Convoy Smog

I do not recommend this place at all they are rip offs. I always take my car to Kearny Mesa Smog whom I highly recommend and are right down the street. This year I had to take it to a Star station and so went to this place «Convoy Smog». I had just had work done to fix a vapor leak so the service engine light would go out which I told them and after paying the $ 42.70 (after my $ 10 off coupon reg. Price $ 52.70) plus $ 8.25 for certificate, he explained to me that it failed because the on board monitor was not ready and I needed to drive about 100 miles for it to reset and then come back. I said OK and confirmed that I would only have to pay an additional cost of about $ 10 – 11.00 dollars. Well I should have got that in writing according to the young guy that was there today when I brought back after driving the miles needed. He told me I would have to pay again the $ 42 as the sign says they charge to re-​test. When I explained to him what I was told by the other inspector «Yaroslav», he said do you have that in writing. I told him to forget it that they had no integrity and were ripoffs and left. They need to learn customer service. And who took care of me the great guy at Kearny Mesa who handled taking my car to a star location, getting my passed Smog cert. For a nominal fee. Now that’s customer service. The one star is only cause I was in and out fast.

Came in at 1pm on a Tuesday. The two polite young men at the counter were just finishing up with a prior customer and got me right in. I passed, which made my day! A gentleman came in right behind me and got the exact same service.
No muss, no fuss, fair price, excellent service. Five stars!

That time of year again. Arrived on a Saturday at about 11:15am without an appointment again and serviced right away. When you receive that notice in the mail it’s no big deal when you have a place like this you can go to. They now accept Apple Pay and I can announce I was the first official user. No doubt I will have to return soon with the other car. I can’t recommend this place and staff enough.

Owner is very nice and smogged my car quickly for a great deal. My car has some aftermarket parts but Yaro understood what to look for and I was out of there in 15 min. Will be coming back.

Came here for a smog check, my car’s pretty old and I was a bit worried but Yaro took care of me! Two thumbs up and excellent service. I’ll be coming back for sure!

I went to the wrong smog shop. He honored the other shops deal. I stayed. He let me use their wi-​fi. Told me 15 minutes and that was about how long it took. He was nice and to the point. I will definitely come back in the future. Thank you! =)

Does not give free re-​test. Even worse, decided to close 30 minutes early on me… He just failed my car but all it needed was to be driven for 10 minutes to clear the Catalytic converter Self Test. So 10 min later I’m ready to pay again for my non-​free re-​test but the guy wants to go home early. I had to go to another shop and have them smog my car and they passed it. Avoid Convoy Smog.

Be very aware! My husband had his car fixed and drove over 100 miles just to make sure. Well came in for smog they literally hooked it up to the machine and said they couldn’t do smog on it because the code had not reset he was there all of 5 minute and they charged him $ 52. Said they would charge 32 more dollars to have it redone! This is a very very SHADY Beware!

Would give them negative stars if I could! BE aware! shady smog place.
Had my sister go get a smog check there today, she had an check engine light come on right before getting to the station, however just went there and proceeded to get the car smogged.
I know as a fact that having a check engine light will not pass smog in any circumstances, however the guy there took advantage of my sister (probably because she is female), and still charged her and smogged the car knowing it would fail!
Please be careful! I mean as soon as the guy got in her car, he would have realized the check engine light! If he was honest, he would have advised her to fix the car first and send her away, instead, he charged her and failed the smog!

Fast and easy. Check out their website for a $ 10 off coupon and free re-​test (in case you fail the first time); that coupon will expire 9÷1÷14, but I assume they put the same coupons up over and over. Luckily, I passed!

I was trying to go Kearny Mesa Smog but was referred over here because I had to go to a «Star Certified» test location. (The DMV always seems to come up with some new-​fangled special place you gotta take your car… as if «Test Only» wasn’t bad enough).
I sacrificed about 25 minutes and 60 bucks to see if my baby had what it takes to impress the California Emission gods. Success! The gods were pleased.
The staff working at the garage was helpful. I made an appointment, but don’t think it was really needed– it wasn’t busy around 4PM on a Wednesday.

