Channel 39 – Cable 7 – KNSD

Catherine Garcia, Dagmar Midcap, Jim Laslavic, is the only reason I watch the local news. When they leave I will be watching Judge Judy.

Media in San Diego is getting women killed by their terrible reporting. It’s not limited to just one station.

Dagmar Midcap is the very best weather person in Southern Cal, light years ahead of any other San Diego weather broadcaster.

I actually like KNSD. The anchors are solidly professional and the context of the news information presented is succinct, comprehensive, and engaging. The local news features really serve to inspire greater community awareness and bring focus to important events. Special props to Mark Mullen who I remember watching back in the day on KRON in SF and also on NBC news!
What can be improved? The annoying pop-​up ads on their website. Sometimes when there’s an important news event taking place and I’m on my PC I simply want to double click on the news link and go to the information directly and not have to be asked if I want to down their app and, or, watch an ad before being able to watch or read the story, much less have another screen playing an ad directly next to the news feature. Yes, I know that advertising is vital revenue for the station but when there’s a very serious topic taking place I’m just wondering if it’s possible to tone down the ad volume every now and then?
Still, I think NBC 7 in San Diego truly ROCKS!

This station has the most relevant local news. They also maintain high standards of reporting facts with objectivity, no playing favorites when it comes to City, Law Enforcement, or Government Officials. I also like watching in the morning while getting ready for work. Jodi Kodesh reports the weather with pin point accuracy. She also gives good advice on what to wear due to weather conditions.

I used to like this news station, but it has gone down the toilet in recent years, and Jodi Kodesh was the most annoying person ever. You can tell they’ve been through some budget cuts, I don’t see them in the chopper anymore, and I think they’re now using the feed from Chopper 8 now. It’s gotten that bad. They used to have a spanish newscast also, but they also axed that too.

Can’t these guys find a better reporter than Brandi Powell? She is an absolute idiot in her reporting, as bad or worse than the bimbo on CBS-​8 who has no concept of sentence structure. Can’t help but wonder what out of town visitors think after watching these two so called reporters.

OK — Time to «upgrade» the review. The news finally went HD, so they’re up to two stars with us (they probably couldn’t find parts for the old SD equipment any more).
That’s the good news — The bad is that their new HD set is the most horrific looking thing on television — It looks like they were trying to recreate the set of Star Wars, and ran-​out of money just after they started.
It’s the most cold, impersonal, boring studio we’ve ever seen.
What on earth are the people there thinking?

Seriously. We watch the evening News for entertainment,
The Old Marty Levine and Susan Taylor show was Pure Comedy. They Stumble over their words and You’re almost Guaranteed to see Susan fight a Coughing attack on Live TV on a nightly basis!!! **COUGH** «Excuse Me.» OH! and it’s my ABSOLUTE Favorite when the videos don’t work. My boyfriend and I are usually on the floor laughing because they can never get it right! Sometimes we actually start the news over so we can watch again…
This new guy they have, Mark Mullen, He was really good when he came to SD. but he’s recently fallen victim to the same ⁷⁄₃₉ antics as the rest of them!
I shouldn’t bash on them too much, I mean I don’t know how well I would do reading on Live TV. But really… It’s their job. its supposed to be professional and they are supposed to audition (I assume). Its only giving me hope that I too can get a job after college and not have to be necessarily good at what I do…

This station STILL does not have news in HD — one of the few local stations (besides KUSI) that doesn’t.
This station STILL does not carry «Wheel of Fortune» and «Jeopardy» in HD even though such backwaters as Los Angeles have had them over a year now.
For a network owned & operated, this is sure a backwater station at times.
Come on KNSD — get with the times! (And lose the god-​awful new website which actually tries to hide information!)

So me and my friend were done eating at Sushi Deli 2 and we were crossing the street to shop at the mall and my friend pointed out the guy in the car that went past us to the left (that one way street near Westin Hotel) in front of us before crossing the street was Vic Salazar!
Immediately I just yelled Hi Vic! with a cracky-just-ate-sushi-nonclear-throat-voice…at first nothing, then he looked to the side then did a head back turn out the window! I waved and he waved back! OMG! He actually waved! Wow! That was nice of him! So in conclusion, Vic is cooooool!
I actually prefer KFMB news (set, stories, people, sd images, weather graphics).

Watching their fire coverage the past three days, I give this channel five stars.
Non-​sensational reporting (for the most part); their use of Thomas guide maps when regular maps would take too long to come up with; the twelve hour shifts the anchors are doing… and who are these anchors, anyway? they’re so selfless, they don’t seem to keep their names on the screen long enough for anyone to see. I have no idea who they are, but they’ve been very reassuring to listen to.
My highest praise is for having their Spanish-​language presenter, Tania Luviano (heh, the only presenter whose name I know), give the highlights about once every other hour in Spanish. Given how many folks in the area don’t speak English as their first language, I think it’s a shame that the other stations haven’t done something like this as well.
Yes, the Spanish speakers could tune in to some other channel to get their news, but it’s such a nice touch for a regional affiliate to care enough about their demographic that they have her come on and tell folks what’s what in a language they can understand.
