Cox High Speed Internet

My biggest complaint is that, when it goes down, the tech support is worse than useless. I have TV, phone, and internet with Cox. It has been pretty reliable. But, when I’ve had a problem, they assume it’s on my end… my computer, my routers, my config, etc. The system works fine for weeks and months, and then stops. I have made no changes. It just stops. They tell me to connect my computer directly to the modem. Restart the modem. Restart the computer. Still nothing, and they say it looks good from their end. They ask me to hold while they pass me to another tech rep. Then they disconnect. This after hours of «try this, try that». An hour or two later, it starts working again. I can understand maintenance outages, but they never tell you when they plan one. I don’t think they tell their tech reps either. It’s gotten to the point that, when it goes down, you just have to wait until it comes back up, as there is really little else you can do. The people they assign to help trouble shoot are not qualified for the task.

So tonight 9:45 p.m. it is now 10:10 p.m. and I’m still on hold with Cox technical support the TV connection is freezing on and off and have a clear signal. And there’s no one to help I wonder why I’m paying over $ 200 a month for such a service what a bunch of BS looking to change

Cox has a monopoly for cable service in the southern territories of San Diego county. They take advantage of their position by continually chiseling and gouging customers for more and more money. There is no other high speed internet solution. DSL (such as AT&T Uverse) only work effective if you close (10 miles max) to the C/​O, otherwise they only provide 56K dialup service speeds. Satellite service is not a good option for broadband. This is a form of corporate extortion.
Google Fiber might offer them some good old competition. You can let Google know that you want Google Fiber in San Diego here:

Worst internet service on the planet! I have spent countless hours on the phone with techs who continue to lie about everything. I am seriously considering digging a trench myself to the nearest competitor internet service point, so I can get decent internet speed without crashing every single night between 7:00 and 9:00 PM! It would be well worth the 2 or 3 miles of trench and physical exhaustion to not have to deal with this incompetent company ever again!

tried to upgrade to 300mbps speed internet. First appointment booked online with chat agent. no one showed up after 4 hours I called and they said «sorry. we didnt have a time available for you. How about next week? Someone should have called…» Well the didnt. They also didnt email me with that change either.
SOOOO 2^nd appointment tech shows up is nice but puts on modem (recommended by Cox’s agent) and my speeds are still the same. He isnt quite sure how to get 300 speeds… so after talking to 3 of his people and getting 3 different answers he puts on my old modem and schedules someone else to come out and tells me I need to BUY Cox’s modem the tech will bring???
I still dont know how much that will cost and chat support is telling me the Modem they recommended first works perfectly and is exactly what their tech will bring…
Lets hope the 3^rd time works but I have serious doubts. oh and I asked for them to waive the $ 50 install fee since 1. I had a no show and then the 2^nd guy couldnt install it correctly and they told me No! Finally got a $ 20 credit from a supervisor… and I have just raised my 1 star review to 2 as the Chat agent has waived my install fee altogether. However, i have my doubts about that actually not showing up on my bill after all these shenanigans.

We have the Preferred internet package with Cox and the service is the slowest I’ve ever experienced. Speed tests at .3 Mbps up and .4 Mpbs down. Not even at 1 Mbps!
I’ve tried troubleshooting with Cox, resetting the router, everything, and nothing increases the speed.
I am renting the Cisco router which is crap. I’ve read reviews on the router and it gets close to 1 star on CNET router reviews. I spent 1.5 hours on the phone mostly on hold and transferred to different tech support groups, none who could really help. The last option is for them to come and replace the router. Based on the reviews on CNET, it sounds like the Netgear N300 should be the best router they have. THey are supposed to come this Thursday to change it out so will provide an update if it fixed the problem.
Cox internet is seriously the worst internet service I’ve had to use.

crap. total crap. charges like they’re off the charts exceptional, but serves like they just fell off the boats and don’t even understand what business they’re in. day after day internet issues at our residents. calling in and online chat is loaded with promises that they DO NOT keep! total crap.

Worst company you can go with.
1. Works intermittently and drops peak hours.
2. Increases the bill every few months.
3. Customer service never helpful when internet goes down.
4. Gives you a «discount» and then charges more on your bill.
Seriously one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Cox should be ashamed of themselves for running such a crappy business.

At nights, Internet speed slows down as in can’t open websites! This is basically cheating to me. Time to look elsewhere.

Just.The.Worst. Cox is a blight on the earth and should be nuked, there is no saving it. Abysmal customer service, 3^rd-​world speed, and
simply doesn’t work most of the time — it just times out our spits out a 503 server error. They don’t even seem to care about taking my money — they make it impossible to pay the bill and account recovery doesn’t work. I gotta wonder why they even exist. Feels like how a Soviet internet provider might operate. Again Unilocal,you need a zero-​star option, then Cox can aspire to earn a 1-​star rating.

I pay for high speed internet but in the night from 8 to 11 the internet is pretty slow or does not exist. Customer service will always blame your modem or wireless router and will recommend not using wireless router. Their technicians are below par and they charge for these lousy home visits. In the night I use my tmobile phone to connect my laptop to internet. Cox high speed is such a joke.

