Just got an update from a friend. This place has gone tango uniform, in other words tits up. Appears to have closed July 1 — no notice. What a bummer.

Baja Fresh SD: Mission Valley Sunday March 13, 2011 Four Stars Veggie Adventures: Episode #1. We split a grilled veggie burrito: grilled peppers, chilies, and onions; Black Beans; Melted Jack Cheese; Lettuce; Sour Cream and a plate of rice and pinto beans. It was delicious and filling. Plus the Salsa Bar is always awesome!

Don’t be hatin on Fresh Mex. Call me crazy, but why the heck didn’t I eat here sooner? After living in SD for nearly 6 years I finally venture here with a few coworkers and low and behold a new«favorite» is created! The Baja steak burrito is HUGE and simply flavorful and delicious. I love the salsa bar featuring at least 4 different fresh salsas. My favorite is the mango salsa which i unabashedly load up on because it makes me feel like the steak burrito(with guac) that I’m about to eat is actually«healthy». Well hey, fruit makes ANYTHING healthy, riiiight? Service always quick and friendly. The manager(tall w/glasses) is super friendly and didn’t make me feel guilty about eating here twice in one week. Hopefully I’ll try other menu items, although I don’t see straying from the Baja burrito anytime soon.

I know Baja Fresh from LA and this one in SD has the same basic food and appeal, BUT the quality of the food is sooo different. The salsas are great and the salsa bar was mostly clean, some salsa slopped over to the ice, but whatever. The girl who took my order was… high? Her lower lip/jaw hung open the whole time and there was the slightest glisten of drool pooling around her lower teeth and braces. Then came the burrito– stuffed with only rice and black beans with all of the chicken, and later the juice from the bean slop, at the bottom. I ordered something called«the diablo» but this is not what I expected. I will never go back to these payasos. Too bad, because this was my favorite place in Santa Monica to get a burrito.

Short and sweet, great prices, great service, fantastic food, dog friendly patio, it’s my go to location for healthy quick food, their vegetarian burrito is the best i’ve had to date. It’s rare I give a fast food joint 5 stars but this one deserves it.

This place should be called Baja Dirty! It was pretty damn filthy, and im talking every table, counter, chair, high chair & drink area. The employees of this place are a little too friendly with each other and not the customers. At one point I saw two people in the kitchen making out, omg WTF?! I was like I really don’t want my food catching mono. I received my order & it was missing the side of chips & guac so I went and stood in line again only to be cut off by some asshole jerk that cut the whole line to place an additional order. I’m like are you effin serious?! Ok so then baja lady is like oh sir wait I’m going to help her first ok great but then I’m like I didn’t get my guac… so it takes them like 5 mins to give me a 1oz. container of guac? ok so then I look at my burrito… r u effin kidding me it was smaller than it should have been for $ 7+. It was also a bit burnt how do you burn a freakin burrito? I ate a little less than half and i’m glad I didn’t eat it all because then the next day I got food poisioning from it. I know it was this because it was the only thing I had eaten before getting sick that night. I really wanted to eat baja fresh only because of the ordering app on iPhone lol. I won’t give up on baja fresh totally but I will not be going back to this baja dirty ever again.

I love how they show you the calorie content… truly helped me out on my decision making process. The best part about this place, aside from decent good food and the lovely salsa bar is the water bottle. 99 cent unlimited refills and its a cute old fashion gas station style liquid holder. LOVEIT! I’ll never go thirsty again.

This is a nice place. You order, you get nearly fast food, but it tastes better than getting a burger and fries. I really don’t care about the calories, and I add the enchilado sauce to the burrito. The service is so friendly, and the place is exceptionally clean. They are easily as prompt as rubio, and I like their food more. The drinks you fill yourself, so all in all, it is a great value. It is just unfortunate there isn’t better signage for this store.

