Really enjoyed this course. Coming from Houston, the elevation was a treat. The hole where you tee off overlooking the entire hole and into Fiesta Texas was worth it alone. The fairways are wide enough to be playful and there aren’t enough tricky holes that it feels gimmicky.

Nice course. A cut below the sister Palmer Course that sits next door but one I would be happy to play again if in the area. Played under a 4 hour pace and enjoyed all the amenities including the GPS in the cart and the frequent opportunities to eat and drink throughout the round. While similar to the Palmer Course(should be since they are adjacent) — Palmer course was in better condition tee to green and was more visually pleasing since it sits higher on the hills. The resort course does play next to Six Flags Fiesta which offered some interesting views as well but the Palmer course was a cut above for whatever its worth. One point of interest/annoyance… Opening hole is a 660+ yard par 5. It is significantly downhill with a prevailing downwind so I’m guessing it plays more like a 550 yard hole. While the hole itself is fun to play as you don’t often get to see/play holes that look like that — any avid golfer will tell you that it takes a couple of holes/swings to groove oneself into a round. That’s why a lot of golf architects start off courses with relatively modest length, easier holes to allow golfers to segue from the driving range into the round itself. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to start the round goading a player in to swinging out of his/her shoes. Nothing good comes of that. Starting the round with a lost ball or an OB doesn’t allow one to set a good tenor for the day. I’d consider swapping the 9s. But what do I know — I don’t play on tour or run a course.

i give this course a 4.5 out of 5, if you are rating golf courses, 5 is perfect and that should be reserved for Augusta, or Bethpage Black types. That being said, this course is VERYVERYNICE! Staff — very friendly and will do whatever they can to take care of you. Started to rain before our round and they made sure we had plenty of towels to stay dry. Cart girl always around. Starter gave some good suggestions on how to play the course and what to look out for. Course — Very cool layout, 600+ yard par 5 on opening hole. 150 ft elevated tee box to a par 4 in a quarry. This course is not a grip it and rip it style course, you have to think about your tee shots and setting yourself up for your approach. The greens were true and read pretty straighforward. Price — it aint cheap. is it worth full price? probably not, but its close. if you play in the evening, you can get a great rate that is an exceptional deal. Bonus — after your round, fill out a comment card and they will give you a free bag tag.

This is a really fun course. I’m the kind of 4-or-5-times-a-year golfer that enjoys the fresh air, cold beer and«exercise» that comes with a round of golf more than any real test of my skill(doesn’t take much). Most of the holes at La Cantera offer a challenge without being totally frustrating. The views are quite nice, and in some cases amazing. There’s one tee that’s about 150 yards above the fairway — you’re literally driving your ball off a cliff — and it provides a terrific view of Fiesta Texas. Really cool! A round in the winter was like $ 60-something(my very generous brother-in-law picked up everyones fee — he plays there monthly or more and has a membership bonus card of some kind). Beers are $ 5 — not too shabby. The cart that drives around carries hard liquor, too. In-season rates are more like $ 175 but I’d say if you’re an avid golfer and are used to paying that kind of scratch, La Cantera is worth checking out. We had a terrific time.

Great course. Fun to play. Excellent condition. Very challenging from the back tees but with 4 or 5 sets of tees you have plenty of options. Nothing tricky about the layout. It is designed for an enjoyable round of golf.

This is where the big boys play! For the modest fee of $ 55 in the dead of winter you too can walk in the footsteps of PGA legends such as Duffy Waldorf, Robert Gamez, and Douglas Bubbletrousers! Of course you will need to wear the sweater and Isotoner gloves your mother gave you for Christmas before you return them to The Shops of La Cantera. How convenient. There is no better place to play golf in San Antonio than here at La Cantera, period. The service is outstanding, the range is well stocked, the practice green and sand trap are well kept and the beverage girl is available every two or three holes. Here you will find everything there is to love about golf in South Texas. Wide open views of the Texas Hill Country. Tee boxes and finishing greens kept completely separate from one another. Elevated tees from cliffs overlooking the valley and theme park below. Canyons, creeks, lakes, soft fairways and lush perfectly manicured greens. Often I hear travelers remarking on whether or not the prices some local courses ask for a round are worth it. This one most certainly is. I would even pay the $ 110 it costs if I had to but fortunately I never have to play any time other than when the 2 for 1 special is going on.