Pass everything but the visual. Said my CARB sticker wasn’t valid? It’s a little faded because I’ve had it since 98′ and I brought the same car here last time at which time I was not told this!!! What changed? Owner said to go get a new air filter and CARB sticker. Really? Plus he’ll charge for the retest!

I’ve been coming to Convoy Smog for 10 years with both my Truck and BMW Yaro has been professional,
efficient & personable. As I was waiting for me to be the last smog for the day a woman came up and asked if it was too late for smog, the employee hesitated, not Yaro, he told her we can take of you right away, making her feel welcomed. Great Service, Great business, Great Guy!

Good service. Done in less than 20 minutes. Clean shop, Star certified, no complaints. $ 60 for the smog check

This place has some nerve. I was comparison shopping for a smog check and the guy on the phone told me to call someplace else because I had already called him for a quote after I told him I forgot what the price was. Is this guy serious. Good luck with your business. Anyone stupid enough to say this to a potential customer deserves no business whatsoever. There are so many choices that if you choose this place you deserve bad service.

Nobody likes the hassle of having to get a smog check to renew their vehicle registration, but Convoy Smog makes it so much easier to get it done.
I’ve been coming here for years with my wife’s older Camry and my (now older too) Tacoma pick up truck.
The service has always been friendly, fast, efficient and most importantly consistent.
I just got back from getting a smog check for my Tacoma and again they exceeded my expectations.
I gave them 5 stars because I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone needing a smog check.

Just returned from another mail biting, BS California «money grab» smog test, yet I am excited my 1997 Tacoma passed!
I have been using Convoy Smog for approximately ten years on multiple aged vehicles and Yaro has always conducted our business with nothing but utmost integrity. Frankly, I was surprised I was able to set my same day appointment this afternoon within the last week of the month. To boot, my smog was $ 50 OTD!
When I had «passing challenges» two years ago (on the same vehicle), Yaro reviewed the statistics from the test, suggested an O2 sensor replacement and offered a reasonable discount upon returning for a likely passing re-​test.
Sure a s***, TLC Lexus/​Toyota confirmed Yaro’s diagnosis, replaced the part, and I was back the following day for an expedited passing re-​test; satisfied.
I noticed that other Unilocal’rs have posted less than favorable reviews, however consumers should to have some accountability for their decisions right? Unfortunately, «family hook-​ups» & flashing «check engine» lights are not reasonable comparisons in which to evaluate the value of Convoy’s service. In my opinion (based on multiple experiences), CA smog shops are all in a tough situation with increasing costs and restrictions every year, yet Yaro has delivered a reasonable value for almost a decade with integrity, accountability with a smile. I don’t go to dealers, nor do I have family that are mechanics, so I can honestly recommend Convoy Smog.

In and out and pass every time in less than 30 minutes. Never forget your $ 10 Off coupon and you won’t have any reason to complain about the price. Friendly, professional and fast service.

Smog spot that does what its suppose to. I usually go to another place, but this was the closest one to my work. I came here for my lunch break and was quoted $ 60 something for a smog test and with 2 cars (1 was almost done) in front of me it was going to take 40 minutes to complete my car. It’s a bit pricey but it was worth it as far as convenience goes. I went to grab a bite to eat at Carl’s Jr and when I got back it was done. So not too shabby. The guy said I pass and that was that.

Came here last minute because I needed a smog check and didn’t have time to drive to my uncle’s shop. They charge $ 52.70 for a smog check and I had a $ 5 off coupon that I randomly received from another auto shop so my total came up to $ 47.50. Still expensive and I would not recommend this place.
The following day, I asked them if they do would do a re-​smog check for free and after I told him what car I had, he said that a re-​smog would be $ 32.50 (hmm…)
Just go elsewhere.
