Bodywork By Dru

I’ve had tight muscles and stiffness since I can remember, but once I hit 30, I started to notice it was really starting to negatively affect my daily routines, limiting my strength training, and resulting in injuries when playing sports. It was suggested to me by a physical trainer to try a deep tissue massage which I had never done before and tried two others before Dru that were more «relaxing» and didn’t do anything. Dru’s approach is more intense (in a good way) in that he really digs in and gets at the right spots to really loosen up the muscles. He’s super knowledgeable about the human anatomy, knows exactly where the tight and pain points are, and knows how to work them out. On top of that he is incredibly personable. Depending on how tight you are, it could be painful, but it’s well worth it.
For the first time in many years I can go to the gym without feeling back tightness that had previously been limiting my training! I was looking for some help to «reset» my body such that I could get to a point where stretching wasn’t a horrible experience and I could have a greater range of motion. Dru has really helped with this during the sessions as well as providing additional suggestions/​exercises to do on my own time. I’ve been 3 times now and a day or two after each session I really notice a huge difference. Highly recommend if you’re looking to get your body back into shape before we all got desk jobs sitting all day.

I went to Dru yesterday and was a little nervous going to a new masseuse but he was awesome! His deep tissue massages are not for the faint of heart and all the pain will be worth it in the end. I felt very comfortable with him and definitely will be going back! He will make your visit worth every penny!

I exercise regularly doing a variety of cardiovascular, weight training, and yoga exercises. I’ve been seeing Dru for deep tissue massage for at least 1 year.
Dru knows what he’s talking about! If you are an athlete, do any type of sport or exercise, and need a good fix for your tight and sore muscles, Dru’s the guy for you! Even if you just like deep tissue and want a therapeutic massage, he’ll give you what you need. He has a background as a personal trainer so he understands how the muscles all work together and what to do for different problem areas. I’ve never had such a knowledgeable massage therapist before and that’s why I keep going back to him; I don’t want to risk wasting my money on someone else! He even gives you tips on what you can do at home to continue easing your muscles.
On top of being knowledgeable, he is very kind. He’s easy to talk to and doesn’t make you feel weird or awkward at all. Knowledge + good character = winner!

One of THE Best masseuse in San Diego. My shoulders and back were all messed up when I arrived. After a 1 hour session, I felt so much better. I’ve never felt so relaxed after 1 hour of deep tissue massage. He’s very knowledgeable and very honest. Definitely a repeated client.

I can’t imagine finding a better massage /​bodywork therapist in San Diego — Dru is simply the BEST. From me, that’s saying a lot — I’ve had a many massages, all types of bodywork, and physical therapy for chronic hip imbalances and pain. He’s better than anyone I’ve seen at Canyon Ranch (one of the country’s best wellness resorts), and as good as my favorite physical therapist.
I signed up for a 60-​minute massage, but mid-​session I switched to 90 minutes!
You can tell Dru is really dedicated to the work and helping people. As others have said, he’s very knowledgable.
I live in DC, but if I lived in San Diego, Dru is the ONLY person I’d go to for bodywork/​massage.

Such an awesome spot, Dru asked many questions about my employment and my daily activities. He quickly figured out what to work on.
I’m really looking forward to my next visit, I went back to work the next day after my massage and I felt great with the pain in my back and shoulder gone!

I was amazed at his genuine talent as well as the effort he put into the session. This is not a massage this is actual therapy where you walk out feeling 100% lighter on your feet than when you walked in. He is a healer — but even if you have no pain you will thank yourself for seeing him because he will uncover what you may have never known was there!

It’s too bad a many-​year client drives 45 minutes to be confronted by Dru about the use of the word ‘arrogant’ in a text when he has essentially been unresponsive to texts and attempts to schedule. After many years of being a client, Dru has decided to NOT be in the client service business and attempt to be an arrogant king of his universe. I thought his goal was to h-​e-​a-​l, not to be the cause of stress and treat long-​term clients shabbily. What a sad turn of events the last 3 months, but I’ll try to focus on the many good sessions. Hope you learn and prosper.

