I took over the general dentistry practice of Armand Johnson and moved to our current location in1980. In an effort to offer the best care possible to our patients and to reduce exposure to radiation we have recently added digital radiography to our practice.

I am a UCLA grad and received my dental degree from UCSF. I have 2 beautiful children and I will be celebrating my35th wedding anniversary this year. I am an active triathlete and I love most all sports especially skiing. I am an active member of the san mateo county dental society, the California dental association and the American dental association.

I’ve been going to Dr Powers for 4+ years now and am very happy. I take my kids there, too. The practice is not flashy or pretentious but functional and has a likable old school feel. Staff are friendly, hygienists are thorough. Dr Powers is knowledgeable, gentle, personable and does not have a hidden agenda other than making sure your teeth are healthy. It is hard to get the first appointment but Tricia will work with you to find an opening.

Called the office yesterday looking to become a new client, immediately upon answering the phone the receptionist was laughing and put me right on hold. I decided to wait because thinking no big deal waiting on hold. UH WRONG… I sat on hold for literally 10 minutes! I decided not worth it for the long hold.
Sucks, because according to the reviews I was looking forward to being a client here.

We recently moved to San Carlos and needed to find a dentist. We found him via our network and Unilocal reviews. Overall we are extremely happy with Dr Powers and his team, they do a great job and take all of the pain of insurance claims away from you. Only criticism, It would be nice to see a little more modern equipment but I am sure it’s all up to scratch.

Dr. Powers really is the best. I have had allot of my dentist in my life but after finding Dr. Powers I have stayed with him. His work is great, very honest and such a nice cool guy. Would highly recommend him to nay one looking for a great dentist.

i’ve been a patient of Dr. Powers for over 10 years. Despite moving around during those 10 years, I drove to San Carlos to see him. both hygenists are very detailed and friendly. They want to make sure you have clean teeth. Both hygenists have explained in detail how I should be flossing and cleaning my teeth. Sounds kinda ridiculous, but it helped me alot. I’ve never been overcharged and their receptionist has helped me out on a few insurance issues when I switched plans.
They are honest, great people who want to make sure you have beautiful teeth.

Since Dr. John Powers is a network provider under my insurance I decided to visit his clinic, and I was not wrong with my decision, it turns out that he is one of a kind dentist, definitely after the welfare of his patients and not with the money, he really did a good job with my teeth crowning and they also provide some payment plans that I would say differentiates them from other dental clinics. His staff are nice & very accomodating. Visit his clinic and you will never go wrong. Actually I just signed-​up to Unilocal so I could write a review for him.

Dr Powers and his staff are great. They will work with you if you have any weird insurance issues.

They make honest recommendations (flouride toothpaste) without trying to sell you on products or services you don’t need.

In terms of comfort, well, having a cavity filled is never fun. But Dr Powers and the hygenist (sp?) are both gentle and friendly and get the job done without too much discomfort. Dr Powers wants to make sure you understand things, even drawing me a picture of what my wisdom teeth looked like (they’re at a funny angle).

Appointments can fill up fast, but if you call and you’re in pain they will fit you in fast.

The office is like a renovated house of sorts, and has a very unpretentious feel to it. Street parking, but it’s never been a problem.
