Eugene V Espiritu, DMD

This is the second time I had Dr. Espiritu for my primary dentist. My fault for returning to him. I did it because the location was convenient but all my experiences were negative.
They staff is unprofessional and rude, you never know who will treat you and the office has no privacy. Do not recommend him to anyone

I come here because they are open on the weekends this I like because of my work schedule they always call me to remind me it’s time to come in for my 6 and 12month check up! Staff is friendly too

My very first and second appointments went good. Everybody is friendly at front office. The back office staff is also friendly. Dr. Dharma Wong is the best. My extraction was flawless. Re cementing of the crown — piece of cake. So, my experience at this dental office has been without drama. Am due to come back again in a months time. Btw the place is clean. So this business is deserving of 5 stars.

I have been going here for 10 years. The staff, especially Rocky, are always nice. They aren’t pushy. The want to make sure you take care of you teeth and get them cleaned every 6 months. Dr Espiritu is great because he listens you and his staff. The staff know you and your needs. I always need a block and extra novacaine for any dental procedures. He complies to make sure I am comfortable. Thank you for being the best dentist and fora wonderful staff.

Whoever gave this guy a four star either works for him or based her opinion on what. two visits? I’ve been going here for the last six years.
The Front Staff:
Usually friendly, accommodating. The office is also open on Saturdays with extended weekday hours, convenient location next to Tanforan. The usual patient wait time is 30 – 45 minutes from your actual appointment. I caught the staff giving me wrong dental advice once. Do not rely on these people. Also they don’t do root canals here. They send you off to another specialist with a referral, which means inconvenience and time lost going back and forth for you.
The Rest of the Staff:
The office manager is condescending. I went in for a cleaning, and instead of cleaning, the fresh out of dental school dentist assesses my situation. The office manager then calls me up in the little corner of his «office» and starts going through the estimate which I am totally not interested for the time being. I asked him if my persistent headache could be related to one of the tooth that needs treatment and he rolls his eyes and says whatever gave me that idea? Weirdo.
The Doctors:
Dr. Espiritu rarely sees patients. He lets his other dentists whom he hires (high turnover rate, be aware) treat patients. One time, I was surprised to hear from them that I need a mouth guard for grinding my teeth. I know for a fact that I don’t grind my teeth, I asked my husband about it to make sure I don’t.
I asked them the price for the guard and they quoted me $ 700! The other newbie doctors are ok to nice.
The Hygenist:
I think they let go of their full time hygenist and now contract a part-​timer to come in two weekdays per week. The last cleaning I had from them was poor– I have no particular reason to recommend even the hygenist.
The Money:
Like a lot of other dentists strapped for cash, this dental office also wants to rip off patients. They don’t like to waste time explaining your cost alternatives and they would like to make money off of you by selling other things.

I’ve been going every six mths for the past 8 years. They are nice enough, but the front desk is rather disorganized. It features none of the more modern technology/​equipment that you see in other dental offices. The hygienists are polite, but some of them are difficult to understand because they are ESL speakers and they spend their time speaking Tagalog with each other (even in the office). Be prepared to receive constant pressure to have cosmetic work done. I rarely see Dr. Espiritu, but when I do he IS gentle. Unfortunately, one time he insulted me for not having my existing fillings (which have no problems whatsoever) replaced with porcelain ones. When I said that (a) there was no medical need for it, and (b) the $ 100 per tooth cost was too pricey, he chastised me for not saving my money. My last visit was a headache. The «reminder» call told me that my appt. was 30 minutes later than originally scheduled, and then it turns out they didn’t have me scheduled for a visit with the dentist… just the cleaning! All I got was «sorry», don’t know what happened. I am in the process of looking for another DMD. There are definitely better practices out there.

Dr. Espiritu is the most gentle, patient, and thorough dentist I have ever had. His exams are first rate, as he takes great care to examine your teeth and x-​rays thoroughly. He then describes exactly what he sees and will weigh it with your own comments on what you are experiencing. I wish he could be my medical doctor, too! The desk staff do an excellent job of explaining insurance coverage and out-​of-​pocket costs.
I spend a little more time than I might like in the waiting area, the front desk seems overburdened sometimes, and the facilities are dark and drab – but I really feel like I get first-​rate care so I don’t mind. They are good where it matters. Dr. Espiritu also has an office in Redwood City that I’ve never visited.