I’ve worked with Dru for a year now. He was my coworker and now go to therapist for bodywork of my own. He is an amazing therapist who has not only helped me with my pain but taught me techniques as well. Arrogance is not a word by any means I would describe him as. More along the lines as humble and caring to his clients. I would recommend anyone to him in a second!

I enjoyed my session with Dru. He knows what he’s doing and really loosened up my tight back. The location is convenient. Parking is easy. The spa is clean and neat. He has package prices that are affordable.

Dru has a unique style of bodywork that really got the energy moving in my body. He was trained in Chinese bodywork/​massage therapy, and I can really feel a difference over just regular swedish style massage therapy. I came out feeling very energized yet relaxed! VERY enjoyable experience.
Besides being very talented, he has a wonderful, upbeat, easygoing personality… I felt very comfortable and cared for! :)

Dru is simply the best. If you are looking to ease tight muscles and feel better Dru is your man. He is so friendly and accommodating and incredibly knowledgable on health/​wellness.

I was not sure what to expect when I came to Dru. He is an amazing therapist. Strong bodywork, with out pain. He is knowledgeable and communicates well with his clients. I twisted my ankle years ago and have had pain ever since. He was able to target the area, work on the scare tissue build up and relieve pain all the way from my foot to my neck. I am going back this week and can’t wait!

I’ve experienced a number of massage therapists but when I found someone who I thought was great, I still had a feeling that something was missing! I hadn’t found ‘The One’ yet! So after reading all the positive reviews about Dru’s work, I just had to give him a try; and I’m so, so happy that I did!
As mentioned by others, he’s very honest, knowledgeable, makes you feel comfortable, and truly cares about «fixing» you. Wherever you tell him you have pain/​tightness/​etc, he will target the source and focus on it until you feel relief. Dru also does a great job suggesting different stretches/​mobility exercises you can do daily to help any problem areas as well!
At my most recent visit, Dru was able to help relieve tension headaches I was getting, which was pretty unusual for me. It blew my mind to know that my teeth grinding caused a lot of my jaw/​neck/​shoulder muscles to really tighten up and a result, cause an annoying headache for days. Now I’m more conscious about it, and know how to relieve the tight muscles near my jaw to the back of my neck — thanks to Dru!
Again, I’m so glad to have found Dru and always look forward to his bodywork!

If you like to be oiled up during your massages, then this isn’t the place to come. Just like everyone else is saying. Dru is there to work on your broken parts. Have big issues, then book the 90 min. session. He’s very friendly and I always enjoy our conversations. The talking is all on my part, so don’t think Dru is a talker. I just need a way to distract my brain from the pleasures of manipulation Dru creates.

If you are looking for a therapist to help you heal, Dru is your man. He is very professional and knowledgeable. His skilsl surpasses your typical relaxing massage because he goes to the root cause of your imbalance. I am very appreciative for the work he did on my neck and shoulders and I look forward to my next session with him.

FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY, I think I’ve found my guy! Ok, not that guy but the one who can help keep you going so you can keeping killing it! I’ve had several sports massage therapists, 3 to be exact in 3 different cities in Washington in the past, before I moved to SD but it’s been a struggle to find someone who I’ve liked here that actually knows how to do sports therapy. In 1.5 years, 4 out of 5 different therapists all claim they do sports therapy but many of them really do deep pressure for relaxation and not sports therapy (yes, there is a difference). There was one who was actually legit but I didn’t prefer some of the techniques he used thus why I kept searching. Granted this is only my first massage with Dru, I feel well-​experienced to say that he knows what he’s doing! The previous 4 therapists I saw gave me the ‘deer in the headlights’ look when I told them about my injuries. They of course played along like they understood my issues and needs, but when it came down to getting the work done, I felt like I’d just wasted a good $ 70 – 80 to do essentially what I could do with a lacrosse ball. I work in the medical field and am well-​versed with my history: hypermobile, hyperflexible, double-​jointed, hyper-​extender, left hip surgery, right shoulder injury (from Crossfit), and right hamstring hyperextension (from yoga). I know, sounds ridiculous but I’m sharing this so you have an idea that clearly I need a therapist who knows how to help me take the best care of what’s left of my body: P The office is located on the first floor of a medical office building. I don’t think there’s a parking lot but there’s usually street parking within a couple of blocks unless you go on the weekend when something crazy might be happening in the area. The office is in Pacific Beach which can have quite a bit of traffic in and out especially during rush hour. The office is well kept and is shared among a few different practitioners. As I sat waiting, the client before me came out and was a VERY muscular gentleman who looked like a football player so I knew immediately, if Dru was working on that guy then this was a good sign. Dru has a very pleasant demeanor and good energy. He’s very mellow but well-​informed and asks leading questions to determine what areas need the most focus and attention during your session. In addition, Dru previously was a personal trainer so I think that gives him additional background of exercises/​workouts and body mechanics that can be offset or adversely affected by certain activities and exercises. The room is clean and comfortable and Dru gets right to work. We did some psoas work right out the gate and that solidified right off the bat that I was in good hands. Of course, it was quite uncomfortable but I got what I was looking for, but more importantly, what I need! Dru only uses enough lotion to reduce pulling on the skin but you don’t leave feeling like you’re entire body is greased up, which is nice, unless that’s the kinda massage you’re looking for. The bodywork was very focused on the areas I really needed attention and although I could’ve done with more time, Dru did a great job to cover all the bases in the schedule appointment. Dru has obviously built a good following of clients and can be difficult to get in to, so make sure to look ahead to book appointments, which can be done online. He also offers a multi-​package discount so if you think you’d like to see him regularly that can probably help you save some cash. Thus far, I’m sold and look forward to future visits to help keep my body tuned up!

Ok. Ill try to make this short and not too preachy, But its hard when you find such an amazing combination of a kind, peaceful soul and incredibly knowledgeable skills. That is Dru.
Even before Dru began to work on me, just meeting him, you can tell that he is «good people» Friendly, warm, intelligent and all around cool guy. Very easy to make you feel relaxed and in good hands. Mix with that the deep knowledge and skills that he has for his craft and I am one happy customer! He knows how to treat any body aches or injuries with professional precision and with as minimal discomfort as possible. He really knows his stuff. So glad I found him!!!

Dru is fantastic — both kind and professional, and definitely knows what he’s doing. He was even able to identify which way I crossed my legs and on what side I carried my purse! I have a Groupon for three sessions, and for my first session he focused on my shoulders and lower back. I spend most of my day sitting at a computer, and my back is constantly on the edge of pain. I’m always nervous about lifting something a bit too heavy or just twisting the wrong way and throwing it out.
As others have said, this isn’t a massage where you gently fall asleep as someone pats your back — it hurts! But I’ve had back pain worse than anything Dru did, so it’s definitely worth it to suffer a little now and enjoy the rewards later. When I stood up at the end, my arms almost lifted up on their own, the muscles were so free and loose. I’m looking forward to using my next two sessions and seeing if I notice any improvement over time.

I wanted to take the time and write a review for Dru after he saved me from agonizing pain in my piriformis (a small tight, angry muscle gluteal region). After explaining my issue he methodically got to work on the area, releasing painful trigger points and kneaded it into blissful submission. By the end of the session I could walk pain free and he explained how by buying a foam roller and using it daily, I could greatly improve my situation. I did as he suggested and can’t thank him enough!
Dru has great intuition and skill — essential qualities for a top notch healer. In my instance, because I had specific problem, he focused in and it was more along the lines of sports injury therapy, which was perfect for what I needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him for specific issues or overall relaxing body work.
