Business Owner

Fernando Montalvo is a San Diego native and San Diego State alumnus. The Montalvo Family has been in the furniture business for almost 60 years, including Fernando’s father, who has worked in the industry for four decades. Fernando worked with his father at their family owned furniture shop before opening this location more than 20 years ago. Fernando has since been dedicated to customer satisfaction, and wants his to customers to be thoroughly happy with the Comfort Furniture experience.

Comfort Furniture came as a recommendation from a friend who also purchased her couch from them and they did not disappoint. I was given excellent service while I was in the store with no pressure sales. Everyone who helped me spent a lot of time walking through the options, drawing me diagrams to take home and visualize as well as letting me borrow the sample fabrics to take home to my space to try out. I just love my new couch. I love that it is made in the US, is great quality and was so customizable. I went with a large traditional-​style 3-​piece couch with a linen fabric.

I very much highly recommend this place if you are in the market for a new, super-​quality sofa! My friend and I shopped around a few furniture places, took our time to make sure we find right design, right style, and right look for my new sofa, and finally settled on an amazing sectional couch here at Comfort Furniture. Baran was a tremendous asset in helping us decide the perfect custom-​made, sectional for my place. Baran was a joy to work with, answered all of our questions, took her time with us, and gave us all the attention that we needed to help us arrive to our decision. The delivery was right on time as well … expected delivery date was 10 – 14 days, and my furniture arrived on the 10th day after the transaction date. The assembly was also quick and the people who delivered it to my place are very professional.
As I mentioned, we looked around a few furniture places before settling on Comfort Furniture. We feel this place gave us the most choices and most flexibility in terms of how we want our custom sectional to look, which includes the fabric, cushion firmness, sofa dimensions, and warranty. The attention we got from customer service was something that impressed me as well ! Selecting the right furniture is definitely overwhelming, but Baran was there throughout the whole process in in helping us come to our decision.
Definitely highly recommend this place! And yes, my new sectional couch looks GREAT and feels GREAT !!! Loving the look at my pace!

As a Designer, I absolutely love working with Comfort Furniture Galleries and the Head Designer/​Manager — Baran is amazing! Comfort Furniture manufactures all of their sofas, sectionals & chairs locally. This gives them the ability to customize every piece they offer, which is in the hundreds. They can make a customize pieces faster than any other company I have come across. They also guarantee their furniture for life.
Baran has an immense knowledge about each piece they offer, giving clients essential choices and feedback to guide them in making the best choice for their lifestyle and use of the piece.

Just got my delivery of a sectional, couch, 2 accent chairs, coffee table + end table~ very happy with the outcome and the quality of the work! I received fantastic attention and service from Baran, who instructed me what to measure and bring back to her with pictures, and she helped design my living room and my family room. I declined some options like lamps and other things, but she was totally fine with it, no pressure at all. I felt comfortable shopping there, she would share her honest opinion/designer’s opinion on things and I really appreciated that!
The material she picked was great, everything went well together, it’s all great! I couldn’t be happier and I would definitely come back the next time I need something. Which may be soon. The fabric and quality of the seats and the pillows and EVERYTHING is top notch. Solid. Durable. OK, fine. I’ve had them for a total of 3 days. But they sure seem durable.
Recommend this place for sure! For a couple thousand, might as well custom design your seating! =) Although leather seating is priced a bit steep, but I am really happy with the fabric seating I got.

I was not impressed by this furniture store. The quality of couch frames and even fabric choices is poor. I get that some folks like to customize, but you can do that at other furniture stores. This place charges Lazy Boy prices, without offering the same quality. They gave me a quote for $ 1000 for a sofa sleeper. I ran over to Mor and found a similar quality sleeper sofa for under $ 400. I was the only customer in the store and while the Sales lady was pleasant, she got on a phone call and when I tried to leave she tells me to hold on so she can quote me a price which took about 10 minutes to do.

For the money I paid the delivery was a nightmare and the alleged 2 week delivery was not met. None of the parties (store and delivery company) wanted to take responsibility so definitely taking my money and spending the extra 10% expenditure for piece of mind at a more professional and full service big company. Despite what they think sales and delivery go together so if they can’t get their ducks in a row I am not paying to be in the middle of an ill coordinated dysfunctional operations.

