Room was great but 2 lights were not working in the room and the outlet Tht allows you to use the input for the television was broken and to make microwaveable ryem u must go downstairs we had gotten a non smoking room on the fifth floor but it wreaked re cig. There es also a fee for parking overnight

We rented a 2 room 1 bedroom suite. This means you get a living room/​dining room combo with a separate bedroom with a door to close for privacy. The room is spacious and the sofa has a fold out bed. Our son is 6 – 3 200#s so the fold out sofa bed is just not built for someone that size. But it was a bed and he slept. The actual bedroom is also spacious and has its own TV. The room (s) were clean, bright and quiet. We were concerned because the room was right next to the elevators. But we were pleasantly surprised that we did not hear any noise from people walking down the hall or getting in and out of the elevator. Our view was decent but it does overlook the I8 and all the surrounding hotels and businesses. But honestly, it’s San Diego and beautiful.
We ordered food through PostMates initially to deliver Denny’s and it was food but it wasn’t worth the time waiting or the money spent. However, The Bistro in the hotel was delicious! We had breakfast twice and dinner once. They were fast and cooked the way we ordered it without any issues. Totally worth it to order from the Bistro if you don’t want to go to a restaurant. We didn’t want to pay extra for delivery to our room. But it’s a quick ride in the elevator and across the lobby.
The front desk was always courteous, accommodating and quick to respond. They brought extra towels and pillows within 5 – 10 mins. And a roll away bed within 15 mins. That’s a lot quicker than other hotels we’ve stayed at. Our only issue was with our TV in the bedroom. It wouldn’t change channels past channel 12. They sent in a tech guy and he said it was an analog tv and wouldn’t pick up any digital channels. We didn’t want to pay for a movie so that was a bit of a disappointment. But the front desk adjusted our bill for the inconvenience and it satisfied our disappointment.
Our son used the exercise room and was happy with the equipment. It was raining and we didn’t use the outdoor pool or spa. The parking out front was usually full and a bit limited. But the back had an entrance and a lot of parking spaces available. I would suggest though if you have trouble walking on sloped surfaces get dropped off at the front door.
We would absolutely recommend this hotel and will stay here again. Overall a very pleasant stay!

I’m late doing my review since we stayed there December 2014.
My husband and I were celebrating our 10^th anniversary in San Diego and decided on this location since it wasn’t directly downtown, was close to the things we wanted to do, and close to the freeway. We used points for our stay from being Platinum Elite members. At that time the hotel was a Category 4. It’s now a 7. So, I can’t say anything about the price of a night.
It is/​was a typical Courtyard and what expected of it. We had a late flight, arrived at the wrong hotel, and when we got here, the staff were very kind and comical with our circumstances.
Check in was a breeze. The hotel was a little older and I believe going through renovations. We didn’t utilize a lot of the hotel, so I don’t have an opinion for everything. We did have to pay, I think, $ 12 a day for parking, we had to use our pass to get in/​out of the lot. The front fills up pretty early and you have to park behind the building.
It met all of our needs for our trip. It’s not a resort. It’s a standard hotel and respectively, won’t be up to par for everyone.
We didn’t dine in there as we chose to go out. It was mid-​December, so we didn’t try to go to the pool.
It’s across the street from a beautiful mall and great dining selections. It’s a short drive to anything you might need or want. They don’t offer a shuttle to or from the airport, so you will need alternate transportation.
I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and have never been treated so poorly to where I left because the service was so bad. My husband and I decided to stay at the courtyard because we didn’t feel like driving home after an event we had. The room was basic exactly what we needed to crash out for the night. We decided to listen to pandora on our phone while getting ready for bed and got a call from the front desk saying we were being too loud. So we turn the phone off, then security comes to our room to tell us we’re being too loud, mind you we do not have anything on we are sitting in bed talking. My husband is in the military he needs to talk before bed sometimes in able to even fall asleep. I went down stairs to try and get a new room so we weren’t inconveniencing whoever was complaining about our noise level the man at the front desk was very rude told me there were no rooms available (I went on
and found 5 rooms at the hotel) he then told me if we did not stop with the noise he would call the POLICE and have them ESCORT us from the hotel. NEVER in my life have I been threatened with the police for talking to my husband in bed. Needless to say we will not be staying here again.

