History

Established in 2015.

Leslie Hawkins, owner, is a body sugaring professional and licensed esthetician. After working as a body sugaring specialist in Los Angeles for four years she decided to move down south and open up Cleo Sugaring in the heart of La Jolla. Cleo Sugaring was established to embrace the history of sugaring and also celebrate the modern take on this specialty. Sugaring originated in Egypt under Cleopatra’s ruling and has been a popular form of hair removal in the Eastern countries. Now word has spread and the western world is getting wind of this incredible form of hair removal and reshaping the way women think about hair removal.

She’s professional yet funny at the same time, putting you at ease. I was honestly terrified since it was my friends idea to get a bikini wax but with Leslie it was quick and painless. This woman is AMAZING. Went here for my first ever bikini wax/​sugaring. I was really nervous, not just about the pain, but about the awkwardness of laying on a table bottomless with someone staring at my private parts. She made it such a comfortable experience for me. Although it was of course somewhat painful (especially for a first-​timer with thick hair like me), the results were fantastic. Not only is she very skilled at what she does, but she is super friendly and very easy to talk to. She is so good at distracting me from the pain with conversation, and our conversations are always really great. She keeps the studio very clean, she is professional and judgement-​free, and she’s just an overall great person to be around! I would most definitely recommend this place/​Leslie, especially if you’re having some first-​timer jitters.

This is a one woman show and she rents office space in the larger spa area in this part of la jolla. she is an amazing woman and super personable. she seems like the coolest surfer chick youll ever meet. she knows a lot about sugaring and is exceptionally talented in it. there are only a few other places that do this, but i only recommend CLEO sugaring. there are goods and bads between waxing vs. sugaring and my advice is to try them both and find your personal favorite.

I’ve been getting waxed on and off for the past few years. I switched to getting sugared regularly about 6 months ago after noticing a huge difference in ingrowns/​recovery time. This was my first time at CLEO and I have to say it was my best hair removal experience yet! Leslie was super thorough, friendly, and professional. Studio was super clean and comforting! Could not recommend her more. (She also does $ 45 Brazilians for students!)

Not only was she flexible with appointment times, but also offers great prices for students! I have been getting sugared for about 4 years now and recently moving back to San Diego I did not know where to go! I tried a few spots and hated it! I found Cleo sugaring online in a Google search and was reluctant to try. I texted Leslie and she was quick with a reply and and scheduling time! Which I am supper big on since I am as well in the beauty industry! When I showed up to her spot in the salon suites it was so cute and clean!!! LESLIE IS THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS. I’ve tried all the other estheticians that sugar and she is the best. She never leaves my skin irritated, and makes it impossible for you to feel uncomfortable! Leslie is amazing! I’ve been getting sugared for about a year now and she is by far the best I’ve been too! She used all organic products and I have no redness. She even did after care which I’ve never had before and it’s so good and soothing!