It’s been 1 year now where I wanted to do a review on this place. I’ve been to many furniture stores in San Diego looking around for personal and rental purposes. I ended up buying a custom right arm facing chase couch with a built-​in bed and a nice 5 – 8 carpet. I think that carpet I bought was the most expensive carpet I’ve ever bought. I’m sure it was Baran that helped me and she was good. Although I didn’t see the final product of the couch and the carpet since I had to move out of country, but my tenants were very happy with the product. I highly recommend Comfort Furniture.

Our 3-​piece sectional and 3 additional (6 pillows, total) accent pillows were delivered yesterday afternoon. This couch is gorgeous! It is prettier than I hoped it would be. Baran helped us through the whole process. The material she helped me pick for the pillows is beautiful. Baran and Fernando are very nice. I am very, very happy with our sectional. Comfort furniture galleries is truly a throwback to how vendors used to treat their customers. I didn’t like the legs on my sofa and for a minimal price I was able to change them. Quality counts and good business are a rarity. Believe me I’ve searched enough of them before I spent my hard earned dollars.

Seventeen years ago I bought at this company a sofa and two chairs, and 9 years ago two love seats and a sectional. Both times I had excellent customer service and furniture that was beautiful and very durable and custom made exactly in the style and color I wanted. Now I am ready for a new sofa and dropped by a couple other furniture stores in town, to see their quality and prices. I also read their on-​line reviews.
I knew deep down I would end up at Comfort Furniture again and I did and what a relief it was to have a beautiful selection, great prices and immediate assistance from Baran to find my sofa. I had a picture in my mind of what I wanted, and Baran was approachable, friendly, fun and professional, as well as so helpful in showing me everything I had to choose from in the style and color I described to her, and also in helping me through the sales process.
I know I can relax and wait for my custom sofa to be made in two weeks and count on the quality of it once it is delivered, because that was my experience the past two times I bought from this store. If you check this place out, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised that such a place exists where you can get exactly what you want custom made at a price that is close to if not the same as so called ‘bargain’ furniture stores.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! We customized a couch. Very expensive (OVER $ 2,000) and asked specifically for it to be just as comfortable as one of the floor models. We got it and it is HARD AS A ROCK!
Calling the lady who worked with us several times only made her try to haggle us for more money. «Oh if you want it to be comfortable you need to pay an extra $ 300». If I knew I needed to pay an arm and a leg for something that doesn’t feel like cement than I would have just sat on my apartment floor for free!
I am not niave. We have been lied to and taken advantage of.
We are a young couple with not enough money to fathom the extra $ 300. We are truly upset.
So buyer beware…

My husband and I have been shopping around for a sofa and loveseat for months. We walked in with no expectation of actually buying anything but the style and quality of furniture they have here is excellent! The prices are great! All the sofas are customizable with fabric and style (different sizes, sectionals, etc). I will highly recommend to my family and friends :)

We got great customer service while we were looking for a leather sofa set or sectional. We ended up not buying anything as in comparison with other stores I found them WAY OVERPRICED (one star off). The leather sectional we were contemplating from $ 8K –11.5K…seriously? Somehow I know that based on my current leather couches I bought 14 years ago, I can spend less than $ 5K on a good quality set with a solid warranty… And this is not the amount I spent 14 years ago, its just based on my research and checking leather couches in variety of different places.
That being said, I have to add here that their selection of contemporary styles is limited BUT you can customize your couch to suit your cushion feel, choose the material you like and size, they give you lifetime warranty and it takes up to 3 weeks because its made to order in the California, LA area. Yes MADE IN USA costs money!
So… You need to take all these options into your consideration.

After searching at another big name furniture store with no luck, we came to Comfort Furniture Galleries and were able to create a custom couch at a great price. Baran was so helpful; her suggestions for fabric choice and color were great. We purchased two sectionals and an ottoman. I definitely recommend coming here, the customer service was very pleasant and not overbearing like other furniture shops.
