I tried to enter this club years ago based on friends telling me to join. I had a great time sailing with my friends that were in the club, or outside it. I love sailing. Done it many times with other people on large and small ships, from Tall Ship California down to small ships the Convair club uses. The problem I had with this organization is that they require several on the water training classes plus many hours of in room instruction before you are allowed to use the sailboats. Everyone is very nice, though the in-class hours are very long if I remember right, and anyone on a busy schedule will find it insanely long(like a working professional). The other issue is that during on the water training the teachers are very critical, meanwhile the regular members abuse the boats on a regular basis. When I was out with a friend once, the loose sail line saved one guy’s sailboat from ramming into the dock because the hapless member driving the sailboat into the dock was not paying attention at all. He had not let his main sail down at all and plowed ahead — luckily the slack main line caught on the dock cleat(he was also sailing the boat by himself)… Meanwhile the new people are being lashed left and right on minor things, though overall doing a better job than everyone else… Very annoying. If you can get through all the classes, and don’t mind being nit picked on then this club is a great inexpensive way to sail. It was just too much of a hassle for me and I quit.

The best way to sail on San Diego Harbor if you want to do so with some regularity. Great club!
