College Grove Optometry

This place is absolutely horrible. The process of getting my exam and picking out glasses took several hours and the customer service was not friendly. I picked up my glasses and immediately could tell something was wrong. They were basically magnifying glasses, the kind you can get at any pharmacy. Everything up close looked larger but anything more than a foot in front of my face looked blurry. They told me that was to be expected because I chose glasses for «up close only.» When I chose that option, it was because I mainly use glasses when I work on the computer and I wish it had been explained to me that I would have to take them off EVERY time I looked away or stepped away from my computer. In 30 years of wearing glasses, no one had ever asked me what I needed glasses for (aren’t you supposed to tell me that?) and I’ve never had glasses that make everything blurry. They said the only way this could be fixed is if I returned for another exam and the prescription turned out to be different. This was a complete waste of my time and money.

I went to College Grove Optometry because a couple people in my family purchased some glasses from there and they was happy with glasses. I went there & picked out some Coach frames. I was told they had to order them and it will take 10 business days. I got them back a little over 2 weeks. I went in tried them on and I knew something was weird or off about them but left with them anyway. I left with the glasses all excited that I can see now. When I got home I noticed the frame was defective one side was longer than the other. The width of the frame was off and not identical to the other side. I called the office and they told me to bring them in. I didnt know if it was normal or not but I didnt like it. I didnt get invoice or nothing so I didnt have nothing to refer too regarding the warranty, or care instructions at this point I dont even know what type of lenses I had. I didnt get any paperwork with the purchase. One of the ladies in the office looked at the glasses and she said she dont see nothing wrong, she gave me the option to send them back or a new pair or she said she can try to fix it there. I told her to send them back. About 2 weeks later I got a call to come in. I was told that she ordered some more frames and they can pop my lens out and put it one of frames, or last option to send back for a new pair. I tried the frame on and it was ok, better than the original glasses I had so I told her ok. She went to the back of the and popped my lenses out she put them on the better frame. I went home and took them off to inspect them further and I discovered some vertical lines on one lens and a couple tiny ones on the other. When I have the glasses I cant see scratches. After all that now my lenses are damaged. Im pretty sure it happened when she took out of the frame. I am totally disappointed. I feel like I got duped.

I feel so comfortable coming here. The girls are very nice and they remember you even if its been a while you’ve been there. My son ran out of contacts and broke his backup glasses and he told me last minute… so I panicked knowing he couldn’t go without any contacta or glasses so I called and thank god they made a spot to see my son within the hour. The Optometrist’s demeanor is very calm and professional and I always leave happy and at easy knowing my son got good care and contact and glasses supplies.

I was in desperate need, because my little cousin broke my glasses and my contacts magically disappeared. I had stopped in to see if they had any specials, before I hand over my money to Walmart. Thank goodness I did! 2 pairs for glasses for $ 99.00 and they rushed my order! Thank you Ester for everything! I will definitely be back when it’s time for annual exam. Minus one star, because one of the staff told me I needed bifocals. I’m pretty sure she was new, she didn’t seem confident in what she was doing.

This place is terrible. They took forever to help me out the two people working behind the counter are completely incompetent. I sat down for 45 minutes for for my pre test and heard the screw up countless times on the phone. The shop they own is is a mess with things in organized. The cases they keep their glasses in are smudged, they don’t care about detail. Also the doctor treated me very disrespectful when I had very valid complaints. Come here if you aren’t looking for good service.

Walking in for the first time, I was desperately looking for some help regarding my vision issues. From the moment I stepped inside, I was not only treated rudely, but I was being discriminated against. I was specifically told by the receptionist that if I did not speak English, that the doctors would not see me or help me with my problems. Just because I have an accent and look hispanic does not mean I don’t speak English. She also made me aware that if the doctor could not understand the problem that I was trying to explain, I would not be refunded for the visit. I was not concerned about the money what so ever, I just needed some help concerning my eye problems. Due to the lack of respect, this place will not have mine or my family’s business again.

I’m giving this place 1 star ONLY because the front desk staff was very friendly and professional.
The entire office was small. Waiting room was crowded and carpet looked dirty.
My husband and I brought our daughter in for her first vision exam. Doctor Nguyen helped us. My daughter is a shy six year old. While in the examining room my daughter seemed confused as to the question the doctor asked. I interrupted and tried to ask my daughter the question in a clearer way. Immediately the doctor stuck her hand out and told me, «It’s ok, I got it». So what I was given the hand! I didn’t think much of it and thought perhaps she was right if I just let her do her job.
After examining her she explained my daughter had astigmatism, was far sighted and needed prescription glasses. She recommended to dilate her eyes and check for other eye diseases. Obviously my husband and I had questions and proceed to ask her but she continued to walk out of the office, rudely cut us off and said questions are asked later. I explained to her that we had questions now. I told her that I felt she was rude but she didn’t hesitate to stop and completely ignored us. Her assistant over heard me and told me all questions are answered at the front desk.
Our questions were for the doctor regarding my daughters vision health and how our families vision history would affect her. I don’t think the front desk should answer questions that only the doctor knows the answer to.
Doctor Nguyen checked my daughter after 20 minutes. Again I explained we had questions but instead of saying; «what’s your question», she responded by saying «I did know you had questions, I thought your husband was talking to you not me». Really lady? I know she acknowledge we had questions by answering that questions are asked later. This was her chance to remedy the bad experience but she didn’t.
Needless to say, We will not be coming back here again. I will find another optometrist that will take the time to answer any and all questions patiently and professionally.

Dr. Villa is wonderful and I was greeted by EVERYONE in the office. Not only do I appreciate them supporting the Military but they are donating $ 1 for every eye exam to the Susan G Komen foundation. Great office!

Worst service ever. When I went to set up an appointment, they told me that I had to give a copy of my health insurance. I just wanted to clarify why, since I was not using it for my exam, I have eye insurance. When I tried to question them as to why it was needed. I was told that if I did not like it I could go else where. I responded «you are right, I can go elsewhere and walked out. Needless to say I will never take my business there again. 10 thumbs down:(.

Extremely sweet staff! Also they have a a great selection of glasses and they offer different color contact lenses as well.

The staff is nice and professional, ready to answer any questions without being rude or rushing you off. The doctor is also a pediatrician so there is a lot of kids there…
— They have good deals on frames, no idea about prices on contacts but I don’t think they’re any different than usual?
— The waiting area is too small. Three chairs (always with above mentioned kids on them). The whole office is pretty compact, but they should think of a solution to fit some extra people:)

Been going to Dr. Nuygen since I moved to SD in 2008 and haven’t gone anywhere else. She is very nice and definitely seems to want to make sure you are happy with your visit. Plus she is gorgeous… always a plus.
Definitely recommend her!

After a brief lapse from seeing my eye doctor as a child, my family decided to go to this place. As a child I always got a headache from my prescription glasses, and I told the doctor this when I was there. She said I had been given the wrong prescription and she was right: after getting my new glasses I never got a headache! The people here are funny, nice, caring, and have great customer service. They never rush you but instead are very individualistic. I highly recommend this optometrist, especially for kids.
