Gary A. Thodas, DDS

Dr Thodas is awesome. Going to the dentist is never fun but with Dr Thodas it gets a lot easier. Not only is he extremely skilled at what he does, he has a great sense of humor and a disarming demeanor. And Patty is great too. She is great with scheduling and also coordinating with other providers (Dental surgeons). She recently caught an error that a dental surgeon’s office made that saved me $ 600. Talk about above and beyond !

Amazing Dentist! He takes great care in his craft. Always a fun visit when going to see Team Thodas. Alice, Patty, & Jaime are always pleasant & inviting. The hygienists are top notch especially Georgia. These guys are a must see if your looking for an awesome dentist. Thanks for keeping my teeth and gums healthy!

Dr. Thodas is the best dentist I have ever had and I have really spent some time on my teeth. I came to him after many years without a dentist. He fixed all of the miserable silver fillings I had and gave me root canals without a moment of pain and lots of humor, Alice is a saint. Since then, I have been going to see him twice a year and thanks to Patty at the desk, I never miss an appointment and she accomodates my wacky schedule. Everyone is amazingly gentle.

Honest, kind, and an artist. This was the best dental experience I have ever had! Everyone was personable and nice, but the coup de grace was the Michael Angelo of a dentist. I chipped my front tooth and called with desperation in my voice. The receptionist gave me an appointment the next day! She was so kind and funny too:) I can’t even explain how wonderful the staff was, including Dr. Thodas! His work on my front tooth made me want to knock out my other tooth so it can look as good as the one he fixed. He is a master sculptor! I really could go on for another paragraph or so about how AWESOME this dentist is, but I will leave it at you would be remiss if you passed up this gem of a DDS.

Gary’s dad used to work on my teeth back in 1978 and have been with his family since they had their office on the corner of 3^rd & Jamestown in the Bayview District in SF. Why would I go anywhere else? Simply the best!

Gary is the best. My family has been a patient of him and his father for over 50 years. His staff is just excellent. I couldn’t recommend him more highly!

It started over 7 years ago think — I can’t remember.
What I do remember is I had not been to the dentist in 2 years. I was scared and really just embarrassed that it had been so long. What was the Dr going to think! So I asked friends for referrals. After asking several people I landed on Dr. Thodas! I am so happy I did.
The dental Hygienist (Lily) was and is understanding, patient and very good. I am always comfortable, relaxed and never in any pain. She is a sweet lady who remembers the littlest of details! I also appreciate how quickly the time passes when I am there. She makes going to the dentist enjoyable… because I look forward to chatting with her.
Of course, there are times I get to see the dentist. After x-​rays, a cavity (or two) and simply when he pops in to say hello! A gentle, loving man with a great sense of humor. He is a perfectionist and will not let you walk around with out having the perfect smile. I had a chip in my front tooth — barely noticeable, and he filed it down and made it look wonderful! Extra charge NOPE! Just a smile and a «that looks so much better» comment.
Lastly, the office has always been accommodating and friendly. Ive always been reminded about my appointments with a very friendly call. And if and when i have had to reschedule etc. Patti has always made it work!
I can not say enough about the wonderful people at the dentist office. Dr. Thodas and his team are truly one of a kind. I actually look forward to going every six months! He is and his staff are so amazing my brother, his wife, sister and her husband, my aunt and uncle all see him too!

Have been coming to this office for more than 2 years. Dr. Thodas and his team are great! Pleased with the results of dental work as well as dental hygienists, assistants and receptionist.

This review is long over due! I initially saw Dr. Thodas back in 2003. My previous dentist had done a horrible job with my fillings and crowns. He did nothing for the aesthetics of my dental. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty embarrassed when I laughed (I had metal fillings). In the course of a year, Dr. Gary transformed my dental work into something else. I am very pleased with the results and this time around I am happy to smile.
Him and his team are wonderful and very informative. They really thrive on patient education and good ethics. I would highly recommend Dr. Thodas to anyone who is looking for a new dentist. I was reading some of the reviews below, and I do not understand how someone would want to be offered any less on material quality. hmmm? Not my cup of tea. I am always able to get appointments, Patty does magic when it comes to scheduling.

Gary and his office staff are very pleasant. Perhaps too pleasant. I was a patient for 3 – 4 years. During that time I had quite a lot of work done. Unfortunately, that included the following blunders:
— expensive porcelain crowns were placed on my back teeth without offering the less expensive options
— I developed an abscess after an extraction, and had to be referred out for emergency oral surgery the next day (by a DMD in SF)
— a bit of my tongue was cut out by the drill (under Novocain) and I was not told by the Dr. or staff that it had happened. (When the bleeding did not stop after I got home I looked in there and saw the source was not my teeth, but the chunk of my tongue that was gone.) not even an apology was offered when I called to find out what happened!
There’s more (billing practices!), but that’s enough. My experience with the Thodas office literally scarred me for life. If I were litigious I’d have sued for malpractice and I would have won. do. not. go. to. this. practice.

I have never had such a pleasant experience at a dentists office. Your comfort is his biggest concern! Everybody is friendly and charming and the atmosphere is very calming. I have recommended Dr. Thodas to many friends and will continue to do so.

Dr Thodas failed the first test: do no harm. His crown changed my bite for the worst. He’s a charming guy and the staff is really nice but a) they’re in it for the money — very expensive and always pushing me to buy things like teeth whitening stuff, b) he frequently cancels at the last minute thereby ruining my plans for the day, c) the aforementioned problem with the quality of his work

Dr Thodas and his staff are very professional, caring, and personable… and fast. Wow! If there were TEN stars, I’d give it. I had a broken tooth, and Patty squeezed me in the very moment I called, Alice and Dr Thodas took excellent care of me, they understood the insurance situation and explained it clearly … Folks, you have got to see this for yourselves! (Yes, I’m very happy, no I’m not sniffing gas!)

I’ll keep this short, as the previous post have covered this place pretty well… I’ve been going here for over a year now and couldn’t be happier! Not that going to the dentist is a great experience, but everyone here is always cheerful and friendly. Dr Thodas knows teeth and I’ve never had a dentist I trusted more. On top of that, the office staff and hygienists are incredibly personable… I wish all dentists’ offices were like this one.

I’ve been going to Dr. Thodas for over 10 years now. My husband and his family have been going there much longer and he came highly recommended. I used to be very nervous going to the dentist, having had many bad experiences in the past. The first time I saw Dr. Thodas I wad relieved. He’s extremely nice, caring and reassuring. He is very experienced and knows what he’s doing and is ver patient explaining everything he is going to do.
The staff is amazing. All of the hygienists and dental assistants are very friendly and comforting as well.
Patty at the front desk is extremely friendly and a pleasure to deal with. She is very knowledgable and helpful. She follow through with everything and there are never any surprises. Best yet, around the holidys she makes an amazing apple cider, which is just a bonus.
I feel confident recommending Dr. Thodas’s office for all your dental needs.

Gary Thodas is the last dentist you will ever have. Not only is he extremely personable and lovable, he really knows his stuff and takes extra special care of all of his patients. The hygienists and staff are all very nice and you feel like you are walking into «your» dentist every time you come by. Highly recommended.

I was referred to Dr. Thodas because my dentist was having surgery. Now I have switched dentists and Dr. Thodas is my guy. Really nice dentist, the people at the front desk are so nice, I have to say the dentist is like the last place I want to be but I don’t get nervous at all at this place. I get really nervous with needles but he was really gentle and I couldn’t feel the needle at all. I’ve only been a couple times but I highly recommend this place, the dentist is usually a scary place but not at Dr. Thodas’ office.
