Rolling Pig

Just tried the Havana Ham-​a-​jama. Amazing blend of different types of pork, French bread, Swiss cheese, and pickes. I recommend it.
This truck is under new management now. But since I never ate here under the old management, I have nothing to compare it to.

Three little piggies… they were with me. Yeah, I saw them. So wut???
I’ve been such a bad foodie… I’d seen the RP rollin’ around town several different times but my tummy kept leading me to other food trucks. Shame on me! During one evening at StrEAT, I finally tried them out. And there you have it. Three Little Piggies. And if THAT’S what the old kids’ story refers to, then you can call me the big bad freakin’ wolf!!! How can you go wrong with ham, wienerschnitzel, and bacon with cheese and a fried egg??? On a yummy ciabatta bun too? And yes, I know it screams heart attack but I figure if you’re gonna go out, then go out happy! And this is one of them happy ways to go, I kid you not!

They disrespect the pig at this truck. I had a simple Cuban sandwich and bacon-​sugar FF’s. The pork loin in the sandwich was very dry and tough. The Bacon-​Brown Sugar FF’s, elementary at best. Why do I say elementary, because these were fries we at in the cafeteria at elementary school. Low quality pre-​frozen shoestring FF’s with bacon crumbles and brown sugar sprinkled on top. It truly was bad. The concept of sugar and bacon and FF’s is a good one, just poorly executed.

During my most recent outing to strEAT food at the Revolution Room, I caught up with Rolling Pig. Tag-team’d the menu with Shawn G. and ordered Boudin Balls and the Schnitzel Sandwich. First, the good. These Boudin Balls were fan-​freakin-​tastic. Everything from the delish sausage and rice inside to the breading on the outside and spicy green sauce drizzled on top was on point. I was flying high on the flavor of these cajun pieces of heaven but I was quickly thrown back down when I had the Schnitzel Sandwich. Maybe it’s because I took off the tomato and lettuce or maybe it’s because the breading they used lacked flavor but it was just ok. Let’s just say the best part of the sandwich was the fresh ciabatta bread they used.
I hear that the Rolling Pig excels in their breakfast fare but as far as dinner goes, stick with the Boudin Balls for a guaranteed tasty bite.

I really enjoy this place. I love that they’re one of the few food trucks that are serving up breakfast. And although they’ve just committed to being at alamo street eats and bar, they still go out to the farmers market every week and offer their yummy breakfast.
I’ve also had lunches there and they are really nice about explaining the menu, and telling you their story. I really liked the pizole soup and the italiano. both were delicious. go check them out, but remember that their menus changes frequently, so you won’t be able to get the same things from them every time.

Give this place a loud OINK for honoring the pig!
I tried the Rolling Pig’s version of the BLT, In this version the B is for pork Belly. The pork belly was absolutely delicious and the nice crunchy contrast with the toasted bread just perfect. And the lettuce and tomato just brought it all together so nicely.
I look forward to sampling more pork delights. A very nice addition to the San Antonio food truck scene. Get your oink on.

This is by far the best food truck in town. Every dish I have had has been amazing!!! My husband loves the pulled pork sandwich and I am obsessed with the boudin balls! Their slaw is the bomb as well! I have never been disappointed and if you haven’t tried the Rolling Pig… you are missing out!

Today, I ordered the pork bulgogi from The Rolling Pig. It was a nice portion with rice and a side of what looked like a kimchi inspired coleslaw. At 6 bucks, I found it to be reasonable.
The coleslaw/​kimchi was ginger heavy, soupy and pretty bland. The rice was overcooked and mushy. The pork was very tender and cooked well. It had a strong taste of soy sauce and not a lot else happening.
A co worker got a shredded pork sandwich with serrano coleslaw. He was equally unimpressed. He said it wasn’t anything special and he could not taste serrano in the coleslaw. Neither one of us finished our lunches.
I’m bummed because I love pork and food trucks and the people were really nice! It seems like maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.

The Bacon Pancakes are excellent! Can’t wait to try the other selections.
