. I recommend them to everyone, especially to people who have questions and need consulting.

As a financial professional for the last 10 years I have come to appreciate delegating my tax preparations to the professionals. After years of working with part time seasonal tax preparers from H&R block and Liberty Tax it’s finally comforting to work with knowledgeable CPA accountants, Darren and his staff know more about taxes than I do. There’s nothing more frustrating than correcting your own tax preparer, which I did with the other companies. I always thought Darren’s level of service would be too expensive but their fees are reasonable and appropriate. Get your taxes done right the first time. We have been working with Darren for two years now and anticipate staying with him. He has handled our complicated tax issues with no fail. Home purchases, sales, rental property income, and multiple inheritance accounts from a death in the family have been no problem for him and his team to handle. We also have the unique situation of being a dual military family with complicated income and combat/​tax free pay issues.
Our favorite trait of the firm is their forthright ability to say «I’m not sure, but I’ll find out» when we have a unique situation that they haven’t seen, Darren will do the research and find the answer. He is very detail oriented and military friendly. They are a small firm who knows who you are, appreciates your business, and will go the extra mile to keep it.
The amount of time I saved was well worth his fair fees. We meet with him for about half of one hour, discuss the year, and drop off my (not so organized) pile of documents. He gladly organizes and prepares the tax documents and has them ready for electronic signature within a few days.
We feel so much more confident with Darren that we are getting our taxes done correctly than we ever were on our own. Turbo-​tax just can’t give you that same confidence.

Darren was referred to me by my financial advisor. I pretty much filed my taxes through e mail and over the phone with Darren. It literally took less than an hour and I was able to do it from the comfort of my own home. Darren is not only extremely friendly but also very professional and knows what he’s doing. I wish I knew about Fleetridge Tax before so I would not have spent so much money and avoided wasting so much time at H&R Block. I was extremely happy with the service and my tax return check! I called Darren at Fleetridge with an issue regarding a company that was no longer in existence. The company had misfiled my 1099 earnings without my knowledge. I received a letter from IRS stating that I owed for a year that I already filed and paid for. Darren reached out to the former CPA that misfiled my paperwork, obtained the misfiled 1099’s for the year in question. Shortly after collecting all of the information needed to amend my 1099 the paperwork was filed and I was on my way to tax success. Thank you Darren for all of your help during a busy tax season.