This hotel is pretty good. In the middle of everything In San Diego close to the freeway.
Pros: house keeper have an excellent customer service, too bad we didn’t get her name. She went out of her way to help give ice. She was Very friendly early in the morning .
The hotel staff in the evening was really nice, in the morning staff was ok, yet sorta helpful .
Con: shower is clean, but small rust o the sides.
AC is loud.

Well i am giving these stars because of what happened to us on new years eve. We arrived late around 9 pm and were given our room keys so we park and proceed to our room. It was just me and my husband, and as we put the key in and opened the door a naked man is standing in the middle of the room!!! They gave us the keys to another persons room!!! Then we track our way back down and now there is a HUGE line to check in so now i had to wait yet again in a huge line. After another 30 – 40 mins we were finally given a room, we were furious but tried to let it go. Oh man we wanted to stay another night but i think i an going to go find a new hotel! After the embarrassment and lack of managerial help i wouldn’t stay here again. The only positive thing i could say is that the hotel is close to downtown and the beds are decent.

We checked in on Christmas and stayed a few nights. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They made sure to ask if we needed anything extra since we were staying with our 1 ½ year old son. The room was nice, bed was comfortable, plenty of pillows, etc. There was plenty of room for my son to play and run around once we pushed the coffee table against the wall. We were issued a parking pass that was to be used each time we entered or exited the lot, it was super easy. I have lived in San Diego a majority of my life, so I knew the location was great and travel time to go places would be short. (5 minutes to Old Town, 10 minutes to the zoo and Balboa Park, 15 minutes to the Cabrillo Monument, etc) Only down side was breakfast. We ordered and they said it would take 5 minutes, 35 minutes later our food arrived at our table. The fruit cup was missing, the French toast was super soggy, and the server seemed extremely annoyed to be working at all. However, we did get really good Cadillac Margaritas from the bar one evening.

I checked in at 2 AM on Saturday morning room 445 we were tired from a long night downtown. The price was expensive just for a few hours of sleep 180 but what did I expect it was Saturday. We slept well and nothing seemed wrong until my boyfriend got out of the shower and said her off the bed I have some bites on me. As anyone would I hopped out of bed and called the front deck, about 5 mins later the house keeper and the engineer came in to inspect the room. They started pulling off the sheets so o stood there watching them the engineer said oh are you checking out you can go downstairs this was a little weird to me like they were trying to hide something. So we go down and speak with a lady at the front desk older tall bob cut caucasian women who says well I don’t know it could of been anything then she leaves. So you start explaining the issue to a gentleman who processed to say I’m so sorry about that we do have a lot of foreigners that do come through this hotel and that bed bugs aren’t really something you can see with the naked eye.
The front desk manager Ashley approached us and explained how they have a company come out and do a check since it’s something that needs serious attention that they would get back to me. So I didn’t hear anything back today so o called and to my
Surprise Ashely wasn’t in so i asked to speak to a manager and was transferred to the manager Bridget who still hasn’t called me back and it’s 6:35p.m. To have paid the amount that I did for a room I wouldn’t expect that I wouldn’t be getting a call back. I’m very disappointed and frankly annoyed that I even have to right this review

Check-​in was bizarre. I did the mobile check-​in and usually I just give my name and they give me the key. The man behind the counter gave me a confused looked (for a second I really thought I accidentally walked into a restaurant trying to book a room since the bistro is to the left of the entrance). Turns out there’s been a lot of fraud at this hotel and I was feeling the frustration of it. Boo.
Pros: Nice and clean hotel
Cons: The hotel lobby smells a bit funky because of the bistro when you first walk in (food smell). Also mattress was a bit soft for my liking.
Odd shit: there are two sets of elevators about 20 steps from each other. Both went to my floor (7^th) and on the 7^th floor there was a nook with chairs so you can talk to friends and you’re not in the hallway being loud. Super weird.

