Barn Brewery

I like a good brewery and I liked this one. In addition to the cold Farm House Ale I enjoyed, I ordered the house patty melt with a side of shoe string fries. The patty melt was $ 8 and the fries were $ 5.
The cold ale hit the spot for a late Friday afternoon and the patty melt did as well, however I did feel the melt needed a little help along the way. First of all, they only offer sourdough bread for their patty melts, not the traditional flavorful rye bread. Also, the bread they did use for this melt, was not evenly griddles which left the great with soft spots. In fact, it was barely toasted at all, as a result it was a little difficult to handle.
The beef patty was good, but they did not not put a good enough seer or charring on the exterior of the all beef patty. The meat was lightly seasoned and could of used some salt. One thing that shocked me when I bit into the patty melt was the fact that they used ketchup on the melt, rather than the traditional Thousand Island dressing. I am not a ketchup fan so I wish they would mention that they use ketchup or at the very least, mention under the ingredients list on the menu. The grilled onions were great and so was the combination of Swiss and cheddar cheese.
The shoe string fries were tasty and came very well seasoned with salt and black pepper, but they were not the crispy little critters they should of been. They were limp and only lukewarm. I am not sure if they little fries were made to order. In addition to the toasted bread and axing that ketchup, these fries definitely need to be improved upon.
Normally this type of review would exhibit a 2 star rating, but the beer was quite good, and more importantly, it was cold baby. Also, the service Danielle, the bar keep at the time, was outstanding, so three stars it is…

I like this place. Not too crowded, just enough food items on the menu. A variety of beers to chose from at reasonable prices. Music is fun and not blaring, you can actually hear the person next to you! Will we be back? YES!

Management obviously cares about their customers. Thanks for quickly resolving last night’s misunderstanding. Cheers!

Quite empty on a random Thursday night.
Indoor seating, out door seating, and bar seating available.
Pretty spacious inside and doesn’t get stuffy because of their open entrance.
We weren’t greeted when we walked in and awkwardly stood in front of the bar for a minute or so cause we weren’t sure if we should sit down anywhere first or order a beer at the bar first.
The bartender girl didn’t seem very friendly. Very nonchalant.
Furthermore, can I just rant about how she doesn’t know how to properly pour a beer?
My friend’s beer was 75% foam. What is this sorcery??? Someone who works at a brewery but can’t pour beer properly?
Overall, they have some good beer selections, but it’s a pretty non-​exciting place to be at.

Again, another new treasure to be discovered. I love it when I find a place that I did not expect it in this location. Great ambiance, friendly service, COLD BEER.

So the mister and I wanted to check out some of the local San Diego breweries, but we also wanted a bite to eat, so we decided to check out Barn Brewery. When we got there it was crowded, but we found a spot. I was ready to order, but found out that the kitchen was closed. It was only past 8:30pm. That’s too early for the kitchen to be closed. BOO! Not wanting our night to be wasted, we ordered some beers. I had the Belgian ale and the mister had the stout. They were good, but I really wanted to nosh on something while I had my beer. The area is interesting. It wasn’t too far from where we were staying in Mission Valley. It looks like it is gentrifying with other breweries in the area like Belching Beaver. Sounds like a future pub crawl in the works. We were able to find parking in the street, so that wasn’t too bad.

Nothing spectacular. I appreciate the fact that they brew beer here, but they are way way way over priced. Their beers are meh. If you want to be woowed by awesome beers go to belching beaver or fall which are very close to this spot. My wife and I also had a burger and fries which ended up being near 20 dollars. Why? Prolly won’t be back, sorry, just didn’t think it was worth the money.

Then the menu itself is very small, and over priced, a burger without fries is about $ 10 each and not much option to choose from
we understand it’s a brewery, they offer maybe less than 10 beers, not too bad i guess for a small barn
Then we found a seat but been waiting for over 20 mins no one even come serve you plus the weird drawing classes happened at the same time … Then we decided to leave… disappointed

My brother and I walked into this place deciding on wanting to order a beer and it just had a distinctive consistant foul odor/​fart smell and we were just too I pleased to even order so we left :/

Like the beers here, it has a nice vibe, the bartenders are friendly and I noticed that they have food as well. Has a nice little balcony/​patio that overlooks El Cajon Blvd, perfect for people watching while you sip on a good pint.

This place might have just got itself a regular! Awesome sports bar that I can bring my dog to?! Hell. Yes.
I wasn’t drinking that night but my friends enjoyed all the brews that they got. They have some pretty cool non-​alcoholic drinks. I really wanted to try the cold brew coffee on nitro but they had already run out by 6pm. I got the ginger kefir drink which was surprisingly really good! However, I was only able to get one glass because they ran out of that too! I’d suggest to keep the non-​alcoholic drinks a bit more stocked because even my friends who were drinking wanted to get some of the non-​alcoholic drinks.
We got some food as well and everyone enjoyed their meals! My friend raved about their regular ‘ol hamburger and was quite pleased with it. I got the portabello mushroom and goat cheese sandwich and it was tasty. I’m not sure that toasted sliced bread was a better choice than a hamburger bun but it really didn’t affect the flavors, just the way I ate it haha.
All in all it was a great time and I will definitely be back!

Small, cozy sports bar. I enjoyed the décor consisting of several strings of lights, a cozy fireplace and cabin feel (minus the red cushion booths in back).
Large selection of beers for a smaller establishment yet they offer the typical bar menu of burgers and appetizers. Ask for no salt on your fries since there is a table salt available.
Service was alright; the bartender took orders from 2 others customers who came after us but then again we might have looked like we weren’t ready to order?
I probably won’t come back but at least I had fun for the night!