Not quite fast food, but not table service either, Baja Fresh is my pick for a meal when I don’t have a lot of time. It’s certainly not as healthy as one might be led to believe, as evidenced by the nutrition facts on their website, but it is yummy anyways. Chicken taquitos with queso dipping sauce and sour cream is a week worth of calories, so I might as well throw in some chips and salsa roja. All under $ 7. It’s not authentic, but sometimes you just don’t have time to care. It beats the pants off of Rubio’s and La Salsa. Yum!

On my first ever trip to San Diego last year, the boyfriend(er… husband. Heh. Whoops.) took me to Baja Fresh for lunch because it was just down the road from his office. That was out in Mira Mesa but who wants to go there? Mission Valley is just down the Texas St Hill from my house and if I walk back up I can eat whatever I want when I’m down there. I cannot even begin to tell you how much better this is than 95% of the Mexican food I’ve ever had in Canada. Like I think there are maybe two restaurants I’ve sampled in Vancouver that would be considered tastier and they were ‘fancy’ Mexican, not fast food. I *love* the grilled Mahi tacos — slap a flour tortilla around that char grilled avocado-y goodness, dump in some extra mango salsa and a squeeze of lime, wrap it up tight and try to fit your mouth around it. Heaven. It’s always a chore for me to avoid licking the sauce off my hands where it’s dripped — nothing like the pasty Canadian chick in the corner making moaning noises and slurping her fingers to put the other diners off their meals. Drools.

Baja Fresh, I’ll never forget the first time I tried one in Chicago a few years ago. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal at any location. Fresh is one of my favorite concepts in general. Mexican also happens to be, combine the two and I could eat at Baja Fresh locations nearly every meal. Baja’s management/leadership continues to impress me with their ability to offer consistent quality and service at so many diverse locations in the US.

I hate driving around in Mission Valley so after shopping at Borders, I looked for the nearest place to grab a bite sans table service. I ordered a couple of fish tacos from Baja Fresh. I reminisced with myself about how I used to think Baja Fresh was a big treat when I lived in D.C. Of course, the Californian in me knew that Baja Fresh wasn’t real Mexican food, but now that I live in another place with abysmal fake Mexican food at exorbitant prices, I’d kill for a place like Baja Fresh to open up in my neighborhood(or neighbourhood, as the Canadians would say). I guess it’s all a matter of perspective.

Baja Fresh kicks Rubio’s ass any day in my book. I am a sucker for salsa bars and I love how their ala carte items come with tortilla chips. I am a fan of healthy mexican food, and foudn that the mahi fish taco was yummy with the pico de gallo and slices of avocado. Try the mango habanero salsa. The only annoyance I had with this particular location were the workers tloudly alking to each other in Spanish the whole time I was eating…

pros… pretty good healthy mexican food. when i want some healthy mexican food i go here. let me tell you, this is not very often. this place is pretty clean, and the service is friendly and fast too. there is a decent salsa bar and the bathrooms are usually pretty clean. the food is also pretty good. i get my usual order of carne asada burrito. this one is good, but i think there is a bit too much other stuff in it. onions, pico sauce, but at least no rice in there. otherwise quite nice. cons…i don’t really like the texture of the tortillas. i hate gummy flour tortillas. and this is the type they have here. but the actual filling is great.

I love the Baja steak burritos from this place. The burrito is the size of a giant torpedo and eating it makes me very happy. After eating one of these babies, I could fall into a vat of their pico de gallo and die a happy man.

Baja Fresh is quite all right. It lives up to its name. I like the tacos and burritos including the veggie burrito. They have a variety of items, including mexican salads. The salsa selections are a little weird in my opinion, failing to feature a regular kind of salsa. Food comes in classes and upgrades to their foods like«wet» and burritos with more stuff than others. I had an old roommate who loved the place and mistakenly called it Fresh Baja once and swore by the monster Dos Manos burrito, calling it a BUR-RI-TO! The place has an affiliation to Wendy’s.
