Established in 1983.

Founded in 1983 by Larry Flick, this full-​service flooring retailer offers a wide selection of carpets, hardwoods, rugs, laminates, vinyl, natural stones and tile. The company provides floor installations by skilled, licensed flooring professionals. A favorite company slogan is: «If it goes on your floor, it’s in our store!»

We value our customers’ trust and will provide the highest level of service, respect, product knowledge, and fashion advice to give our customers the right product at the right price.

We do whatever is necessary to achieve these goals. «We’re dedicated 100% to customer service,» Larry says.” The only way to get complete customer satisfaction is to have highly trained and professional flooring salespeople, installers, operations staff and warehouse people.

Larry Flick is the Founder and CEO of The Floor Store. The Floor Store was founded with a single location in April of 1983. Since then, The Floor Store has grown beyond the original store in Richmond, CA to include seven separate locations. Larry oversees the operations of all eight, spread throughout the San Francisco Bay area. The Floor Store showrooms offer customers the ability to browse an enormous selection of carpeting and area rugs; hardwood, vinyl and laminate flooring; natural stone and tile; and every major style of Green flooring, including bamboo and cork.

More than a year ago, we decided to replace our whole house wall to wall carpet with hardwood floors. We would have preferred sand-​in place hardwood, but could not accommodate this due to several factors. We did a bunch of research, and then just as we were beginning to get serious, the Floor Store came to San Carlos! We went in shortly after they opened and met Jamie, who was just helping out the owner, but had history in the floor business and really knew is stuff. He helped us through the first half of the process (selecting and ordering flooring product) with personalized, down to earth service. When Jamie told us he would make sure we got their best installer, he wasn’t kidding-​we loved John, who installed our floors. He did an amazing job-we’re a few months out and have had zero issues so far. Score for the Floor Store!

I’m very happy with my experience, from start to finish! I came to the Floor Store after a negative experience with another local supplier and the difference was night and day.
My salesperson helped me select my materials, explained how long it would be until I received my delivery (which turned out to be accurate), and were responsive throughout the entire process. There were no hidden charges for anything, and now I have a beautiful, brand new hardwood floor in my home. I couldn’t be happier!

I really appreciated all of Laurie’s help in picking and ordering materials. I want to applaud the efforts and fine workmanship of Donny, of Millenium Tile, as he was the tiler who was subbed out by the Floor store to install our beautiful new flooring and baseboards. He was extremely professional and definitely communicated his desire to please us, the customer. As it happened, he was also the sub-​contractor to reface our kitchen through another company. The kitchen tile backsplash and mosaic is stunning. Thank you Floor Store for hiring such a fine craftsman!

Unfortunately I would not recommend going to the Floor Store. The store has profound organizational health issues. I initially worked with Bret, who was very helpful. Ordered product and scheduled installation of LVP and carpet. The installers came did their job, but did a sloppy job on the finishes. Apparently my product finishes were back ordered so the initial installer tried to do a «custom» job. That custom job looks really bad in certain places and I have been trying to get it fixed for the past month. Since then I’ve received what seems like hollow promises like, «the material is on the way or it’s here now and I’m sending out my best installer» and then people show up look at the job and then they leave and never call me back. Seriously I called their expert quality control installer five times and he never called me back. Overall the past four weeks have been frustrating and there has been a serious lack in communication between the Floor Store and myself. Mostly on them, I try to be courteous and nice when I talk with them.
I wish I would have paid attention to the Unilocal reviews before, it seems like to get the job done right and on schedule you need to post a negative review here and then CEO L. Flick will call you and take care of it. Too bad it can’t get taken care of the first time, especially given the $ amount that it costs to install new floors.

I started my adventure at the Dublin store looking for linoleum. A nice lady, Rachelle, helped us out. She was attentive and listened to our needs. We were in the middle of a kitchen reno. She didn’t mind the kids and help us find the perfect material to put in our new kitchen.
A few months later we needed some carpet. I visited a few stores but was unsuccessful finding any carpet to fit our needs. I thought «Hey why not the Floor Store again!» I ended up at the San Carlos store. Brett was very helpful. I found the material that would match our current décor and would stand up to the punishment of family life that wouldn’t break the bank.
We were able to coordinate pickup and install on a very tight timeline and it all worked out perfect.
My wife is happy so I am happy. Thanks again Floor Store!

I was recently looking to install new hardwood flooring in my living and dining room, so I went over to the Floor Store in San Carlos, CA. Sam worked with me to find exactly what I was looking for. He was very friendly and patient while I looked through their HUGE variety of choices in their outstanding show room. He was very knowledgeable as well and helped me find EXACTLY what I wanted! The installation process was a breeze and my new flooring looks great. If you are looking to get new floors installed, the Floor Store is the place to go! Highly recommended.

The first time we used The Floor Store for some stone — Bret was super helpful and all went well.
The second time I returned to purchase carpet — I was referred to Kathy and the next time — Yvette. I had all the dimensions and they said they would call me and give a «labor day discount.» Weeks have gone by. Never heard back — No discount. I went in today — Bret was on the phone — said he would help me in a minute. He hung up — and then called someone else and continued to ignore me as did everyone else. I took a photo of the material I need and will get it from another vendor. Very disappointing after three visits to have accomplished NOTHING.

