Adams Avenue Book Store

Really lovely Bibles on the second floor. But i went in looking for a book on the Titanic, and i couldn’t find any anywhere. Its a pretty basic subject, so it was weird that it was missing from the history section. Lot of war books, but not much else. I did get something and Ill def be back but they could do with more variety in certain areas on the first floor.

I absolutely love this place. Best bookstore I’ve been in San Diego, no contest. It’s so cozy. Unlike the vast majority of bookstores anymore, they provide ample seating for people to sample potential purchases. I like a trip to the bookstore to be an experience I can enjoy. I read for fun so I like to pick a bunch of books that sound interesting, read 10 pages or so to make sure I like the writing style, then purchase. It’s pretty clear the owners of this store feel the same. There are little chairs and couches tucked away all over the place. The prices are great, the place is very cute if you’re into quirky old-​school shops. Can easily spend a couple of hours here perusing the books. The last time I was here I spent about an hour stretched out on a chaise upstairs with some books and one of their cats.

This is by far my favorite bookstore. The prices are great, they really cake about their books and their customers, and they have two cats that roam around. You can pet them, play with them, and pick them up — all while reading a book.
I once looked for a Stephen King book that they didn’t carry and they asked me for my number so they could call me once they have it. Sure enough, two days later, they called me and I got to buy my copy.
They have great deals out in the front. All books on that cart are a dollar but they aren’t crap books. I bought a golden rimmed thick hard copy of Great American Poems that now sits on my shelf. Very pretty to look at and a great read.
Come and check it out. You won’t regret it.

The managers of this establishment came across as homophobic, and fundamentals. They also seem to take advantage of others. I’ve found many LGBT, Islam, and Pagan books that have been marked up to a ridiculous rate. Books that are being sold online for $ 14, can be found at this book store for over $ 50. The shop managers say it is because they have done research and the going rate is marked. Even if they do research, they do not mark the book at the going rate, they raise the price to a point where no one will want to buy the book, or if someone does purchase the book the person is being robbed by this store.
If you are LGBT make sure you don’t let the attendant or manager know, they are not only un-​supportive of the LGBT community, but they actively work against it by throwing out flyers that promote LGBT book clubs and events. A stack of flyer was left at this store regarding an LGBT book club, the manager said the flyers would be available for their patrons, but when we returned later in the day the stack of flyers was in the trash.
I frequented this bookstore, until I tried to purchase a book about Palestinian history. It was marked to $ 70, but when I did research online this same book, when sold new, was only $ 15.
It would seem that which does not align with their circle of beliefs is thrown away or sold at a rate that no one will want to spend.

This book store is so eclectic and valuable for the neighborhood/​San Diego at large. I can always find the philosophy text I’m looking for, and though their poetry section is small, they pack in the right authors. I’ve had many chats with the manager, owner, and employees and everyone is very respectful and helpful. The cats that live here are sweet.

I am so glad I found this little piece of book heaven. It is the best used bookstore I have found in the San Diego region. I was overwhelmed by the large and diverse selection they offer. I will definitely be a frequent visitor!

Needed a copy of the Diary of Anne Frank, done. Even had a choice of editions! They are keeping books in our hands for not much money. If you tire of your Windle, come here and enjoy a multi-​sensory experience: book pages!

I am very pleased with the selection and amazing variety that this two story masterpiece of a book store. The cats are friendly and the prices are reasonable. I plan on going back tomorrow!

The selection of books are amazing, the people are amazing, the cats are amazing, the store is amazing. How many times can I say amazing?
This bookstore may not have all the top selling books on the new market, but it has some of the best oldies but goodies.
The prices are also really great, got a giant 850-​page cookbook originally priced at $ 14 and a Michael Connelly book originally priced at $ 8 all for $ 11.
If the price and great range of books don’t reel you in, you have got to love the environment. The bookstore is in what seems like a home, but instead of regular furniture and décor, you’ve got bookshelves lining the walls, beautiful chairs and sofas, and two friendly cute cats to keep you company.
The staff was easy to approach and they suggested that I start from the top floor down to the bottom (I had no idea there was a second floor when I walked in!)

EVERY single book I have searched for, they never have… This place is just not for me.

I love Adams Ave Book Store! It’s huge, first of all. It goes back pretty far, with a wonderful collection of children’s books in the back and much more upstairs. They have a great collection of literature. Since I majored in lit I was able to find some books I needed for the semester.
I’m a big advocate of getting books as gifts. You can find both new and used here, which makes this a great place to find unique gifts. I have many friends who really appreciate cool, old books! One Christmas I mostly shopped here.
Look for the cats!

What an amazing store! It is a breath of fresh air to get away from technology and step into a place filled with books and a few kitties… I spent the best afternoon in this beautiful, cozy bookstore admiring my favorite authors with my family! Family, stories and cats… Can’t get much better than that for me!

What a cool place. I could spend all day in there. The place is not big but their selection is. I lose track of time when I get in a place like this. It reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where the guy doesn’t want to do anything but read. He goes into a bank vault to read and while he’s in there a nuclear bomb kills everyone but him so now he can just do nothing but read. When he finds his glasses that he cant read or see without in the ruins, their broken. Anyway, they have some great stuff.

Huge selection! Sweet kittens! Totally good prices! Found the sci fi authors I was looking for and boyfriend found several Dansk dictionaries!

I love a sweet bookstore like this, it’s organized, comfortable and quiet. I’ll absolutely be back here to pick up some more old books.

With technology taking over our lives, don’t you miss the smell of authentic, old school books? I mean, an iPhone or iPad doesn’t smell wonderful like an old book does! If this is true for you, as it is for me, you MUST wander down to Adam’s Ave to check out the phenomenal bookstore!
Here, you can get lost in the shelves and shelves of books or perhaps the various sections between the two floors of books!
The books are overall in great condition and organized by categories. What I love about this place is there isn’t a computer to look up books (at least for the customers) and it allows you to wander about and sift through the books at your leisure to find the perfect fit.
What book store would be complete without a couple of cats? As you peruse the shelves, day hi to the feline friends as well.

This bookstore is so unique, and has a very welcoming vibe. I go up here at least a few times every couple of weeks, and I’m always walking out with 2 or more books.
My interests are science, psychology and philosophy. Whenever I go to those respective sections in this store, I’m always finding, rare, gems. For instance a book by Sir Charles Sherrington, who is credited as one of the founders of neurophysiology. What I mean is that his book isn’t exactly a hot bestseller or very common to find.
The other thing I really like, is that some of the rare books are marked at a very high price, but, the owners make sure that you also find a little postie note detailing the price it goes for on the internet. To me, that’s really impressive, you actually find a reason behind their pricing of the book. I like honesty, and that’s pretty honest.

It makes me so incredibly happy to see this quaint bookstore with doors wide open and a happy customer base! With the invention of so many digital devices and apps that disregard the old-​fashioned enjoyment of turning a page of paper to find out what’s next, it pleases me to have such a place with passionate owners and library kitties to boot.
If you’re in the mood for a beach novel or a first edition, signed Ray Bradbury classic, find yourself lucky to have Adams Ave as the most interesting shopping trip you will take this month.

Great book store and the service was amazing!
They have a huge selection of used books… I found so many books to buy and some ones I didn’t know I wanted to buy!
Parking can be a challenge, but the side streets usually have some offerings of spaces. They have two cats that greet you when you walk in the door… the prices are great and the place is so organized… which makes it easy to find what you are looking for (and more!)
I will definitely be back when I have more time to peruse the stacks!