I had a terrible and very pricy experience here not too long ago which is driving the stars down. Too bad because I want to give this place higher marks for location and for the cute rooms — but they CHARGED MY BOSS nearly $ 1500 for 3 nights and we didn’t even get the room we had requested. Damn! I stayed at Marriott Hotels for over 2 dozen business trips all last year — as a rewards member — and it didn’t mean squat. This happened during Comic-​Con which was supposed to be a fun time, but my boss and I spent the entire first evening trying to work out the WRONG ROOM issue, and then again the next morning, arguing, calling Marriott Customer Service, trying to speak with a manager that mattered, and who was not condescending just because they had a full hotel. By the time we got to the convention center for the Con we were both exhausted and dissatisfied. We had been charged for an extra night even though we told them we could not make it and tried to cancel… we were given a room with bunk beds even though we expressly reserved a room with regular beds, because we were sharing the room with other professional producers (who ended up staying elsewhere — because they weren’t going to sleep in a bunk bed [thus we lost their financial contribution to the Mickey Mouse room]), and on the second morning the housekeeper threw away my traveler’s pill container with my medications and vitamins in it (she did however neatly line up my old coffee cups and some other trash on the dresser in case I needed any of it). All this combined — well — it all pretty much ruined the trip — and cost us two grand — with not so much as a call-​back from the management.

Place has no leadership. Morning breakfast staff overwhelmed. One person working coffee area. No clear direction on how and where to eat. Food delivery flyers as I enter a clean room. Do not feel I’m getting value for the money.

They saved us from Marina Inn! Excellent accommodations were found here at midnight thankfully. The staff were so welcoming. The rooms were impeccably clean and we got free toiletries. There is a bar/​restaurant on site and a computer center also.

It’s the little things that set one hotel apart from another and, for me, the below average rating is due to toilet paper. Seriously.
If you’re a well seasoned traveler, it’s something you probably notice. Most hotels, and definitely the other Marriott’s I’ve visited (including two others in this town) have double ply, quilted toilet paper. This hotel features one ply sandpaper quality stuff that reminds me of either a school stall or fast food restaurant. Why is toilet paper important? Because I buy good stuff at home. And when I pay $$$ for a hotel, I want to be as comfortable or more than at home. The cheap stuff reflects a hotel that isn’t as interested in my comfort as they should be for what I’m paying.
Other things that earned the below-​average rating:
Some plugs and lights in my room did not work.
No extra blankets
The in-​room fridge only has an option to stay on for two hours at a time — if I have perishables, I want them to not perish for more than two hours
There was a laundry slip in the closet but no bags. No menus or other papers that are supposed to be in the room– the binders for them are there but they were empty.
The other Marriott I stayed at a few miles away even provided bottled water and snacks to welcome me. This one didn’t even provide cream or sugar for my coffee
The duvet had yellow stains. Maintenance in general felt lacking.
We only had and were only restocked with three towels for a double occupancy room — two people = four towels in my book. We asked and received extra towels, no problem, but the next day, the maid service TOOK the unused extra towels, still folded, from the towel shelf, so we had to ask again.
The last straw was Saturday night of our stay. Apparently, our room was directly over one of the conference rooms & an event was scheduled. At 10pm, I was under the weather and trying to sleep but the music loudly playing and audible in my room prevented me. I assumed this wouldn’t last too long so I waited to call the front desk about it. By eleven, I just wanted to SLEEP. When I called the desk, I was told that the hotel could have events as late as 2am! And I never got an apology or any kind of solution (perhaps the planner could ask the event to lower the volume of the music) even though the front desk attendant could even hear the music over the phone with me. This is a HOTEL! When I checked in, I was offered the options of various floors for my room but no one mentioned the room I picked would be above a party Saturday night. SOMEONE knew there was an event — I believe I should have been WARNED! I PAID for a place to SLEEP! Absolutely ridiculous!
To add insult to all of this injury — at checkin I was asked for my Marriott rewards card. I provided it. No one told me that even booking THROUGH
can re-​route the user to an outside vendor and even though they took my card, my stay was «not eligible.» If I book through
, I expect to get points for my FOUR night stay.
Little things make a stay memorable for the right or wrong reasons. Paying over $ 250 a night, I expect a little bit more. And I definitely expect to be able to sleep when I book a hotel. Having stayed at the exact same chain in the same town with a better experience last year and the year prior, I have a one-​to-​one basis for comparison and this location needs to step up their game.

