Best Western Cabrillo Garden Inn

First of all, we spent hours on the internet trying to find a fairly decent hotel at a reasonable price. We settled on the BW Cabrillo Garden Inn and were certainly not disappointed. As we pulled in to the parking lot we were pleasantly pleased that the hotel looked as nice as the pictures on the website. I wanted to arrive early because I’d read on Unilocal that they may possibly run out of parking passes. Check-​in is at 3:00 pm, but we arrived at noon, and we got our parking pass AND they happened to have a room available at that time. Olga, at the front desk, was extremely friendly, courteous, & gave us maps and helpful tips on where to go and what to see (she is the best!). We were pleased with the accommodations, the service, and the breakfast was a big plus! Close proximity (in walking distance) to Gaslamp District and all it’s restaurants. We will certainly be back next time we’re in SD.

Overall is a nice place Carlos is very helpful but there was no parking when we got there because they had sold all their permit already he provided a map and we were only a couple of blocks to gas lamp the room is cozy but clean it had a mini fridge take your own shampoo they had a sitting area outside I was on the first floor and a sitting area on the roof it doesn’t have a great few just of the construction going on they provide continental breakfast very yummy eggs sausage pancake waffle Danish muffins cereal toast oj and milk and coffee I liked this place I stayed sept 26 – 27

I loved staying here! Checking — in was very easy; the woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable, it had all of the amenities I look for in a hotel. in the morning we enjoyed a delicious complimentary breakfast (eggs, bacon, french toast, hash browns, fruit, and coffee) on the hotel’s lovely rooftop patio. We had great views of Downtown. The location was perfect for going out to the Gaslamp District (walking distance) and easy for driving to other sites in San Diego. It also felt very safe and quiet.
I would give 5 stars but our AC wasn’t working very well. I am sure if we brought it up to the front desk they would have happily assisted us, but we weren’t troubled enough by it to do so.
I would definitely stay again and encourage others to stay when visiting San Diego.

I was there may 21 – 23, 2015. So glad I did stay here after reading the reviews. I was there for a padres vs cubs game and so glad I stayed two nights there. My room was very clean. I had two double beds. Since I got there around 1 pm on 5÷21÷15, I was able to check in early.
What was really nice, I was able to cancel my second room with no penalty. I forgot her name, but she is very nice young Latin lady that help me show the map and how to get around town. Props to her and if and when I come back to stay there, I hope she’s there to help me check in.
Breakfast for two days was good. I like the viewing they have available on the roof. Nice couches up there and a gazebo. What I like most, I was able to walk to Petco park to and from with ease.
Very close to bars, restaurants and gaslamp. If your looking for a simple clean place and not to expensive, stay here. My bill was only 342.42 for two nights. Not bad considering the big high rise hotels are more.
Self parking for hotel guest was only $ 10 a day for me. Pretty good considering how strict parking officers enforce tickets a lot in downtown if your park on the street for extended periods of time.
Overall I had a nice stay. It was peaceful and no problems with outside noise or neighbors.

We had a good experience here. It was a great location for a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon participant. I was able to walk to the start line at Balboa Park (a little over a mile away) and my family was able to walk to the finish line to meet me (about a mile away-​Petco Park). This was important as parking in the area can be such a nightmare, especially the weekend of the marathon. The hotel itself was cute and reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area. The room was simple, clean and had a mini fridge and a coffee maker. I left the hotel too early to enjoy the hot breakfast but my husband said it was good. The only potential issue they have is limited parking. We arrived mid-​afternoon and got the last spot! So calling to reserve a space ahead might be a good idea if you will be checking in late. We were stoked that it was only $ 15 to park for the night though since many of the other hotels in the area charge a lot more. I was also appreciative that they allowed us to keep our car there until I was done with the marathon. Overall, great customer service and a cute place to stay. We will be back!

A small but quaint inn primely located nearby yet not quite inside the Gaslamp District. Unfortunately we didn’t take advantage of its proximity while we were there, but if you are looking to enjoy the nightlife without paying the price for a Gaslamp hotel, this is a good choice!
Other pros included complimentary breakfast and Wi-​Fi. Breakfast consisted of hot foods such as sausages, hash browns, eggs, and pancakes, with a waffle maker available, as well as prepackaged pastries and yogurt. There are only two floors of the hotel; the breakfast room is located on the first floor next to the lobby and makes for easy access grabbing food and going on your way.
On the other hand, while our room provided sufficient shelter for one night, there were a few cons that we weren’t expecting. First, the bathroom (s) next door and/​or below (we were on the second floor) were fairly loud. Concerning our own bathroom, there was shampoo provided but no conditioner or shower gel, which is typically present at most places. Thankfully, we had brought some of our own bathroom necessities just in case. Finally, parking was $ 15/​night in their small lot.
Overall, the room served its purpose, we chowed down on some breakfast (food is always a plus), and the employees at the front desk were helpful and friendly. A shame that we didn’t walk to Gaslamp from here but if that’s on your schedule, consider booking here!

