South Cal Smog

Dropped off truck at 9am. Told 45min to an hour. Came back at 10:30 went to the desk expecting to pick it up. Woman behind desk on her phone ignored me for 5 minutes, when I finally got her attention was told they hadn’t started the smog check, I was next. 10:50 they started.

This is the smog check that my auto mechanic recommended. I have had bad experiences with other smog check stations, so it is a relief to find a business that is reliable. The owner is very nice, and I always get in and out quickly. I have never had a problem there. I like it so much that I don’t mind driving from La Mesa.

Quick, efficient and reasonably priced. I needed a Star Certified smog check on my ’95 Dodge truck and South Cal Smog charged $ 40.00. Another smog shop had quoted me $ 78.00 over the phone. The technicians and the young lady working the front desk were professional and friendly. The only caveat is maneuvering my vehicle through the narrow alley to enter the shop but one of the employees quickly helped me. I will definitely recommend South Cal Smog to my friends.

Monday I brought my parents Jeep Cherokee in for a smog test. I had an 8am appointment, they got me in immediately and I was done in about 20 mins. The young man behind the counter was so friendly and so was the lady who I made my appointment with. Like other reviewers have stated, parking is a bit hard and the driveway a bit hard to find, but well worth it. I suggest an appointment early in the day if possible. They also give a small discount if you’re a returning customer. I highly recommend this place!

I’ve been coming here for years because they have amazing service. The staff here is extremely nice. You don’t even need an appointment. It helps, but I came in when they opened and I was the only one so they worked on my car. Took about 20 minutes.
I actually wanted to give this place four stars only because the parking is so horrible and you might miss the place if you aren’t paying attention. With that being said, I once had to park my car down the street and when it was my time for my car to get checked they actually walked to my car instead of having me go and pick it up! Now that’s some service!

Friendly and quick service. Parking is a little awkward and the company name is not very visible from the street. Keep your eyes open or you will miss the driveway entrance. Appointments are great, but they will take drop ins, come early.

Don’t even consider anywhere else within a 10-​mile radius; they’re the best. Make an appointment, take your car. Done and done.

These guys rock. They will do their best to help your car pass smog. They even told me to keep the engine running so it stays hot before they test it. Only do this if you have an appointment.
It’s always best to have an appointment. I’m not saying they don’t take walk ups but if you want a hassle free time call ahead.
Staff is friendly, especially the reception lady. She has her lines down pat! «Fill out the highlighted areas». She said that to me again at the end when I paid and I had a good laugh. She must say that 20 times a day.
My brother works at Kearny Mesa Toyota and he takes his cars there.

Friendly staff, make an appt and you’re in and out in no time! Disregard the guy Jason’s review that he posted. His check engine light came on in the middle of his test so it didn’t pass. I was there when they told him that his check engine light came on in the middle of their test… get your car fixed you bum.

They were recommended to me by my friends at Wolf Automotive so I knew I had to go to them. Great serivce, fast and reasonable price. Very pleased.

For starters, i was sent here by Shawn at Tune Craft Auto on Balboa and Clairemont Drive. Their smog computer (thing) was down, so they sent me along with a referral. AWESOME. (Thanks!). I called to make an appointment and the girl seemed really nice, name time blah blah. I asked how long it took she said «oh it only takes like 5 – 15 minutes» AWESOME. (i thought). So my boyfriend takes my car the next day (while I’m at work) and finds this shop. It took an hour and a half. I wasn’t the one waiting, so it didn’t harm me, however when i asked how long, i figured a realistic time frame would be given. Apparently their computer broke mid testing my car. I understand shit breaks. No worries. The straw that broke his back was, on his way TO get my car smog he stopped and got an iced tea. When he got in the car again, and hour and a half later, standing in the sun, his tea was gone. Ha. It’s those little things that make your customers not trust you. I know it’s just a tea, but if you’ll take that while my car is in your hands, who’s to say you wont take my i-​pod, phone, purse, anything else that happen to be left in there. I will not be back. That decision was made BEFORE the he was tea-​less.

Great place, I’ve been getting my cars smogged here for years.
Not the cheapest you can find with coupons around, but certainly the most pleasant, and helpful, vs. just «it doesn’t pass», or like some other places scamming you by saying it doesn’t pass, then wanting to do the service for you at inflated prices.
And, the will retest (once) for free.