Staying for a conference being held at the nearby Town and Country. Stayed here for the same rate 125.00, because I know and trust the brand and Town and Country looked outdated. The main reason was the loyalty program. I would have been fine with an outdated room to save the short walk but I love the points.
The rooms are nicely remodeled this year. Bed comfy. Internet worked well. Nice set up with fridge and desk. Starbucks on site friendly and convenient. Complementary coffee in room sucks but lobby coffee’s good.
Three stars because… No free breakfast. Charge for parking. No magnified mirror. Hot Water shut off most of the yesterday. My hairdryer was hanging off the wall and didn’t work. Most of all, despite a whole lot of lamps and lighting in the room, it was still so dark. I had a hard time doing makeup anywhere in the room. Bring a magnified tabletop mirror and sit by the window. A mirror at the desk, a magnified mirror in the bath, and improved lighting would up my assessment.

I’ve traveled a good amount and been in all kinds of hotels/​motels/​hotels in various countries. I’ve been in some really nice hotels, and some really shitty ones. You know, the ones with the stinky bedsheets, cigarette smoke smell, lack of hot water, leaky shower head, weird crazy people outside etc. And you know what? Not one of these places charged me a single dime for parking. Furthermore, some of the crappiest motels/​hostels have provided free breakfast and coffee, no matter how meager or normal it was because they understood that all a guest needs is a little something to get him going in the morning and put a smile on his face.
Courtyard Mission Valley understands none of this, and their nickel and diming has lost me as a returning guest.
$ 18 per day parking. Plain ridiculousness. I asked the check-​in guy about it, and he replied, «We charge ALL our guests for parking.» Well, I guess if it’s done for EVERYONE then it’s perfectly acceptable policy and totally not douchey!
No complimentary brewed coffee in the lobby, although it very clearly says so on the information welcome booklet in the room. They apparently ended that over a year ago, according to the guy manning the bistro. Thanks for the false advertising!
No pets, no exceptions. I landed this hotel stay via Priceline, and was hoping that in extremely pet friendly San Diego, Priceline would place me at a hotel that allowed pets, since MOST hotels in San Diego do. Nope, no luck there. I called the hotel right away when I realized this, and spoke to a lady with a difficult accent about it. Her response was that I should call Priceline and switch to a different hotel. Whhaaaat? Should your first response to a guest be to go look somewhere else? Could you at least tell me if there is a pet fee or exception or something, anything? Nope.
Their pool area never had any towels. I always had to go to the front desk and ask for some. I saw other guests doing the same thing too.
At the end of it, this place gets two stars. The hotel IS nice. The room is great, and the pool and tub are heated. The second star is for the folks working there. Props to the guys running the bistro all by themselves and being extremely professional and courteous. The room service was very prompt and efficient, and the guys at the front desk were generally accommodating and well mannered.
Oh btw, the bistro is ok, but if you want something really special, head to the diner’s across the street at the Days Inn. It’s called Bunz. They have the best service and most amazing burgers and shakes.