Vegas and San Diego are my usual getaways. In Vegas, I am all about the spendy hotels, because I never leave where I am staying. Pool, booze, I need nothing else. But in SD, I want to be out and about, so this time around, I didn’t want to drop a bunch of bills on a place where I really wouldn’t be at besides to sleep, so I picked the BW. Good call on my part! This is a great place if you are looking to just hang your hat. It is in a prime location, and the staff was helpful as well as adorable! I usually get sketched out staying places with the exterior door, but at no point did I feel unsafe. I would highly recommend this place! And the ice machine is on the second floor… took a few laps to find it =)

Lovely and charming inn just outside of downtown. This is a great choice for travelers to San Diego. First it’s lovely. Really just adorable. The price is right. It’s cheaper than other hotels around Gaslamp or Downtown. Like all hotels in the area they charge for parking ($ 15), but the nightly rate is lower and there seems to be enough parking spaces for each guest… unlike other hotels in the area. Our room was clean and simple. The owners are very personable. I had a long conversation with them. It feels more like a guest house than a hotel. Finally its location is perfect: a nine minute drive to old town; a nine minute drive to the zoo; a nine block walk to Petco Park; a five block walk to the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter; a five block walk to the center of Downtown. Plus we walked to the museums at Balboa Park (1.5 miles, twenty minutes). I would stay here anytime I was in SD and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks for making our vacation so great.

Though the room was small, it was clean and well appointed. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was better than most. A quaint gem near the Gaslamp District.

I have done quite a bit of traveling and have used Unilocal for years now (on a daily basis while traveling) but finally created an account just to review this hotel. It is not five stars because it’s the most spectacular room with ostrich eggs served for breakfast or anything but the service was unbelievable. Carlos (who works up front) was so helpful and knowledgeable about the area that I ended up just talking with him for over a hour. In addition to the service, its in a great location, the room is always clean, breakfast gets changed up a little each day so it doesn’t get boring, internet is reliable and the bed is SO comfortable.
My wife and I decided we will only stay here while in San Diego. Forever. The end.

I loved this little inn. It was much nicer than I was expecting it to be, considering it is a Best Western.
The sheets were clean and fresh, the mirrors and overall décor was a little more elevated than I’ve typically experienced at a Best Western, and the breakfast selections were pretty decent.
It was right around the corner from the reception venue (University Club Atop Symphony Towers) for a wedding I was in so it was extremely convenient as well.
The sign outside said something along the lines of «A Small Luxury Inn».I wouldn’t go THAT far. But it was definitely nicer than a typical Best Western, I’m assuming hence the «Plus».
Anyway, cute inn and all the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Had a really positive experience. The location was great, although naturally they only had parking for half of the patrons, we were able to find street parking close by. I thought it was charming and felt really comfortable. Nice clean rooms, flat screen/​cable TV, mini-​fridge, FREE wi-​fi, comfy bed and good pillows. The staff was nice and they serve a really good full breakfast! I’d definitely stay there again!

I just finished a two-​day stay and highly recommend it. The rooms are small but efficiently appointed and ultra-​clean. The free breakfast was fresh & delicious; it was a full-​on meal, too, not just a Continental breakfast. The refrigerator was nice, and the in room coffee maker made a tasty cup. There is an ice machine and soda machine on site. All employees were gracious & helpful. My room on the first floor was really quiet considering the location of the Inn. The A/​C worked like a charm. I will definitely stay there again.

Had a very nice 2 night stay. I thought the place looked very charming and quaint on the outside. The customer service was spot on. Very nice and accommodating and also every time I left the room for the day, they made up my room impeccably, sparing no detail. Loved it. Good distance to dtsd and little italy. The rooms were clean, but small as others have said. Mine had a cooler, but no microwave.
The free continental break fast was nice with tiny change-​ups each day, but there was always eggs, cereal, meat item, bread, fruit, coffee, tea, and microwave.
The cons would be that there are no usually little perks like a swimming pool or little gym. I was there for business so I didn’t have time and didn’t mind, but I imagine I would have appreciated it being there anyway.
Another review said there was no ice machine, but there is. Its on the second floor alongside a soda machine.
Also, because the place is beautifully decorated with shrubbery, I think there is an small issue of fruit flies and tiny bit of mosquitos even. I definitely had fruit flies in my room on the first floor which wasn’t too bothersome. And sometimes I would find a little mosquito. Like I said, not a huge deal, but I’ve never had that issue in a hotel before so it was a bit sad face. Overall I had a good stay though.

Not a terrible place if you’re staying only two night or so. The free breakfast was not very good considering I’ve had some pretty good free ones at other places. In fact I opted to buy breakfast elsewhere. This place is truly and inn, only two floors and pretty small. Now for the good: Walking distance to all the Gas Lamp Districts bars, late night front desk guy Carlos was awesome, he knows San Diego like the back of his hand! Rooms are clean and house keeping staff is on it big time. Would recommend for short business stays only. 107 a night, I think the price is based on location mostly.

I was disappointed when we arrived at the best western. If you sneeze, you will pass it. The rooms were clean, but small. Big flat screen and a mini fridge were nice. Also, the free continental breakfast was pretty decent. However, there was no ice machine or vending machine on site, which was weird because they gave us an ice bucket. Also, there was no pool. Parking was about $ 10 a day, which is not bad for downtown. Overall, it was clean which was nice, but I’d stay elsewhere next time.

This is a very nice hotel for one or two people. It’s quiet, CLEAN, located in a walking– distance –to-​many-​things-​spot and the staff is so very helpful. Rooms are comfortable but not large and there’s a flat screen TV, a fridge, a dresser, a table and chair, free Wi Fi and very comfortable bed plus pillow choices, which I really appreciate. The whole facility is clean and well cared for, with little tables and chairs and plants on the floors outside the room. There’s a rooftop spot to sit and visit — lovely couch and tables and chairs — very relaxing. I was there on business and appreciated the free breakfast and $ 10 parking, too. My two colleagues agreed — good value and quiet place to sleep and get up and out to work with the highway a block or two away.
