O’liva Restaurant is transforming the Plaza de Armas historic block by bringing it back to its fresh food roots of 140 years ago with fresh, local, farm-to-table cuisine and ingredients. Owner and chef, Chuck Hernandez, has partnered with the city and Salud de Paloma Olive Oil in order to offer delicious and healthy options downtown. They offer weekly specials, happy hour, brunch on Sundays, catering and space for private events. Additionally, O’liva offers a gourmet CSA of locally sourced produce and housemade goodies to locals and visitors alike.

Owner and chef, Chuck Hernandez, has been in the catering business for decades and has developed relationships with many local farmers, ranchers and other craftsmen. His mission is to support these companies while at the same time supporting San Antonio eating better, healthier food.

Business Owner
Chuck Hernandez is a renowned Chef, both private and commercial, based in South Texas. A San Antonio, Mercado O’liva, a monthly artisan market and gourmet CSA as well as the owner of the well-established Arugula, Spice & Wine Catering Company, which has been creating fresh, tasty, wholesome goodness for people and their events since the 80’s. Chef Hernandez offers an earthy modern approach and is passionate about the use of ancient and traditional ideas such as supporting local organic producers. This sustainable inclusion has helped build and elevate local artisans, canners, wild anglers, free-range ranchers and farmers. Chef Hernandez, also known as the Pesto King, published a pesto recipe book called Pesto Power in 2014. The book features dozens of his exceptional international pestos. In the non-profit sector, Chef Hernandez supports the local community through his non-profit organization, EatSmart San Antonio, which raises awareness about healthy, sustainable foods.