We recently had hardwood floors installed by The Floor Store in San Carlos. We were impressed with the selection and the friendly staff. We probably visited the store a half a dozen times taking samples home before finally making our decision. Their workers did a great job with the installation and were very clean. We worked directly with Brett, who was very knowledgeable with his products. My wife and I are very pleased with the results. Our home looks great.

Buying carpet for our home from the Floor Store San Carlos has been one of the worst decisions we have ever made. The staff is disorganized, but my husband wanted to use a new local business, so we went ahead and ordered carpet for our home. Every step of the process has been awful, from lost orders, misplaced documentation, the manager promising improvements in service, with the outcome being that the installation looks bad, and the staff is not returning calls or emails.
I have NEVER written a bad review of any business, but I do not want anyone else going through the disappointment and expense of working with this business.

We recently had a mini emergency in our home that required us to move out, remove our carpet, due repairs and install hardwood floors very quickly. We had hardwood floors in our home throught other than then our bedrooms which was purchased over 7 years ago. Jamie and his team moved swiftly and found our match of hardwood within a half hour after measuring our home and had it fully installed within the week.
So grateful! John the installer was incredibly professional, clean and organized. He worked efficently and didn’t miss any details. Their customer service is the best and we will certainly be back for counter tops and anything we might need. Highly recommend, you will not be dissapointed! My husband and I recently purchased a home and have been entirely overwhelmed with searching for tile for our bathroom and kitchen. Luckily, we found Bret Lowder at the San Carlos Floor store. Bret is very knowledgeable and made himself available to us through all of our indecisive moments of searching for the perfect tile. Lets face it, purchasing flooring isn’t always an easy process and finding the right installer isn’t something I or my husband were well versed in doing. I’m glad everyone else had a great experience and I wish I’d had the opportunity to see how good they are, but here is my experience…
My wife and I visited the store on Saturday, June 13th in the late morning. We spent about an hour looking at samples and getting great input from Laurie. We settled on a few samples to take home, scheduled a measuring appointment, and headed home. I returned later that day and provided a floor plan of our home and some basic dimensions so Laurie could start working on the project.
On Tuesday, June 16th, as scheduled, someone came by the house to measure. We were told we’d hear back with a quote soon.
On Sunday, July 5th, I returned to the store to see what had happened… we hadn’t heard a thing. I was told they had not received the information back from the person who measured and they would get right on it and we’d hear Monday or Tuesday.
That Monday or Tuesday was a week ago and nothing.
Maybe this review will get their attention and help them in the future.

Was flooring shopping thinking I would look into the floor store for ideas then shop the home depot, Lowes stores for better pricing, Well I must say I learned a whole lot about flooring in my brief visit. The presentation of the store was amazing. The knowledge of the staff was quite eye opening. Brett talk to me as an adult and imparted his vast knowledge of an enormous array of product without as much as a tinge of condescention. The personal touch was refreshing. I now have flooring in my beautiful home that not only has the wow factor but i was given the gift of history to share with my guests, sorry home depot & Lowes but I have been converted thanks to Brett and the floor store.

Jamie really knows a lot about all of the different types of floors. He was so helpful and spent a lot of time with me and my husband trying to figure out what was best for our taste. There is a great selection and the prices are very good. A lot of larger samples that really show how the grain looks like in larger areas too.
My husband went back a few days later and Jamie is still such a huge help. Still in the beginning phase of our project, but definitely know this is the store that can help.

My wife and I were looking to install hardwood in our home before we were to place it on the real estate market. We found the that the floor store in San Carlos had the best selection and value of flooring items, but ultimately their customer service is what earned our loyalty.
Jamie and John (Twin brothers) were two of the best employees we’ve had the pleasure of working with. They both spent many hours helping us decide what worked best for getting our house ready for sale. John completed a extensive inspection of our home and after listening to his recommendations, we chose the cheaper route and installed carpet. Neither of the two were interested in up-​selling us, but were more concerned with what would work best for our given situation.
We will visit John and Jamie again when it’s time to install hardwood in our new home. We highly recommend them and the Floor Store to anyone considering changing their floors. These guys are true professionals and even better people.

My husband and I are getting ready to do a complete master bedroom and bathroom remodel. We stopped into The Floor Store in San Carlos to get ideas for flooring, shower, tiles, you name it. Bret greeted us warmly and took a great deal of time to educate us on everything from porcelain, vinyl and natural wood flooring, to grout and glass shower tiles. He is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and experienced. We were also assisted by Jamie who was very helpful and polite. This San Carlos location is one of eight Floor Stores in the Bay Area. Not only does it carry a HUGE selection of flooring, carpeting, tiles and wall installation ideas, it also has wonderful samples of these products on display, built right into the floor and walls. The carpet selection is huge, along with the tile display. The showroom is bright, clean, and well appointed. We had fun just looking at everything.
The Floor Store in San Carlos is perfect for one stop shopping. The huge modern showroom (once a bowling alley) carries a vast selection of all the elements you are looking for: all types of carpet, real hardwood flooring, faux wood, porcelain and ceramic flooring, shower tiles, lovely glass tiles… with more arriving daily. They have it all. We look forward to working with Bret and are so glad we stopped in today! Five stars and highly recommended.