Lots of seating, a good selection of beers on tap, and friendly staff. The night I came they were having a holiday party and my group friends and I felt we were intruding in the party. But we weren’t as they were also open for business and just as friendly and inviting. Even offered us to join in and shared more drinks with us. Like I said friendly staff. Plus their stout 9% and tastes pretty darn good earns another star. They have a lot for parking (star) and they play old school jams. What more do you want for a place to catch up with friends and down some drinks? Barn brewery thanks.

There is trivia night on Tuesdays, so I’m naturally there. This place had everything I was looking for! The brewery had a lot of seating, a great intimate feel, plenty of TVs to feed my NBA addiction, lots of drinks on tap, and really friendly staff. Trivia night was fun and Barn had some great prizes like a flight of beers as well as gift cards for winners. I got the burger with bacon jam, arugula, cheddar, pickles, and grilled onions – it was fantastic. The bacon jam was thick and hands-​down tasty. The duck fat fries were good, but I would’ve liked a bit more for my order. The other items looked really good, too! The menu was a little small and I wish there were a few more options to choose from.
In the end, this is a great place to hang out and I will definitely be headed back for some more Trivia. Team Cabo Wabo, OUT!

Okay so I came here with great expectations. Needless to say it was mediocre. Don’t get me wrong, the ambiance was good… warm/​comfortable. Now for my r view on the food and beer.
1. The Patty Melt w/​grilled onions: had no flavor. You’d think they’d add salt and seriously sauté the onions not just toss it in the grill for 10 secs and put it in the sandwich. NOT RECOMMENDED
2. The Barn Burger: Was okay. I think I had to drown the burger in extra horseradish mayo and honey mustard.
3. Duck fat fries: The name is totally misleading. The fries were like shoe string fries at the most. A grown man would need 2 – 3 orders.
4. Beer flight: had four options for $ 6. at the sound it was enticing bit at appearance it was depressing. seriously the flight appearance was like four standard shots. the small glasses used were not even filled to the top. c’mon man it’s beer not tequila. SMH
The only over the top feeling was the female bartender/​waitress assisting us at upon entering.
Would I recommend or bring friends to socialize here… sorry but no. At best a pit stop.

Picked this place to watch a sports game-​weekday around 5-​ish. They have a few TVs so it’s a good place to watch sports. Bartenders are nice and attentive — made sure I didn’t have an empty glass for too long. :) I appreciate that. They serve a limited menu for food so dogs aren’t allowed inside, but there’s a spacious patio. We watched the game from outside. They’re home brews are pretty good — Barn IPA is my fave. Lots of seating so it’s comfortable for groups and the bathroom is clean! Word on the street is that Barn is the same owner as Poor House. I’d definitely choose Barn over Poor House.
Taking one star away because it seems like they pick and choose which dogs can go in. If they fit in your bag, they are still a dog. Have the rule for everyone or not at all. Keep it fair.

Cute place, great ambiance. Open beams, rustic look, brick fireplace… great atmosphere for beer drinking. They have food too. Oh, and they have TVs for sports!
As for the beers…
The Saison (Weathervane) is hoppy, but yummy… I would highly recommend having this one. The Barn Hoppy Wheat is refreshing, but it didn’t wow me.
Didn’t eat this time, but plan to next time I come.

Very friendly, very casual place to go, you can even bring your dog. They have a small but good selection of beers to try. They also carry sour beers, a major plus to me, I love them.
There is parking in the back and on the street, in between 805 and 163 on El Cajon Blvd– closer to 805 or Texas St. so it’s pretty accessible.
The inside has plenty of room to house people, and is adjoined by another fantastic business that makes really good sandwiches. You are free to roam back and forth with food or drinks.
Everyone is very chill and laid back, I really enjoy this place, I recommend it! I drove bye so many times before I tried it. Now that I have I’ve been their 3x in a week and a half. That only happens when I’m extremely satisfied.

Observations: good design of the seated area; lots of beer options; food is coming soon (they aren’t sure when, but soon-​ish); they allow dogs; and they have fun bathroom door designs. Also, there is a giant stuffed moose head on the ceiling look down on one of the bar stools. You have to look closely for it on the ceiling. It would be creepy to be sitting in that stool, and suddenly look up and see a giant moose staring down at you.
Jury’s out on the complete review because they don’t have food yet.

After more than a year of delays due to permitting issues Barn Brewery is finally open for business! The brewpub offers about a half dozen house beers plus a healthy rotation of guest taps from the likes of Ommegang and Delirium Tremens, with a focus on saison-​styled brews that compliment the joint’s namesake. I found the house Rye IPA very consumable and happily washed it down with a slightly sweet house Hefe. These guys know how to make good beer.
The kitchen’s not open yet but you’re invited to bring food in from the Soup Shoppe next door (or anywhere else, I’m guessing) for the time being.
What the Barn really has going for it is location location location. There wasn’t much craft beer west of Tiger Tiger until you got to Small Bar, so for the folks who live between the two, especially those Barn-​side of Texas, this will be a convenient new watering hole.
The kitchen will eventually source meat from The Heart & Trotter across the street, and with Southpark’s Café Madeleine opening a new location next door it looks like the Barn will be anchoring a neat grouping of places to be excited about at Utah and El Cajon!
