Best mechanic we have ever met! This place offers reasonable price for professional service. Arne is a super nice guy and very trustworthy.
Our family has an old Toyota Sienna, and it broke down in the middle of freeway. We took it to the Toyota dealershop at Kearny Mesa, and they said there was an issue with the spark plug. If they need to replace the spark plug, the estimate was $ 1000. They said it could go up to $ 5000 if the damage is bigger. Too expensive for an old car, and we were not happy with their attitude.
So, I found A&D autowerks on Unilocal with all 5 star reviews. Now I understand why all the customers left excellent reviews on this shop.
Arne understood our situation and tried his best to save our money on this van. He did basic repair for just $ 170!!! He explained everything thoroughly that he did only the minimum work for us to save the repair cost. He warned us we might experience other issues in near future. Like he said, we had to take the car back to the shop after a week with other issue. He was able to fix the car perfectly, and we brought our car back home. He did not even charge us that much for the labor.
Our family truly appreciate their professional work and friendly service. So glad that we finally found a mechanic we can trust. We will be back again and again! Thank you Arne :)

Being a Volvo owner and having been only to San Diego Volvo in Kearny Mesa where I have only ever received sub standard care, I was blown away by the prompt and courteous service I received from Arne. I had my daughters Volvo XC90 repaired here a couple of months ago. A&D was recommended by a friend who had had work done on his Volvo in the past. The flame trap had clogged up and blew oil out of the dipstick tube. Arne made the repair in a fast professional manner and the price was fair. I would not hesitate to recommend A&D to anyone who wants quality work done for a fair price!

My latest visit to A&D Autoworks was to pick up my husband’s Toyota Tundra. The morning before I watched as the tow truck driver had to remove the tire to drag the Tundra onto a flatbed tow-​truck. Things were looking bleak… the steering knuckle bolts had sheared off, leaving the wheels pointing in different directions. We called Arne and Dave to make sure we could have the truck towed to the shop and they got us in and had our truck ready the next day! They made a totally un-​driveable truck feel brand new.
We have been bringing all of our vehicles here as soon as we found A & D Autowerks. Every time we take one of our cars here we are so impressed with the turn around time, communication, quality of work, and fair prices.

I have a Nissan Murano that needed some work. I had taken it to Nissan for diagnostics and they wanted me to replace all kinds of things and my bill was going to be very expensive so I just took it to A & D and asked Earnie to just replace the necessary part. (high pressure hose for steering wheel). They did it for a very fair price and my car is no longer making noises. Thank you.

A&D auto is amazing. They’re super knowledgable and helpful. They’re also friendly to military. I trust them with any kind of car from my Volkswagen to my wife’s Hyundai.

I cant recommend these guys enough. IF you are looking through Unilocal trying to find a mechanic, these are your guys. Arnie helped save me over $ 900! My Volvo 960 failed smog and I first took it to a mechanic in North Park who told me I need to replace about $ 900 in parts and then after that he will check the catalytic converter. It seemed a little fishy so I called Mike from Wolfs automotive, another very reputable mechanic who works on volvos. He wasn’t able to get to my car for a few weeks so he suggested Arnie at A and D. You know when a reputable mechanic suggests another mechanic and stakes his reputation on him the other mechanic must be good. Arnie is extremely honest and took a lot of time to diagnose the problems (he didn’t even charge me the hour he spent looking at the car, once I decided to get the work done there!). He found the catalytic converter was the problem, and all the other parts the other mechanic told me needed to be replaced were in perfect condition. I was able to pass smog after that no problem. Thanks again Arnie, your the man!

These guys are so great! I brought in my 97′ 4Runner to have the alternator changed and they got me in and out on a Saturday, very last minute. Great service and a very good price too!

Arne was our mechanic that looked after our Volvo when we used to go to San Diego Volvo for service. Arne was THE ONLY reason why we took our car to a dealership for service. He has helped us get over 190K miles on our Volvo (as of 1÷1÷2016)… with his help I think achieving 300K miles is likely!
Its great news that Arne & Dave are on there own. Taking our car to them is a no-brainer…they are honest, affordable and master mechanics. Unless you are having some sort of warranty work done at a dealership, it doesn’t make sense to take your car anywhere but here.

Arne and David have a quality business… They do great work and are really reasonable! I have no fear of being taken advantage of there! AAA+

The fact that I can actually trust an Autoshop already has my heart. I have a 99 Lexus gs300 and it’s been having a little difficulties here and here since it is really old.
My car finally broke down on me. Days later my stepdad took it to the shop here so I had to come and pick it up. I honestly did not understand what they fixed lol, but Arne explained to me as much as he could and so did my stepdad. Yay! My car is fixed. But 2 weeks later no, my car begins to shake again):
In the two weeks I’ve been calling the shop and asking if I could come in and have them look at my car for my trip to Vegas. It has 230k miles! (crazy I know) David and Arne were always so sweet on the phone. Even though I planned to come I had to because my car needed to get checked up again. They do have a warranty to fix your car again if it relates to what was wrong before. Turns out it wasn’t the same problem. And yes I was really upset the fact that I had to come back with my car having problems again and paying money AGAIN. Arne called me throughout the day on updates about my car which I really did appreciate. He changed a few things and insisted on going on with another and asked for my permission. Very hesitant but I went ahead with it. I just don’t want to keep putting money into my old car if it’s just gonna break down again. I picked up my car the same day and talked to Arne and continued on with asking if my car would make it to Vegas. My car has ALOT of miles but he said that he would. I wasn’t sure since it is such a long drive… And my car just got fixed and so old. I kept saying Arne are you sure !!! And he kept saying yes! He actually would !!!
Well guess what? I ended up taking Arne’s risky trusty advice and drove it to Vegas and back and my car is still in good shape!!! Wow My car is a trooper. I’m glad I found a shop that I can trust my car with and build a relationship with the people who work there. I will be taking my car & future car (s) here for the rest of my life.

If I could give these guys 10 STARS I would!!! Very, very honest and amazing work (not to mention very cheap pricing)!

Dave helped me with my 2006 IS250. The shop is on the east side of Convoy, so if there’s a wait for a job, there’s plenty of places to go for food. Dave is very knowledgeable with cars and he explained everything he would be doing so there’d be no surprises. You can tell he is a very passionate auto mechanic. He will do the best he can to help with your car, but if there’s something he cannot do, he will refer you to another reputable place. The customer service is superb, he stayed later (because my oil filter was being stubborn) to make sure the job was done. I found a new doctor for my old ride =)

Highly recommended! I was referred to A&D by another very well rated shop in the area. I’ve got to say, I can be quite skeptical of what mechanics tell me is wrong with my car and wonder how much the price just jumped because I’m a woman. I did not feel this way at all here. There was a problem with my turbo engine and Arne kept me very informed as he worked with it, gave me a very reasonable estimate to replace a broken part, and was able to show me the old part and explain to me where it had failed at (broken seal).
I will definitely be back to A&D in the future! Great, honest service. Thanks Arne! l
Update August 2015.
A&D was my first phone call when a brake pad warning light came on. I was able to get the pads replaced and an oil change again with excellent service and a fair price. I highly recommend A&D!