Im forced to have cox internet where I live and the internert is HORRIBLE it cuts out about every hour to where I have to re set the router and the bill keeps randomly going up in price

I’ve been meaning to sign up for Unilocal for a while so I could share positive reviews of places I’ve been. In the end it is my complete lack of satisfaction with Cox Internet that finally got me to register.
Cons:
— EXPENSIVE
— Internet service is frequently interrupted and the only fix is to reset my modem. Huge PITA since I often work from home and rely on Internet.
— Slow speeds
— Customer Service. It took 12 calls and over a month to get anyone out. They missed a couple of apps without calling.
Pros:
— I can only say that at least they offer Internet downtown. No «high speed» internet since no other companies do in the 92 101.
— When its good, it’s good. But it goes out so often and is way too expensive. They really have me hamstrung since I have no other choices.
If you’ve ever had really good, high speed Internet you are going to hate Cox. The current lack of another option downtown is the only reason I stay with them. Really hoping for AT&T Uverse or Verizon Fios at some point so I can tell Cox to suck it.

I have been a Cox customer for 29 years for both Cable and internet. They have a policy to reject outgoing e-​mail with 20 or more addresses, unless you are a business customer, which has to pay more. Their way to resolve this is to cut and paste and send to multiple contact list. Ridiculous! Had I not had recent bad experiences with AT& T I might consider transferring my service, but I have cable, internet and phone with them

Signed up for Ultimate Internet only. There were some billing screw-​ups due to their insistence on having a tech. check the line to make sure it was suitable for Ultimate, but those have been resolved by the generally cheerful and knowledgeable customer support agents I’ve dealt with. Used my own modem and router, so I can’t speak to that.
I do get the advertised 50 down /​5 up almost all the time, usually I see closer to 60 down /​6 up when I run a check. Reliability is great so far (knock on wood).
But it’s pricey — it’ll be $ 100/​mo after 6 months — and for that much I’d like to see faster upload speeds. I use the line to work from home and need the speed, but I’ll probably downgrade if I ever stop working from home to save a few bucks.
They clearly CAN do faster upload — the connection has bonded upstream channels and seems to pulse between ~12mbps and 0mbps every half-​second or so. I suspect they’re throttling and are planning to roll out faster upload speeds in the nearish-​future. I hope so, anyway. There’s no reason to have such lopsided connection offerings.
Also, they should really get rid of the bandwidth caps. I haven’t even gotten close to hitting the one on my account, but as expensive as these connections are, there’s no excuse.

WORST INTERNET EVER!!!
I am a software developer with a computer science degree so I am not just some Joe Schmo internet user.
This is by far the worst internet EVER. I am in a COX only cable area, the only other option I have is DSL or Dialup which is not enough for my internet needs.
I get disconnected at least once a day. It is not because of my router because I have tried it with just the cable from my modem directly into my router. I have also had ZERO PROBLEMS with my router when I had roadrunner cable. It’s the same router.
I tried to tell their less than knowledgeable customer /​technical support about it, but that gets me nowhere.
This is the worst possible internet you can ever get, ever ever ever.
Stay away, I wish I could give them less than 1 star.

This is a bad customer service. They tell you one thing to sign you up and then then dont go thru with the deal when the bill comes.
I was told no installation fee and when bill came I saw it say $ 309 for installation. I emailed in and told them my rep who signed me up said it was free. That same lady who signed me up, called and left a message saying to pay all and be discounted next month or just dont pay the $ 30 install fee.
Well now this is what they wrote when I only paid for what I was suppose to be charged for:
«At the moment I would like to inform, if payment in full is not
received by the due date, your bill will become past due and may be
subject to additional fees. Currently you have a total balance of $ 37.52
which due date is on May 26^th and there is a $ 30 credit due to Internet
Installation that will be reflected in your next bill.»
Dont trust them and get names and proof before agreeing!

Just an update. I’m on the phone with billing because I’m being charged strange charges. At this time I’m pondering the number of times I’ve been lied to by Cox employees:
LIE 1 — «Yes, you will get the correct modem» — The guy who came to install brought the wrong modem and it was MANY phone calls, followups and headaches to get the correct one (DOCSIS 3.0 to handle the high speed… the one the sales person wanted to make VERY sure I knew I was getting because it was the latest)
LIE 2 — After many problems, I spoke with a manager who said she’d give me a credit on my bill for the many times I had to followup up, the dropped the service, the lack of followups, etc. No credit shown up.
LIE 3 — During one of my outages, I got a call from one of the service supervisors who said there was no problem on their end. heh heh… now, if you know anything about this stuff, you know that when I have no connection from my modem there is no way he could ping it. that’s usually one of the first streps in determining if and where the problem is… since he did not do this, this counts as a blatant *LIE*
LIE 4 — During the latest ‘service call’, the rep said my cable was twisted & had kinks in it… that’s why i was getting slow service. So… umm…why did not the installer nor the 3 other reps who had been out here, who had been on the roof who saw & worked with the cable made *any* mention about that when they were troubleshooting the same problem? Oh… probably because this too is a *LIE*
I’ve had service for 4 months.
4 blatant lies for 4 months of service.
Wow, if there was actually another option, this wouldnt’ seem so criminal. Thanks be to monopolies… because if it weren’t for the monopoly, Cox would have no customers because they are horrible, horrible liars and bad bad people.
I feel sorry for you if you work for them. Supporting this kind of lying is very bad karma.
