From racing safety gear to the actual parts you need to create a racecar, we sell it all. We sell a huge range of helmets for all skill levels, drivers gear, tires and wheels, race car prep parts, suspension components, gauges, and OEM replacement parts. We even sell the fun stuff like books and videos.

C2 Motorsports is owned and staffed by four car and racing nuts who over 30 years of experience in performance racing. Our business model is based on service, fair pricing, and participation in the performance car community. Everyone who answers the phone or helps a customer here is both an owner of the business and a racer.

C2 carries all the products a sports car enthusiast needs to go racing, or just enhance their car’s on-​street performance. Call us and we’ll help you find what you need!

History

Established in 2005.

C2 was founded in 2005 by two local gearheads, Ron Chapman and Steve Coe. Both are veteran road racers and autocrossers, and they were not impressed by local retail support for their passion. So, with Ron’s financial expertise and Steve’s retail background, they put all the pieces together and opened the store on March 1, 2005. Since then, we have added many additional product lines, and created our own niche in the sale, mounting, and balance of ultra high performance tires.

Our owner, Ron Chapman, had a friend in the car racing parts business who was unhappy. They both decided to open a business because the market was under-​served. The two partners had some service issues with merchants in town and they thought they could better with their own business endeavor. Turns out they were right, and C2 Motorsports, The Racers Store has been a big hit ever since!

Before this industry, Ron was a commercial lender. He went to business school where he found entrepreneurship to be the most interesting. He worked part time at the shop until 2010, and when he got out of the banking industry began working there full time.

seems like a good shop with nice ppl working here. came here looking for racing gloves and the guy (forgot his name) came over and helped me out and letting me try all different kinds of glove to see which one i like more and sizing. unfortunately they didnt have the size in the glove that i wanted. they did offer to order it for me and will arrive in the next few days. but i was on vacation and that was my last day around that area. however i did spotted a crx race car as i was walking around the shop and then started a convo with him about it which was cool.

Good shop that can obtain many hard to find professional safety items. The owner /​manager is very helpful to noobs and takes the time to break down what you need to know. On top of this, they also support the local autocross community.

The only place I will go to order my tires and get my racing gear from. It’s really hard to find places that understand your specific needs. Ron, Matt, and Kristen are extremely knowledgeable about a variety of tires and specific racing applications. I also love the fact they have they have helmets in stock, making for quick transactions in case you need one. They also carry really nice driving gloves too. I’ll be ordering some new z2’s for my bmw soon! Thanks C2!

Awesome place. The guys are super friendly and very knowledgeable about all forms of motorsports. I bought my racing helmet here for a good price. Their selection in store isn’t that much, but they can order most items for you. The only place on San Diego you can buy auto racing specific gear the same day.

Stopped by today and met with Matt. Even though I didn’t buy anything today, he helped me tighten up my loose valve stem at no charge. He was also very willing to share his knowledge on a variety of subjects and didn’t rush me out.
Shops like these with experienced proprietors who understand the concept of good customer service are few and far between these days. I’m a proponent of supporting local businesses and Matt has earned a loyal customer in me.

I ordered a fresh set of rubber for rear wheels on my M3. I wanted to support a local race shop and get a feel for their business before committing to work on the car. A quick check on Unilocal pointed me to C2. Ron took my order over the phone after getting the tire size and billing info. He was courteous and answered all my questions well. Everything seemed to be on track.
I was busy at the office so I had my daughter drop off the loose rear wheels to C2 for the tire swap. When I got home from work that evening, I noticed the tires were the wrong size. I checked the invoice and Ron had the correct size written down but ordered the wrong size tire. I call him the next day and he says he can order the correct size and schedule to swap them out the following week. He also offered a free mount/​balance for my next set of tires. I agree to move forward and they get the correct tires mounted the second time around. That hurdle’s over.
A couple months later, I call him for a corner balance and alignment. He states they can’t align cars due to lack of equipment but they can corner balance for $ 150 if all the work is completed in a two hour window. This isn’t the optimum approach for accuracy, not to mention for pricing. I ask him if he’d place my free tire mount/​balance as any credit toward the corner balance. He declines stating that the corner balance is more involving than a tire mount/​balance. I thank him kindly for his time and go on my way.
I’m not happy with my experience at C2. I feel Ron didn’t genuinely attempt to compensate his initial error. I had to make two trips to his shop and endure down time while waiting to get the correct tires mounted. I’m not getting that back. Is it that difficult to offer up some credit and save me from the obvious? Apparently it is for Ron.

I purchased a SA2010 helmet today and really liked the service I received. The staff and owner (Ron) were friendly and knowledgeable. It helps a great deal that their prices are competitive with online stores and they offer discounts for members of sanctioning bodies like SCCA and NASA. I will definitely return for my future driving gear needs.

I’ve bought an air filter here and had my tires mounted and balanced. I trust them more than discount and they were cheaper too. Not to mention, they’re knowledgeable. Matt and Ron both are involved in autocross and their expertise helped me decide on which air filter to get and even which Miata I ended up buying for competition!

After days of research to find as many different places that sold car racing gear, this was the only one I found. And with the amazing reviews, I had my hopes set high. I was not disappointed.
Matt helped me find and try on different Snell 2010 helmets until I found the perfect one. I’m new to the whole racing motorsport, he was awesome enough to answer all of my questions. What else can I say, the man is patient and, above all, passionate about racing! He even gave me a tour of the shop. I’ll be back and w/​out hesitation and I’d recommend this place to any enthusiast.

The only place I could find in San Diego that sells Snell rated helmets. The owner is really nice and autocrosses himself, and I love the idea of having someone you can ask who is actually knowledgeable and better yet, passionate.
I had a lot of questions about racing in general, as I was just getting into motorsports, and he went over his store hours telling me about why he thought it didn’t work out for him, and what I need to do if I want to be a race car driver too.
He was extremely kind and helpful, and I’m really glad I came to the shop instead of buying the helmet online.

Steve is one of the nicest people I’ve ever done business with. Knowledgeable & passionate about motor-​sports, especially older Japanese sports cars. He’s a good source for most all car parts even if they aren’t race cars and he’ll work hard to get you a good price. Plus he has several PS2’s set up with racing seats so you can race while he sets up your car. An excellent source for basic race gear, helmets, suits, safety stuff, & tires.

It took me a while to find a place that sold car racing gear in San Diego. Surprisingly hard to find.
Glad I found this place though. Run by two guy, Steve and his partner, who both race in autocrosses, etc. They know their stuff and are really nice. Steve helped me find a great helmet w/​o breaking the bank. I get any misc race stuff I need here. Cool shop, worth going out of your way to go here.
