As a Southtown local, I’ve been to about every restaurant and bar in the area more times than I can count, but THEPIPECORNER is my go-to location. Whether I want to grab a bottle of wine with my girlfriend, smoke a cigar with my boys, or just drink a tall boy after a long day, this is the place to be! The outside patio is a nice change-of-pace with a beautiful view of Tower of the Americas. I usually ride my bike there and feel right at home when I walk in and see familiar faces. The owner is also very down-to-earth and is helpful with assisting in selecting the right wine or cigar or pairing of the two. One time I dropped in and there was an art show and free wine tasting going on, so the owner keeps it classy. I also hear rumors that a projector is in the midst for the occasional watching of sporting events. So whatever vice you have, THEPIPECORNER is the place to go… because after all it is a smoke shop just with a higher level of sophistication.

A new addition to Southtown. Love the wine selection! The shop also has a good variety of cigars. The courtyard is a great place to enjoy a bottle of wine and a cigar. The prices are very reasonable!

A really decent wine shop in Southtown is now open! This little place is upstairs from a little courtyard right next to Bar America. The shop has a small selection of fine cigars, and tobacco. They sell cigarettes, and will be selling pipe tobacco soon. They offer a selection of glassware, made in Austin, and other smoking accessories. They also offer beer– Lone Star Tall Boys and Stella. The beers are cheap, $ 2 ea. But the most impressive was their wine selection! They offer a wide variety of wines at a number of price points, usually on the cheap end, but going up to Dom Perignon. Some of the cheapest bottles go for as little as $ 11! They offer a nice courtyard downstairs in which you can enjoy your cigar or bowl of pipe tobacco, and have a glass of wine. We got a selection of their house blend of cigars. The owner offered to cut the cigars for us, which we accepted. We were horrified to see how the owner cut them, cutting the cigar about a quarter inch down the length of it, like it was attacked with a guillotine. He really needs to watch a YouTube video on how to properly cut a cigar. Cutting it so far down causes the cigar to come apart as it is smoked, and is a rookie mistake. Many of the bottles of wine are stored warm, but if you call ahead, you can ask him to put it on ice for you so it’s cold by the time you arrive. The owner was very friendly, and patiently answered all of our questions, and made us feel welcome. Overall, it was a good experience, and I know I’ll return!