Courtyard Mission Valley is one of many hotels located on Hotel Circle. From a good vantage point, you think that you would know how to get there but it’s not the case when you’re actually pulling up near the hotel due to the size of it’s signage in comparison to its neighboring hotel, Vagabond. It can easily be missed.
PARKING:
In order to enter the premises, you will need a parking stub which can be validated upon check in. Parking is limited at the front and gets full closer to the evening hours.
CHECK IN:
When you arrive, you can unload at the entrance. There are bell carts available behind the main TV. Check in was painless and easy with Tim.
WI-​FI: Yes, there is free wi-​fi here. Woo-​hoo! :D
ROOMS & AMENITIES:
We had 2 queens in our room and it was just the right size. It included a coffee station with a mini fridge, desk, TV, couch, and a roomy bathroom. They carried Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner here. The room itself is a bit dated but our bed was super comfy. What I loved most about our room was all the power ports it had. There were several around the room! I have a few electronic devices that always need charging and having all the power ports came in handy for me. And, yes, I still used my good ol’ trusty power strip so I can also plug in my blowdryer and hair straightener.
SERVICE:
Good but nothing stood out. I would love if we had a bellman carry our luggages to our room. The concierge, Tim, provided a map of places to dine and visit.
OVERALL:
Not bad but not the best. Definitely has room for improvement.

We dumped the Roach motel and came to the Marriot. Magnificent difference from the hell hole we came from. You truly pay for what you get.
However, San Diego is much like Las Vegas. There are fees and taxes they don’t tell you about. And they wont tell you about the $ 18 parking fee, that they will put a $ 280 hold on your card for incidentals. So if you’re on a limited budget, don’t expect to eat much.
Other than that, its a very nice hotel.
By reading the other reviews, you can always tell who the spoiled brats are.

My cousin decided to have her wedding reception here and she made a good choice. The lobby area has a little café with comfy chairs to enjoy your breakfast. There is also a bar and a mini convenient store. I thought it was super helpful for travelers that they had a station to print out your boarding pass.
Rooms:
She booked a bunch of rooms for our family to stay in along with her master suite for her and her new husband. Her suite was super nice of course, with the bedroom being secluded from the living room. The bathrooms are modern and well decorated. There were outlets everywhere so charging your phone with 9 other women in the room wasn’t a problem. The guest rooms were nice too. Same thing as the suite but without the living room.
Wedding venue:
The ballroom downstairs was cut in half since she only had 25 guest at her wedding. The wait staff for the wedding was on too of their game. They made sure our glasses were full the whole time and kept our tables free of clutter once a course was finished. One staff member even showed us how the Cupid shuffle was done when no one could remember the entire thing.
Food:
The food was good too. We had an ahi tuna crispy wonton appetizer thing and a lobster salad tartare. Both were seasoned well and brought out the taste of the seafood. We had salad and dinner rolls. Salad was normal, ya know just salad. And for some reason, the bread was amazing. Maybe because I haven’t had carbs in forever to try to fit into this black dress for the wedding. They were so soft and warm. I think I had like 5 or 6 rolls. There was a choice between steak or chicken. The steak was a little overlooked and tough but the marinade was good. I didn’t taste the chicken but I heard that was good too. The side dishes of scalloped potatoes and veggies were tasty as well. Not overlooked, like other wedding I’ve been to.
Parking:
Ok so I was reading other reviews saying there was an $ 18 charge for parking your car overnight. Yes it does state at the entrance of the parking lot that there is an $ 18 overnight charge. Um, have you guys not heard of getting a parking pass at the front desk? When all of my family members checked in, they asked about parking passes and were given the overnight pass so they wouldn’t have to pay. So I don’t know why all these people are b****ing about the parking. Just another way to get extra $ off people who simply don’t ask.
Overall, we had an awesome experience here! Would definitely recommend this place!

I needed a place to crash in San Diego before a conference, and the reviews on tripadvisor &
were good for this Courtyard. I probably should have doubled-​checked the reviews on Unilocal as well.
The room was pretty nice, & they definitely have the business traveler in mind. There is a very functional mini-​store with water, adult beverages, ice cream, some food & toiletries. The room was also pretty nice, and it seems like the bathrooms were recently remodeled. The mini-​fridge has nothing in it! What a nice change of pace, instead of trying to charge you the second you pick up that overpriced can of soda. There are also electrical outlets everywhere, so you can charge up your laptop & cell phone at 20 different places in the room.
What I didn’t like is that they change $ 18 to park your car overnight. That seems like way too much for an area that’s full of hotels, so I’m taking off a star for that.
